So I never touched a single drum of my life but I'm playing all expert songs that doesn't have long or constant drums rolls and kick pedal.

However, I would like to be able to do those damn songs such as Orange crush, Move along, The reapear near 60% of the song, Run to the hills... and Outside of course!

I can do drums rolls when they are alone, but when kick pedal get in, my brain screw up and I loose rythme of my drum roll.

Are there any tips that you can give me or way I can practice that? I'm tired to suck in these parts.

Don't forget "Outside" by the Tribe. That ******ed song is one big ass drum roll.

I'm having the same problem. I can nail just about any song on expert that doesn't have long drawn out drum rolls with random kicks thrown in.

Yea, I even do Blackened on expert with 93% god. I feel like a ****** when it comes to drum rolls + foot.

I've found with practice it gets easier. You really have to practice a lot.

I started practing run to the hills last night and it's frustrating. I don't think there is an easy answer.

Yeah, I'm sort of in the same boat. I've only had the game a couple weeks (Sunday before Christmas), so I'm still on Hard, but like you, have never touched drums prior to this (well, maybe a couple times, but not more than a few minutes).

I'm honestly not looking forward to Expert. I'm having some trouble already on Hard, but I'm not touching Expert until I get at least 5 stars (and about 95%+ accuracy) on Hard. On some of the tougher songs, I'm just practicing the heck out of them on Practice mode, changing up the speeds until I get the hang of it. I guess that's the only way to do it.

I do know that the more I play, the less fatigued I get from kicks, and I'm learning methods to reduce fatigue -- like keeping my foot down instead of up, not lifting my foot all the way up prior to kick, moving my foot up the pedal to give my foot more leverage (thus requiring less force to kick).

But none of this will help my rhythm. Only practicing will help that. I just hope I don't get frustrated on Expert (or the more difficult songs on Hard), because I love it once I 5-star a song that I once was lucky to get 80% on.

And this is why, in my mind, Rockband was easliy the game of the year...

Because there isn't another game which mimics real life so much... I'm not saying RB drums/guitar=RL... I'm saying that RB skill at instruments=RL... i.e. you have to practice and practice to get better, but the rewards for practicing are identical.

wanny: honestly, I'm not great at them either, but I can at least pass the songs you mention :). Do you have trouble with Ballroom Blitz?

The best tip I can give is to try and vocalize the sound. Think of it as der-der-der-der-DUM-der-der-DUM-der-der-der-der-DUM-der-der-DUM or whatever the pattern is. Have that sound actually playing in your head as you play the song.

The other thing is - on songs where the bass pattern is irregular, see especially Outside - try and learn when the bass comes with your right hand and when it comes with your left. Most people tend to 'sync' the pedal up to one hand, and when it has to be played along with the other hand, you a) miss the bass and b) screw up the roll as you try to speed up so the pedal falls with the hand you're expecting. This happens to me *all the time*. If you learn in advance when it's going to come on your 'other hand', you can reduce this problem somewhat. It's a big annoyance on Outside.

well aside from practicing, which is definitely the key :D i've noticed that if you memorize the rhythm of the song, then kindof focus on a particular section and let the rest flow, you'll be fine..

in these cases, focus on the red.. keep your mind locked on the red and make sure you have that rhythm down, and then just let your leg "flow" and execute the memorized pattern.. does that make any sense? lol.. i'm having trouble putting it into words..

the key word is rhythm.. you've gotta know the pattern.. you have to know when the kicks and snares come, and then if you can get into the rhythm you'll be fine.. it takes alot of time and practice, definitely don't be a stranger to the Practice mode.. slow it down to 70/80%.. do the kicks seperately, then do the hands seperately.. FEEL how the song goes and then just execute it

Man, you younger bucks must have a lot more patience and fortitude than I do!!! I've never played drums either, and have never played a music game like GH or anything til I picked up Rock Band for my sons.

I don't have a whole lot of time to play, but I'll be durned if I'm going straight to HARD, much less expert!!! I'd get so frustrated I'd probably throw the sticks throught the sheet rock wall and walk away forever!

I'm plenty satisfied to continuing on with my poor little Med. Tour for as long as it takes (hard to split the little gaming time I've got between RB and COD4), but by the end of my tour, I should be somewhat ready for hard.

Geez, at the rate I'm going, it'll be December before I finish with my HARD tour!

Keep playin' and practicing! This game definitely rocks.
