My daughters just got DDR as a late Christmas gift and we will need two of the dance pads. Question is, the pad that comes with it looks stiff like it might not last long, is there a better quality after market pad that we can buy that would be better then buying a second "stock" pad??

redocatane.com has some great, long lasting soft pads for the older consoles (PS2, xbox). One of their soft pads with foam inserts will last a good year and more for around $80.

The next option would be metal pads, which are more like the arcade (yes, DDR is out in arcades...) The cheapest I've seen (and ended up buying) were about $130. My cheap metal pads still work, but have needed some wire patching, just from being pulled and stepped on at times. I bought them at least 4 years ago.

The final step would be Cobalt Flux (cobaltflux.com) pads. At $300 a pad, these last years and are recommended for tournaments and such.

Honestly, I'm not sure that there are pads for the newer consoles (Wii, XBox 360...) but worse case scenerio, you can buy the foam insert from a red octane pad, glue/tape it to the bottom of the original soft pad, and reinforce it with plywood for a rigid surface, and that will increase the pad's life.

Yeah. I'm waiting for a DDR made specifically for the PS3.

I'm waiting for when DDR and RB combine to make the ultimate video game experience:

Boy Band

Now everybody Pop-n-Lock!
