View Full Version : September Gamepro NEW INFO!!!!

Just got the new issue of Gamepro in the mail and it has a 3-page article on rockband. There are two new bits of big info that I got out of the article. First there is a quote about the venues of the World Tour Mode and here it is:

"Road Trip
Put the roadies to work! In Band World Tour mode, you'll be rocking socks off in these famous rock cities across the globe...in real venues!

- Amsterdam
- Berlin
- Boston (three confirmed venues: Charles Pub, in Somerville, The Establishment in Cambridge, and Hancock Theatre)
- Chicago
- London
- Los Angeles
- Moscow
- New York
- Paris
- Reykjavik
- Rio de Janeiro
- Rome
- Seattle
- San Francisco
- Stockholm
- Sydney
- Tokyo"

And that isn't it also it says that along with The Who's "Who's Next" album being available for download, Nirvana's "Nevermind" is also confirmed to hit after launch.

Then it says another little fact about the World Tour mode where it says "You'll tour an astonishing 41 venues in the game's World Tour Mode"

And last but not least, in the final paragrraph it says, "On November 6, clear some space. Your living room is your stage, and your fans span the globe" So this might mean a Nov. 6th release date so far! Hey that's better than a Nov. 20th release date.

Omg, thank your for posting this, this is the best news I have heard since E3 (well kinda the only news hah). Nevermind?! Yes it was only a matter of time, I cannot wait for it to come out, I've been waiting a long time to get my hands on a whole playable Nirvana album, I have been hoping for it since Guitar Hero I.

The amount of venues in the game are so cool, and I guess they are all based off real places, which makes it even cooler!

And is that an official release date? I hope so, thats when Guitar Hero II came out, and its about a week or two after GH III is slated to come out, so I hope its for real, and the sooner we get this game the better!

YES YES YES I finally get to play Drain You!!!!

Yup, I noticed this too, I wonder what could be next, Maybe some Queens of the Stonage or Weezer please?!

Or maybe its stuff we haven't had announced yet...although they have hinted that Metallica will have an album release, so that might be near release too!

I hope they release an album that would be somewhat challenging.. for us expert players. I respect what they are putting out but we need some skilled musicians (by skilled I mean masters..virtuoso's) bands up there like Dream Theater. even better if you let the second guitar choose between keyboard and bass. everything doesnt have to be totally realistic

Sorry man, you just dropped a few pegs musically in my eyes after this comment. What the heck do you mean "but we need some skilled musicians"?!

The first album for DLC are from absolute masters of their crafts. You can not tell me that John Entwistle was not a master of the Bass and did things that no one else did at the time (nor has done since).

Pete Townshend practically invented the Power Chord and took it to new heights! In addition the man is simply THE most talented songwriter to ever grace the Earth. If he hadn't had that mental breakdown in 1971 I think he would have completely re-invented the way we look at music (Read up on the Lifehouse project people!!!)

Roger Daltrey had (and still has) an amazing voice and was a master frontman for the band. He has a wide range from the low growls to the high screams and everything else in between.

Keith Moon invented modern drumming. Before this man came along drumming was relegated mostly to the background keeping time for the rest of the band. Keith made the drums a lead instrument and taught a whole generation that drums could be much more than kick, hit, fill. I still believe he had 4 arms!

Please do not come on here saying that a group like "Dream Theater" who merely build on what was already there (and not very well either I might add) and add nothing new are more musically talented than those who invented the way music is today.

It's akin to saying that My Chemical Romance is better than Robert Johnson (and the first person who does say that seriously gets a boot up the backside)

I dont like Nirvana, but I will definatley buy a couple tracks off Nevermind if we can download songs individually.

Weekly albums? Holy jimminy Crap-mas. Between the announcement of Suck my Kiss in Gh3, and weekly downloadable albums in Rock band, this is the greatest week ever for rythmn game fans (well, at least until the week after Gh3 and Rock Band come out)

Is anyone starting to get the feeling they will have every album from the songs they picked in the game? That would be great. First Whos Next... then Nevermind...

But it could just be coincidence.

Just listened through basically all of Nevermind just for kicks. The drums are going to be amazingly fun, period. Basslines are all catchy and will be challenging. The guitar parts may not be hard on a normal guitar but I can see them making it fun and challenging in RB.

And the vox... Ohhhhhh the vox

This is another perfect choice for the game. It's a very very balanced album altogether. Give it a run through and you'll see what I mean if you picture it in the game.

It hasn't been confirmed whether or not you can download single songs off full albums, but most likely you will be able to, so I don't think you have to worry about buying full albums for certain songs, besides the albums we know about so far are awesome, at least I thin , and are worth the full download.

Based on the fact that the full albums both have a song from the main game list, I'm gonna predict that the next album announced will be either Bon Jovi: "Slippery When Wet" or Metallica's Black Album. But yea QOSTA's "Songs for the Deaf" and Weezer's Blue Album would definately be awesome!

i5hawn
07-28-2007, 03:32 AM
i think with the cities it will be fictional venues (unless they're a "public" work like stonehenge) so don't count on seeing actual places you know (although that would be amazing) if they were doing actual locations, i'd like to see the trocadero in philly, isle of wight and hyde park in england, it'd be sick to get invites to certain tours/festivals too like woodstock or lollapalooza or even ozzfest.

JB4GDI

Man this is awesome news.

Nevermind was definitely on my most wanted album lists. Im not a huge fan of the Who but respect what they did for music back in the day (Lets face it Keith Moon was drumming... amazing).

Hope they announce more albums on the run up to launch, its good they are taking a wide cross section of music through the 60s to modern day... something for everyone no doubt.

Funny enough I was just watching a documentary on the life of Keith Moon last night and it instantly got me thinking of Bill Hicks' comments on drugs having a positive effect...

(Of course they're going to do something to **** it up like announce the Black Album by Metallica next. Just watch.)

The more metallica the better. and the blakc album really isn't that bad.

I'd love for it to be in the game.

I wouldn't be surprised to see an Ozzy album in there, although i doubt we'll see many more DLC album announcements until much later

Hey now, the Black Album would be AWESOME! The more Metallica the better and the cd is filled with great songs.

Yeah yeah, it's not awful or anything, but Metallica just has so much better stuff- Master of Puppets, Ride the Lightning etc...

WOAH! And looking closer I think it says "Full, yes that's right, full album downloads every week after launch." I just assumed the weekly DLC was going to be just a couple songs here and there, but full albums every week? DAMN!
WOW.........I wouldn't get too hyper about this...I doubt that harmonix will follow this trend for more than a month or two before releasing singles or something....I do not care either way. I hope that this was just a typo because if this game gets any cooler I will go into cardiac arrest and not be able to play it.

That would be niiice. There does seem to be a trend here of announcing albums they've already got songs from.
I know.......LETS ALL HOPE FOR MOVING PICTURES!!!!!!! If the announced that the third album was moving pictures, I'd F***ing die.........I can only hear about 50 big/awesome announcements before my heart just stops working....and they are on about 47!!!!!

Yeah, I'd love to see Ziggy Stardust make an appearance. I was also kinda hoping that a lot of bands from GH would make it into RB like ZZ Top and Boston.
Boston would be an amazing band in there.
And about Smells Like Teen Spirit; I was expecting that to eventually be in one of these rythm games. It was such a big song that there was no doubt in my mind that it would in some way get in.

Should have Brixton Academy and the old Wembley as London venues.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention; I love all the venues. The more, the better. I'm also very pleased with the choice for a Chicago venue because I live in Chicago. I hope they do something like the Boston venues and have multiple venues for Chicago.
That'd be sweet.

Hope they'll release the In Utero album too, although that's not likely to happen.

Dream Theater Is Better Than The Who

Of course though, musical taste is all about opinion so there's no need to spew a long post about nothing trying to make other people agree with you.
The post wasn't about personal musical taste. If you look at my other posts in these forums you'll see that I'm one of those staunch defenders of those who get crapped on because of their taste.

If you believe that Dream Theatre is better than The Who, by all means believe that.

HOWEVER, my post was about the statement made by the poster I replied to about having a lack of "skilled musicians" being announced for DLC on RB. No one, not one of you could possibly back up an arguement that the two albums announced so far were not made by people who were very skilled at musicianship. You may not like the bands, but you have to acknowledge their contributions. Without both The Who and Nirvana music would be VERY different.

We aren't talking personal taste here, and I'm not trying to change anyones opinions. What I am trying to do is point out an error made by the original poster.

If you like Dream Theatre, great! Good for you! However, their music is just built slightly upon what was already done before without much expansion or innovation. The Who, on the other hand, built many of the things that are now mainstay in the music industry (drums becoming a lead instrument instead of just a background, power chords, the whole concept of telling a story through an album (rock opera)). In addition, Nirvana invented a whole new genre and popularized it. These are two names that are going to be known throughout time as innovators. Unless Dream Theatre pulls something amazing out of their heads, I think they will end up lost in time like the great many before them.

I'm still hoping for the album, "The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars".

Ziggy Stardust needs to make its return from GH to RB. And seeing as Suffragette City is on the album.... here's hoping.

Let me back you up with a hearty "hell yeah!"... The bitter does come out better with a stolen guitar. In fact I've been wanting to play through TRAFOZSATSFM since first playing the original Guitar Hero.

Which reminds me of an old idea I had. Ziggy Stardust has been re-released a million times in different collectors editions, 30th anniversary editions, etc... I had a vision of musical artists releasing versions of their albums with GH tablature in the data track. Buy the album at the store, listen to it on your stereo, and as a bonus, pop the CD into your current game of GH and play all the tracks from the album.

I wonder if the design of Rockband would allow such a thing? I wonder if Harmonix has considered the cross marketing potential?

PS:I hope the Seattle venue is The Crocodile Cafe...

Since both of the systems allow you to store things on the hard drive, and that's how the DLC would work, I could see a system like that existing.

If the CD was good enough, I would totally buy it and add the songs to Rock Band. Awesome idea!

I really like the idea, but DLC is really the way it's going to go, period. Even if bands wanted to encode their songs in Rock Band, they'd have to worry about note charts, having all the tracks in the right format, and things that are a part of Rock Band song's coding that they couldn't really create on their own. They'd have to send it to Harmonix first and get it all done. So it would end up just being a step more than DLC. And the data files for Rock Band are going to be quite different from just normal audio you'd find on a CD, so it's not as easy as one would like. Oh, well.

It's a really fantastic thought, but it just wouldn't work out.

Alternatively - how about some cross-marketing with an online music store, such as iTunes. It could either be a direct link, such as a bundle package where you're buying both the real songs and the RockBand versions, or it could be a related link, such as a discount on the real songs when you buy the RockBand versions.

It'd probably work better the other way around: I hear a song I like, but it off a iTunes, then get a discount to buy it for Rock Band. A great idea though.

the way for this to work would be for an artist to announce an album exclusively for rockband but they just drop audio data on top of the preexisting game, so we'd see expansions in the stores a la pc gaming. the biggest problem with this is that you'd only be able to play it back in a dvd player since the game isn't coming on anything smaller than that, and sony forces ps3 devs to use the blu-ray discs. a double cd that retailed for maybe 35$ with the game expansion disc and a regular ole cd packed in would be fantastic though. but that will never happen since the game isn't really being designed in that respect. it'd be nice that for however much we'll be paying (60$) minimum to drop an official soundtrack into the bundle set.

Hey all, just to clarify regarding some of the comments in this article-

We have previously announced that Rock Band features Nirvana's "In Bloom". To date, the only official announcement we have made regarding Rock Band album downloads is The Who, Who's Next. We will keep you updated on more Rock Band news as soon as we get it .

Woah. So not only did Gamepro misrepresent that you were releasing full albums every single week, but they also ran with the fact that you pushing out the entire Nevermind album, when that's not necessarily the case? And I've heard that last bit referenced a LOT, on other forums and even on local radio stations. Gamepro = very, very dumb if they made all that crap up...and there's going to be a lot of upset people if Nevermind doesn't actually appear as an album download.

This is all not good news...ugh. We have to avoid this type of mis-information Rock Band crew...not good, not good at all...

Come on dudes, read between the freaking lines.

Sean didn't say that the information wasn't true. He said that Harmonix wasn't allowed to confirm it yet, most likely because it is embargoed.

Nevermind is coming, this just slipped out ahead of the planned publication cycle.

I would be absolutely crushed if the nevermind 'confirmation' turned out to be BS but i mean... Courtney Love sold a huge share of nirvanas repetoire a couple years ago so I don't see any reason why it wouldn't be in it. Hell, in bloom was in a baseball game  I think it's an actual confirm.

I already posted this but it didn't show up. So if there is a double post sorry.

It wasn't 'In Bloom' it was 'Breed'.

I think that 'Nevermind' is coming out but the mag just jumped the gun. I don't think HMX was ready for that yet. Also, with such a positive response for these forums and others, I think that if it wasn't coming out it is now. The people at HMX aren't dumb and they are there to make money. They already have 'In Bloom' and 'Heart Shaped Box' was in GHII so who ever has the rights, I'm sure would let them use it. Now we know they will sell a lot of downloads.

I wonder how all this will fall into place... I mean, there's 17 venues, and only 40 songs? Unless if they're planning something completely different from Guitar Hero, there's going to be like... 2 or 3 songs per venue.

About the more venues than usual,
This is what I think it will be like
You play your 5 or so songs, then you go to a different venue, as normal. But since you start off in your home town, you move on to other places that are near you. Maybe the game will let you choose between the two closest venues. then you play your 5 or so songs there, and so on and so forth. But at the end of the tour you haven't been to every venue. I am sure that they will all be unlocked after completing to tour mode, even if you haven't been to all of them.
Just in case you still don't understand, I took the liberty of drawing up a diagram for you :D
