that'd be cool to hear some new songs announced. the 4 they announced today for GH3 were pretty hard hitting. even if only one was a new band for GH.. I kinda wish they wouldn't reuse bands yet ugh. SO MANY OTHER GREAT ONES BEING UNUSED!

They don't need to respond every time Guitar Hero does something. Why not release info closer to release and build some huge excitement?

Yeah, unfortunately Rock Band is still quite a ways away. With only 40 songs at release, they have to pace themselves.

Even with the new announcements on the table, I'd have to say Rock Band still has a decisive overall advantage.

* Battle mode based on the latest accounts is still gimmicky, doesn't hold a candle to 4 player performances with 2 new instruments.

* The GH3 controller is a "safe" and boring reworking of the existing controllers. No new features or other interesting mechanics were added. (removable faceplates don't count, thanks)

* Customizable/buildable characters in RB instead of a pre-built sandbox of 10 to 12 characters. Plus, Judy Nails' face is god-awful ruined.

* Simple things like the intuitive user interface (or lack thereof in GH3) fall in RB's favor.

* Based on preliminary information, RB's online and download content strategy would appear to be more favorable than GH3's. One would expect GH3's online strategy will likely follow the unpopular trend from GH2 360.

* Rock Band has good songs of its own.

*Edit: Almost forgot, Rock Band has at least 150% MORE COWBELL than GH3. If you've got that fever, Rock Band is your prescription.

The only one-up GH3 has at this point is that they invited a bunch of fans in for partying and testing. Sounds like Harmonix needs to outdo them and host something similar! (wink wink, hint hint, I'll sign the NDA and be on a plane tomorrow)

You know some new info is on the way. They aren't gonna let Nevercrotch or Activision take any fanfare away from RB. Especially since GH has already been established. Just wait my friends. The new info will come soon!

Yes! I like the way you think.

Oh, and absolutely was not implying that GH3 had officially overtaken RB in the hype machine or anything like that...I know the real score here. Was just hoping to goad them into releasing some info...ya know, egg them on a bit till they give in.

It's only been about 12 days since E3, I think we can wait a little longer for more info. If we get all the info now, we'll have nothing to look forward to for 3 months (meaning the info is most certainly going to be spaced out), by the end of August we'll probably have a bunch more songs announced, so just have some patience guys. Just because Guitar Hero released 4 songs doesn't mean Rock Band needs to. Although I'm very jealous of those guys at Score Hero who got to go and play the whole game, and see the whole set list. I wouldn't mind getting to go see Rock Band :D

I think that was the whole point by the GHIII folks...to get Harmonix/EA to show their cards a bit. Honestly, I thing the GH franchise is worried. Two of those 4 songs mentioned today are great, and would love them in RB. I think with that, they hope to see what else the RB crew has under the hood. Just a thought. When the time is right, Harmonix will unleash hell. ;)

I seriously doubt that. We'll be seeing a new GH game every October until one doesn't sell - which I don't see happening. With Activision and Neversoft, there is no way we won't see a yearly release - example: Tony Hawk 9, I mean Proving Grounds.

While EA does the same thing, sometimes they space them out a bit - the Fight Night games, the Def Jam games (man, they messed that up this time). Part of me wants RB to not see a sequel until 2009 - for all the DLC they promised, and maybe they'd sell expansion discs at retail, but the other part of me, hopes RB2 is already coming next fall.

Eh, as one of the bloggers said, they're in the home stretch, they're almost done, just another few months and we'll be crushing the GH3 competition!

As I think about it more, this whole stunt by the GH3 camp strikes me as a blatent way to bribe themselves back into the fans' good graces. Between the GH2 download songs fiasco, the lackluster E3 showing, and numerous "foot in mouth" incidents, GH3 has not exactly been setting the world on fire.

Back when Harmonix donated to the Scorehero.com fundraiser, they didn't use it as an opportunity to toot their horns about Rock Band features. They surely could have, but didnt. It was all very tastefully done. With the Neversoft crowd, marketing was quite obviously their entire agenda behind the fan interaction. I don't see the same tact, just shameless plugs aimed at retaining their "core" market.

I'm still pissed off about the content for the Xbox 360. 500 points was a rip-off for GH1 songs. I'd probably would have been less  if they were new, unreleased songs at that price. Also, we've had a measley 9 songs for a grand total of 1500 points since release. All the promises were broken, and nothing has been stated by Red Octane on WTF is going on. And how hard could it have been to do a download pack of the 80's. I'd pay the $40 for it to be able to play it on the 360. What a complete waste of tools and talent they pissed away, not to mention screwing over the fans of the game. :(

Why does everyone keep referring to Guitar Hero 3 as the "other guys". This much melodrama can cause cancer. I have a study that shows it but it burned in a fire.

Also they did release another download pack for the 360 version.

Another thing to keep in mind about the recent GH3 announcement.
I distintinctly remember when some of the songs on GH2 were "leaked". They were pretty darn big ones, like Freebird, Madhouse, and BatH. However, they still had 20+ songs to reveal at that point, so everyone got excited about what HUGE songs must be in store if we already heard about these big'uns.

Turns out, they had nothing left up their sleeve. In fact, the last 20 or so songs revealed were extremely anti-climactic, especially the last 3 or 4.

So although GH3 has released some big names and some pretty big songs, I don't necessarily believe that they have any other aces up their sleeves.

Rock Band, on the other hand, has me on the edge of my seat. With the AC/DC rumors I put in another thread and The Who and Metallica already on board, I just KNOW they got somethin' else that will blow our minds. Can't frickin' wait!
