View Full Version : Not just four members?

will there be any possible way to make a three-piece band, instead of the so proposed four-member format? I mean, with the vocalist also playing guitar (like Metallica, KISS or the Beatles), or bass (Motörhead, Pink Floyd, Slayer or... KISS)?
I don't propose lead guitarist along with rhythm guitar in whatever format it is, because that would pollute too much the graphics, but is there any way to make it as the format above?

I want 5 and 6 piece bands! Dual and Triple lead guitars ftw! Just look at Iron Maiden;
3 Lead/Rythmn guitarists + 1 Best bassist in the world.
I want to see more songs which have dual leads as well, theres so many songs which have seperate solos between the guitars as well as both playing their own rythmn sections.
Although, i cant decide with Iron Maiden, seeing as they have some of the best bass lines around but also have the excellent dual leads.
But back on topic, yeah, Id like to see some option to be able to select how many characters represent your band, but I doubt we will see it because it seems they are pretty set on the whole 4 players thing.

I think so. Get a mic stand. On solos, where you have to hit the mic, you could lightly AND I MEAN LIGHTLY tap your head on it. Give it to the Rhythm/Bassist since they'll be doing less during a solo. Thats what my band is doing.

I think hes referring to ingame characters, seeing as that would still mean there would be two sepereate characters on screen singing and playing guitar.

Fair enough... that could be a problem for online play I'm not made of money so I couldnt make another Live account to play mic... damn it PS3 has an advantage over 360 on this one. But then again PS3 wouldnt allow the same person to have 2 accounts so i guess they're in the same boat. Cos to play mic id need another account.
So then... my idea doesnt work online. Harmonix are after 4 players, not 3... and i dont think thats gonna change.

Again, you seem to misunderstand. I think hes referring to the graphical characters, not the online mode. Just what you see on screen playing the music.

I want a keyboard position

I don't even know what to say to this thread lol....but I'll try.
No, on the screen, it will consist of 4 members. There will be a stand alone singer who doesn't play guitar or anything, along with a drummer, bassist, and guitarist.
If you choose to be the guitarist and sing at the same time, on the screen it will show up as Player 1 the singer, and Player 2 the guitarist. You'd be playing with 2 "controllers".
And will people please stop requesting a keyboard. It's way too late to implement that into the game. Maybe in Rock Band 2 or something.

no... you're misunderstanding ME... im not talking about what the threadstarter said, cos making charachters isnt particuarly important. But his question led me to realise that a 3 man band wouldnt work within Rock Band, not just from a charachter design point but also from an online point.

You only need at least 2 people to play Band co-op and career. Any instrument not being played by a player, will be played by the computer. You don't need all 4 nor even 3 people to play Band mode.

However, some Xbox Live games allow you to add local "guest" users to online play. I would guess that RockBand will include that ability - as they've said it will support any combination of online and offline, and that feature would be pretty worthless if multiple players on the same console would each require an Xbox Live account in order to go online. (No idea on the PS3 side though).

Couldn't you just sign in a guest during online play? If you're the only one using your console it should allow you to hook up and use 2 "controllers" even if you're the only one using them.

I must say, this is possibly the best speculative article I've ever seen on this game. This idea is genius. I do have one comment: It's a good thing there's no keyboard position. I have friends who'd try to go Geddy on the Rush songs and play bass, vocals, and keyboard.

You're being extremely vague. You want all of who in the band? You can have 4 people at your house, playing Band mode with you, OR go online and have 3 people to play with you. You're right I don't understand you, you do not make any sense in your posts.
Please elaborate with more than just one sentence responses. Thanks.

I think it was that long video that GameSpot had, that the singer
stuck the mic in guys face standing next to him to sing a backup
line of the song and it worked.
Looks like you could sign in a fake singer and sing yourself
with the mic around your neck on a coat hanger or stand.

Sure, 2 people could sing into the mic, but they were showing that, not what was going on on the screen. For all we know that could have went down as a missed note, or ended the streak or something.
I can't imagine 2 people could sing into it (on harder difficulties at least) with it not messing up. They'd have sing absolutely perfectly in unison for it to work I would imagine.

You could do it in one of the freestyle bits, where the pitch meter fills up the whole screen (rather than showing you high or low). The bits where your meant to just sing it however you like, usually the chorus'. Watch the videos again, you will see what I mean.

When you patronise me and put in thanks to just twist the knife more I won't elaborate. I know all I need to know. Im gonna be in a 3 person band and we're gonna take it in turns for drums guitar and bass/rhythm, if you were for some reason, finished trying (and failing) to hide your stupidity under my lack of, interested in that.
Thanks.

So you're just irked that there will be four characters on the screen instead of three?
No, no. I gathered all the clues and figured it out. I'm pretty sure you won't need an additional account to use the mic online at the same time as another instrument as long as it's on the same console.
July issue of Game Informer:
"Rock Band will feature full support for four-player online play on both 360 and PS3. You can even mix and match. Perhaps you and your brother want to play guitar and drums, but your best friend is away at college with his roommate, and they're up for bass and vocals. Any combination of off and online play will work, and each player can pick their own difficulty setting."
I hope that helps. To me it sounds like it'll be fine for you. Although, I'm not that familiar with the PS3's online intricacies. Perhaps you're disappointed that the scores you'll be earning, won't be added to your game save. That's a legitimate concern, but I can think of very little that can be done about it.

To try to answer your question, I know you'll be able to play offline with three people easily. Online... I think you have to have four, but you can always just pick up another player from the random masses online.

Ok Maiden Fan... Tell me who the third guitarist was? Got a pic of all three of them on a stage somewhere? Love to see it... [/sarcasm]
