View Full Version : A Theory: Rock band and Guitar hero could end the mainstream crisis

Alot of real music fans complain about the mainstream being dominated by pop-punk and so I thought of this.. and was going to edit this into a post, but I decided to make this its own thread.

I feel a good way to make the mainstream go away , is this type of video game

If you put my chemical romance and fallout boy in rock band and then put a commercial for it on MTV , it will hook in those kids , they will come and play it ... and thus be FORCED to hear some other genres... thus exposing them

With that theory , them including "Emo" bands in rock band and guitar hero , would be doing the ENTIRE world a favor , because it might get a great magnitude of people to get over thinking its the only music in the world.

Basically , you hook in those people with the FOB and MCR and whatever , they buy the game... they hear other music... they say "WHERE HAVE THESE OTHER BANDS BEEN ALL MY LIFE?!?!" They quit masturbating to pete wentz hair , and then they become a fan of more than 1 genre.

You guys understand this?

That would be nice. If it worked, I would take one for the team and sit through a crappy Fall Out Boy song if the mainstream people could grow up, and find better music. It has a good chance of working, but if it backfires there will be idiots coming in and wanting more FOB and MCR.

Maybe it could have an ingame grammar lesson for these people too.

Yeah... all of you could "take one for the team" or... take 2 3 , 4... whatever ammount lol

But trust me if they put FOB , MCR , and panic! at the disco in rock band and then had MTV plug the fact that they would be in the game on every episode of TRL trust me it would get almost everyone who watches MTV for musical purposes to buy the game

Sure they would all be buying it for the pop-punk but they would be forced to play the other songs, thus mass exposure to music!

I think this idea is pure genius and harmonix needs to carry it out

you're on to something there, I started listening to some different stuff after I played through the first guitar hero, thats for sure.

Yeah exactly... I was about up to:

Pop punk
nu-metal
Metalcore (MTV2)
Minimal classic rock

Before I played guitar hero , guitar hero actually didn't in itself show me to any new bands really , but it did make my musical interest go through the roof and I vastly have researched music ever since, and I can say... w/o guitar hero and its forums and all of that I would probabaly still think Lamb of God and MCR were the best bands ever... now I don't even want to listen to those guys XD

Yeah GH/GH2 introduced me to Boston, Kansas, Iron Maiden, Cheap Trick, Wolfmother, etc.

A lot of them are my favorite bands now.

Same with me. I didn't know about Kansas, Cheap Trick, and other groups. I picked up extra classic rock from it.

Man, where have you guys been since the past, what, 30 years? :p

I guess your theory could and would work, though most fans of MCR and FOB will probably buy it for just THOSE TWO bands, and quit after they see the actual music. I say just don't put any of those bands, advertise it a MILLION times on MTV, and wait till' it gets a hold of those pop-punk freaks. Really, MTV can scam their way through anything. Eventually the 'scenesters' will get brainwashed by all the RB ads and they'll zombie their way to GameStop quicker than you know it.

So, intead of killing them, they might learn something from buying the game?

What am I gonna do with my battleaxe now?

Kill the people that make the horrible music.

Hey, that might be an idea.
Just don't overpollute the game with all this emo crap (even though something with the MTV brand doesn't make me so trusty, to be honest).

Now wait just a minute there:

Are you serious you didn't know Iron Maiden before playing The Trooper on GH2?!?!? Man, you gotta be kidding me. Seriously, for a band that's easily the biggest heavy metal band ever, I think it's just uncanny that you didn't know them so much. Just don't take it personally, okay?

Kill the people that make the horrible music.

That would be a solution to all our music-related problems.

Well, I knew of them, I just didn't really know any of their songs because I almost never listen to the radio and none of my friends were metalheads. But after listening to The Trooper I got interested in their music and started listening to them regularly. But, yeah, it would have been weird if I'd never even heard of them.

It might work, but if those bands do get in the game, we better not have to play their songs.

We are gonna have to wait and see. I can only hope that the game does something to change the state of music today. I stopped listening to radio or watching music tv years ago.

Im seriously getting closer and closer to just saying '**** IT im starting a band'.
