I am not sure if this has been asked already or not but when you are palying the vocals part and on multi player with oother people online..can they hear you singing or do they just see if you are keeping with the pitch?

This is up in the air. I don't believe there's any confirmed information on how exactly it's going to happen.

Most seem to think that it is possible, I'm not technical so I forget how they described it. But it was something about how it doesn't really have to send too much information through the network because it only needs to send signals regarding the buttons pushed, so there would be enough space or something to send the vocals through.

I know that's a horrible explanation, I'm sure someone else could do a better job. But as of now, nothing has been confirmed about it. In fact, they've never dipped into online play details at all yet.

I believe you could account for the latency online by having the singer start their performance a second or two before their counterparts. That way, by the time the voice is streamed over, the game could sync it up to the other participants.

I have my doubts if they can get the voice quality to a point where it's "good enough" though. My experience with internet-relayed voice chat apps has shown them to be of dubious voice quality. In a lot of ways, it would be significantly easier to not stream the vocalist, use the built-in singer, and only communicate their note streak/accuracy/points/etc.

How the whole voice aspect of the game works is really one of the most interesting unknowns to me. I've never seen this type of mechanic in a game, never played the karaoke series, etc.

You and me both, bro-ham! I'd feel totally stupid singing with all my heart knowing the rest of the "band" couldn't hear me. I did read an article (in EGM or on ign.com or something) Where they said they were proud and confident about the vocal aspects of the game, online-wise... I can't remember exactly what it said though.
Okay, here's the exact quote: " ...Lag free vocals. Rosenthal-Newsom isn't worried. 'We know how to do [online],' She says. 'We've been testing it, and it's going to be a great experience.' "

ehh... very vague... Not very encouraging...

yeah, but it does give a small hope because it said it was lag free...that would've been the only problem with vocals...so hopefully your bandmates can hear you..otherwise id be kinda dissappointed

It would completely suck the fun out of the game if you couldn't be heard.

Since it'll be lag free, that leads me to believe that the sound quality won't be that great.
