View Full Version : Finally, A Well Balanced List

Now I've seen a few great songs listed here, but seriously people, the most of you have such narrow views in terms of music and what would be fun to play. Guitar Hero already is heading into an "all metal" landscape and that my friends is just a waste. There's nothing fun about playing the same genre ad nauseum. It's gets old really fast. Remember this isn't Guitar Hero. The point of this game is to have fun playing together. Some songs may not have the three thousand note count that everyone seems to be wanting, but the feeling of jamming can carry itself across all genres of music. So here's a few I've come up with. I'm already well aware most of you here won't have any idea who half these bands are, but it would be wise to give them a listen before your blinders say otherwise. I'm not listing any Beatles, Zeppelin, Floyd, etc because those are just givens.
In no particular order:
Robert Cray - Playin' In The Dirt
One word: Smooth
Echo and the Bunnymen - A Show of Strength
Pete de Freitas is the ****.
Maximo Park - Apply Some Pressure
My friends and I are dying for this one.
REM - Feeling Gravity's Pull
Long before Michael Stipe was a PC windbag
The Band - The Weight
If you can't get behind this song, then you're dead inside.
Cream - White Room
Enough said.
Devo - Gut Feeling
Whip this losers.
Subhumans - Subvert City
Punk from across the pond.
Ben Harper - Faded
Lenny who?
fIREHOSE - Brave Captain
Long live the Minutemen
Gang of Four - Not Great Men
Post punk at its funkiest.
The Smiths - Barbarism Begins at Home
Just listen to Johnny Marr kill it. Yep that's one guy.
Dire Straits - Sultans of Swing
How has this been overlooked for so long?
Joe Walsh - Walk Away
God bless the James Gang
Steve Miller - Jet Airliner
Please see Dire Straits
Yes - Long Distance Runaround
C'mon people, how can you not?
ZZ Top - Tush
Oh, those crazy kids with their beards.
Neil Young - Old Man
*tear*
Brian Setzer - Hell Bent
As loud as possible
Minor Threat - Cashing In
Fitting don't you think?
Flogging Molly - Salty Dog
Drinks for everyone!
Chixdiggit - 2000 Flushes
Skate or Die
The Hives - Inspection Wise
Sweden represent!
Ok, I better stop here. I could go on and on. I mean what about B.B. King, Love and Rockets, Selecter, Black Flag, Deep Purple? Now listen to each and every one of these and tell me you wouldn't have a blast playing these with your friends. The entire point of the game is the BAND, not the soloist. So many great songs are out there and people want to flood the damned with thing radio emo bull**** and angry ass metal? It's understandable that everyone isn't going to be happy with everything, but let's try and keep this balanced shall we? This game could be the best thing in gaming since our little pal Mario, let's not **** it up with **** that's played all day on every radio station fifty times in two hours.

No I know every band you listed noob. I don't think your list is bad I however don't think it fits the title you gave it....
YOU scream musically uneducated , calling all metal angry.. ever heard of POWER METAL or the classic HEAVY METAL?
you can't ****ing tell me power metal sounds angry....
And you sure as **** can't say judas priest and iron maiden and stuff sounds angry
Dumbass , you probably think slipknot is a good example of metal... GTFO

Ewww Slipnot.
Seriously, I don't hate metal at all. A lot of it I actually enjoy, but my point was I didn't want to see yet another music game fall prey to the same genre or subs of that genre. I had many more I was going to post (some even metal...which would have rounded it out a bit more) but I was getting a bit tired of it all. You must admit to the fact that the general populace does have zero taste and or education on music. Considering you knew every song/band on this list you must be well aware of that fact.
Music is a passion and as such I do tend to take it personally, more so when so many people have no idea how much good music is actually out there waiting for them to hear. But alas, most people are content to listen to whatever they're spoon fed and that I find offensive.
Apologies for my previous comment.

For some reason Smashmouth's "All-Star" came to mind when I read this.

Not that I'm shocked at all by your response. It screams musically uneducated. I feel so bad for you. It's nice to see a setlist that isn't full of generic classic rock, terrible punk pop and/or metal for a change, but stop being such an elitist *****.

Dire Straits - Sultans of Swing[/B]

Brian Setzer - Hell Bent
As loud as possible
Sultans of Swing is a good mellow pick, and any Brain Setzer song would definitely give the game more variety.

Hell yeah to Sultans of Swing! Did you get that idea from my thread? lol, i really want that, you've got some good stuff on here man, the only "angry" metal song that i'd really like to see put on there is raining blood, but that's just cuz i've been dying to play some slayer on GH, so i guess any slayer song would work really, some other death metal would be nice in my book too, but i know that that kind of music is only music to a select group of people so i'm not going strong behind it, it'd be nice for downloadable content though!

allright pretty good! but do you think the weight would be the bands best to play? I was thinking maybe The Shape I'm In or ....W.s. Walcott Medicine Show....yes these are unlikely picks but i feel they would fit better w/ the game....I can dream, right?
xtcdukes
07-26-2007, 01:15 AM
True, there are much better songs by The Band to play, but i must come clean and admit The Weight is a personal choice only because that song brings back a lot of good times for me.
Here's a few more I thought of on the way to work this morning:
Adolescents - Amoeba
Bauhaus - Sanity Assassin
Free - All Right Now
Red Ryder - Lunatic Fringe
Stranglehold - Ted Nugent
7 Seconds - Trust
Radio 4 - Our Town
Rush - 2112 (Side one in its entirety)
The Cure - Figurehead

whaddya think about supertramp? i'm thinkin Breakfast in America would be a blast.
I've think i've brought this one up before but Dio's The Last in Line would be pretty sweet.."We're off to the witch!" his lyrics are so ridiculous....fun though

I'm all for Supertramp.

I have to say, this is a really good ist. Coming from a guy who is named xtcdukes I expected something good. Could I suggest some songs for it? Possibly XTC? They have some good basslines.

07-26-2007, 01:41 AM
admittedly i may be walking off a cliff here but:
Highway 61 Revisited --BOB FREAKIN DYLAN
Backdoor Man -- Black Oak Arkansas ...i realize jim Dandy aint the easiest to emulate but that would be fun strutting around w/ your package in everyones face((spandex w/ no underwear is a MUST!));)
xtcdukes
07-26-2007, 01:47 AM
Thanks Gray.
I would have put some XTC as well (possibly No Language In Our Lungs or possibly Melt the Guns), but most people don't understand their diversity. They just assume they're that band that did Dear God. They are definitely the greatest band no one has heard of. haha
While Dylan is an exceptional songwriter, his music doesn't fit the "band" scheme of things, but again I'd gladly include some in exchange for Nirvana or the worst college band ever, Weezer.

yeah Dylan isn't realistic but I'm quite familiar w/ his catalog and I think that particular song- Highway 61- not the album of the same name but that song , would fit. Mike Bloomfield on guitar, kind of a garage rock feel (for '65 anyway) a rather straight foward rocking track. And a kazoo to boot! No not realistic, but maybe DLC!?!?
xtcdukes
07-26-2007, 03:28 AM
DLC would be ok, at the very least it would keep things eclectic and diverse.
Here's to hoping the entire Rush album 2112 appears as DLC.
