View Full Version : Why No Comments on how well the high fret buttons work?

I've listened to dozens E3 podcasts and read a ton of previews for Rock Band and NOT ONE person who has played the game commented on how well the upper fret buttons worked and whether it was easier to play difficult section using them since you don't have to strum.

Even to footage from the Microsoft press conference didn't show any of the Harmonix guys using them! (at least that I caught)

Can anyone who's demoed it comment on this feature or point me to someone who has written about it? For me, those extra 5-buttons makes me think playing songs will be twice as fun than using the Guitar Hero controller and makes the GH Les Paul seem very ho-hum.

I'm with you 100%. I was disappointed they didn't go into more detail on the new fret buttons, or actually use them [at E3].

I think they'll make the guitar portion of the game a much more refreshing enjoyable experience, and I want to learn more about when and how they work.

Yea, good point. I actually almost forgot about them. Weird.

I saw a video on Gamespot and they said you can play the whole song with them, without strumming, but using hammer-ons/pull-offs.

In real guitar you can play without strumming on the higher frets by tapping the string (if your feedback is good). That's the reason for those frets not requiring strumming, and I know that they are used in freeform, but a whole song? I find it not only really fake but hard to believe.

No they didn't The bottom frets are for solos only using just hammer ons and pull offs ,, what they said in the vid is you can use the top frets for the whole song if you wish.

This is also how I heard it and makes much more sense to me. I also could've sworn I'd seen a review where they talked about how awesome they were to use, but have no idea where that might have been...

Alex talked a little bit about it in the 40min Gamespot video. He was showing how you could even finger tap the buttons using two hands. But this wasn't during the game, it was when they were sitting down talking about all the peripherals.

Thanks, Yeah I saw that as well but I really was hoping someone got to try and actually play it that way to see how WELL it worked and whether it was fun.

As of now, Rock Band has never been publicly demo'd by anyone. Only people in the video game industry. So I think those people are only allowed to talk about certain things.

Yep, those are the guys I'm looking for. And the ones who snuck into E3. (Yes, I know people who were able to somehow work getting in, but unfortunately they didn't get to try Rock Band...)

i must have heard wrong, my bad. I thought he said it, because the gamespot guy asked about them, and HMX said you could play the whole song with them. I remember because he said you can play with one hand and taunt with the other.
