View Full Version : How many of you play BWT by yourself

I was wondering how many other people have a band reserved to be played strictly by them and them alone. I play Bass/Vocals in mine
currently 853,000 fans and ive only been working on it for a week or so.
So how many of you have a band and approx how many fans have you accumulated by yourself without any other players involved, in other words no second guitar player or drummer and such
::edit::
Okay lets expand on this question with the addition of, "what are the names of your solo bands?"
If your band started out solo and then u later had friends jump in for a couple songs or something dont put a name out there. Only interested in seeing the people who are legit solo bands (no offense)

I have 91161 fans in two days. I've been playing lead guitar and vocals but I stopped playing BWT for awhile.

it was a little tough at first but if you have completed the vocal solo career on expert it isnt to hard to manage doing them without looking at the vocal levels.

I started bass/singing, but i've only gotten up getting the van. 13494 fans. Last time i played, i was under the impression the BWT was online, so wasn't very worried about soloing it. Looks like i'll have to though, as most of my friends live in another city.

I do it Guitar/Bass and vocals, 520000 fans and nearly ready for the endless setlist. Its unlocked but I need to practice a couple of songs before I waste 5 hours just to fail out.
I tend to find it easier to sing if you arent looking at the words. Takes the pressure off trying to hit every pitch perfectly.

Just started a guitar/vocal band a week ago, I have hit the medium fan cap, time to go to hard on the vocals.
This is the most fun you can have with Rockband....by yourself.

I've done some of this (not much for a while, been sick). Mostly guitar/vox, maybe a couple of songs drums/vox and I don't think I've done any bass/vox. Expert/Hard is getting mostly straightforward (except for the last tier), Expert/Expert is much more challenging.
I think I have something like 669,000 fans and 560 stars? I've done the HoF induction set and I'm dreading attempting the endless setlist.

Expert Guitar/Hard vocals (the songs I know REALLY well I'll bump up to expert vocals)
I only got to about 300k fans before my friends all came over and wanted to use the "new" band, but now the one I started alone is up to 6 mil or something (although now it's being used with my friends and by myself)

I just started doing this last night, but I'm sticking with Medium vocals/Medium bass until I have more confidence in how well I know the songs.
To that end, I've been doing a vocal solo tour on Hard and not letting myself move past a tier until I've scored at least four stars on each song. I don't like dealing with BWT mystery sets before I gain confidence on some of the songs.

for my solo tour on vocals i played medium one time through to learn the lyrics to all the songs and get their general sounds and then jumped straight to expert with little problem. (gimme shelter, and the hand that feeds were the pnly ones i had trouble with) and ive gone back raising my total career score since then to try all 4+ *s
I find it a lot harder if you play hard or medium a ton before moving to the next difficulty because u get so set in that difficulty that you then have to break all the hbits youve formed with it.

I play guitar, vocals medium/hard, started that before I got the full bundle back in November (before the Canadian release date). The only thing I haven't done is the endless setlist (which, if the weather forcast holds true, I will be doing tomorrow during a big snowstorm).
I find it a challenge, and very enjoyable when there isn't someone else to join you. My next big challenge is vocals/drums. I have done a little of this, but it is a lot harder than guitar/vocals.
I will also step up to expert bass/vocals to get my fan base up, but expert vocals still poses a challenge for me as I am not that great a singer (ranked in the 2000's on xbox, but I have control challenges on expert)
I really wish the solo tour was similar in design to the BWT mode. BWT is so much more fun than just song after song. Solo tour reminds me too much of GH which at this point, other than the quality hardware, I would rather forget.

I do expert/expert guitar/vox. Beaten the endless setlist, 16 million fans.
Love the challenge. Currently trying to fill in all of the "Big in ..." achivements, which is a mess. 1500 stars and I have like 6 of them.
I have nothing but props for anyone who can do drums/vox, because that's a talent I just don't possess. I encourage everyone to give it a try, even if you lose some fans or have to play at a lower difficulty. Once you can balance two of them it's a blast. I never remotely considered that singing+instrument would be any good, and I was flat wrong.

I agree 100% Apples. The combo is such a challenge that is purely enjoyable. Whether you can sing or not, that doesn't really matter. Learn to meet the challenge of vocals in Rockband which is a little different than just straight singing and then throw in guitar, bass or drums, and try again and see how well you do. What a riot. It is a lot of fun, much more that I was hoping for when I first found out about Rock Band.
Give it a try if you haven't already.

I do hard/hard vocals/guitar. I have done enough expert songs to get through the fan cap but I get irritated when I fail now so I'm thinking I will do all the fixed set lists I can get through before attempting any of the remaining user made setlists. There's only one or two songs that give me problems right now, all from the bonus tour.

I do drums/vocals on expert. The band name is The Winters. Currently above 25 million fans. I occasionally play on expert guitar/vox or expert bass/vox with this band also - since there are a few songs that I can't beat on expert drums/vocals yet.
So far I can beat 36 of the 58 retail songs on expert drums/vocals, and I've beaten at least 17 of the DLC songs. But now my yellow pad is dead, and I'm waiting for replacement drum pads.
Multitasking adds a great new challenge to the game - I think it also improves solo performances when you go back to solo. It surprises me how much I enjoy doing vocals + instrument since I was not excited about the vocal aspect of the game before it came out.

Yeah. It's special.
I've been doing this becuase my sister doesn't play often enough.
I had 700,000 fans this morning, but I attempted Endlist Setlist on Expert Lead/Expert Vox.
...FINISHED IT!!! Songs like Blood Doll and Timmy! and Seven were tough because I hadn't played any bonus songs, so I failed...a lot. I actually passed GG&HT on my FIRST attempt, along with most other songs.
But as a downside, I now have....900 fans. And since most of the gigs are done, I may just start over for the million fans achievment and the big in achievments, since I can't see to regain fans easily.

The singer is Hock Phlegm.
The guitarist is Apocalypse Blue (he wears all blue and dresses in Road Warrior gear).
So the band name, naturally, is Hockin' Blue.

its so much easier to pass the hard songs when ur playing vocal/guitar or bass i love having the extra star power to unleash at my will to save whichever i need
then again i wouldnt have that problem so much if my friend i usually play with could remember her overdrive. Ive had songs where she has set down the guitar and given up while she had a full overdrive gauge

I'm on medium. I'm only going to do hard to unlock all the venues but i suck as singing. I actually don't like it that much. I would much rather there be a single player BWT. I was so god damn disappointed that there wasn't and instead it was the same old thing like in GH.

Yes it is. Vocal Expert tour took several tries on a few songs (though oddly nothing past Welcome Home). Reptilia in particular was tough at first. And the end of Foreplay/Long Time.
But it's also so much harder on songs you DON'T know intuitively when you're doing two things at once. For instance, today on Blood Doll, after my 2nd Strike on Vocals, I STOPPED playing the Guitar expect to keep myself from failing every 5-10 notes or so to focus on vocals.

The thing that I'm finding I can do--which sort of surprises me--is glance between the bass chart and the vocal layout without messing up.
This possibly comes because I know the bass parts so well from having played them so often.
And, oddly, I'm playing bass much worse at Medium--so much so that I'm considering boosting the bass to Expert (where I know most of the charts from having played them online a zillion times) to see if I can't get a better overall performance.
My big problem in the double-play is that I tend to know the vocal choruses of pretty much every song, but get murdered on vocal melodies. I mean, I can fudge the lyrics if I know the melody, but some of these just have subtleties to them that don't just let you get away with singing what sounds good.

I have a quick question. I haven't attempted this because I have respect for my roommates. I know that when I sing, I may be on key, but sound horrible at the same time. So in songs like Don't Fear the Reaper, when you're playing and singing, how do you hit the cowbell stuff for the vocalist?

I play with my onemanband "Deutschrock" (I'm german).
I started one week ago and completed the endless setlist and the hall of fame ceremony on medium. Sunday I managed to get through everything on hard and next weekend I want to beat the endless setlist on expert.
I sing with my frontman Allister (Top40 vocalist) and play guitar with Gitarrenmeister Stevo. (I will switch to bass though next weekend, expert is a little bit too much for me on guitar).
@Reichlein: I sing some kind of "plopp" or "ha" into the mic to hit the cowbell etc.

I find it really hard to have it register my voice for the tambourine hits when playing and singing, for some reason it doesn't pick up a lot of them. I guess it is expecting a pretty loud sound since you are supposed to whack it....?
Bullseye
01-15-2008, 02:35 PM
For those tambourine parts, I find my self just yelling "yeah-yeah" a lot. I have a hard time yelling on cue for those pesky little bubbles that scroll across the screen, so chanting a continuous mantra of "yeah-yeah, yeah-yeah, yeah-yeah, yeahhhhhhhh, (pause for breath) yeah-yeah, yeah-yeah-yeah, yeah-yeah, etc" seems to help get those bonus points.
Unfortunately, my one man band is named Kissed (unoriginal name for my Kiss facsimile band) but is lead by Gene Simmons, so I'm stuck playing the guitar. i should have made Paul my leader, since vocals are the key to the solo BWT. Poor Ace and Peter will never get a chance. Well, at 135 stars, I'm only 27 songs into it...I guess I could always restart.

I've been attempting this very slowly since the game game out... I'm married w/ children so gaming time is sparse.
My band is "Me, Myself, and I". I am up to 697,000 fans now but nowadays I almost only choose expert/expert on the songs that I am best at in the 'choose a setlist' sets. Other than that I usually play on med. vocals and hard lead guitar when playing in my one man band.
My best expert/expert songs are: Vasoline, ILS, Cherub Rock, Dont Fear the Reaper, Creep, I Think Im Paranoid, Dani California, Black Hole Sun, Hand That Feeds, Say It Aint So, and Epic.
Coincidentally, these are all songs I know just about all the words by heart and have sung them many times in my car while driving. :)

As much as it sucks you can skip the percussion parts since they dont hurt you other than score wise.
I usually don't worry about trying to hit the percussion so much but when its going i will say do do do do or such into the mic in rhythm with the guitar so that way i hit a good number of them but don't mess up my bass rythm.
If it isn't registering your noise turn up the sensitivity, i play with mine at about 1/4-1/3 when im holding the mic, and around 3/4+ when i have it in the stand.

That's not a coincidence, that's called practice. I can nail "I Think I'm Paranoid", even though it's a female vocalist, just because of my rush hour vocals training. Knowing the lyrics by heart = being able to pay attention to the instruments. Glad to see someone else out there progressing as slowly as me.

Maybe that's what my problem has been. I'm using a Logitech PS2 headset and it works very well when I sing, but it won't register my percussive noises and I have a heck of a time getting it to trigger Overdrive--I have to boost my volume a lot and hold it for about a second to get it to trigger, which often screws up my breathing patterns and causes me to drop the next phrase.

Go check post #38 in this thread.
I'm using the USB headset that Logitech made for the PS2. I used to use it with Karaoke Revolution 2, and it works just as well with RB (though I need to try the mic sensitivity test listed above).
The boom is a little on the stubby side, and if your cheeks are as chubby as mine, it might brush against them occasionally, but it picks up my singing very well and I do as well with it as I do with the RB mic (which is also a Logitech).

You can always just get a hold of a cheap but good quality mic stand at guitar center, or from their online store.

I've been doing the standard 360 headset, but then I have to put the controller in my back pocket. There's been several mishaps, that includes unplugging the headset, hitting the glowing "xbox button of mayhem", and NEVER, under any circumstances, get so caught up in the song that you jump...it ends in the controller falling to the ground. Oh and I have to imagine myself as Madonna to beat the stigma of feeling like a boy band. Oh, wait, maybe that's worse...

Phil Collins too whilst playing drums with Genesis.
The Genesis shows I saw (three or four of them) had Phil as the front man while Chester Taylor played most of the drums.
It was cool, though: Collins had his own kit set up and he and Taylor would often be playing simultaneously. I mean, how many bands have YOU seen that have two drummers with full kits playing together?
There was one song--can't remember which--that had a vocal break for Phil in the middle of all the drumming, so he stayed at his kit and sang a few lines using a boom mic, then went back to drumming.
So, none of the shows I saw had a headset. But they were no less awesome for it.
EDIT: I'm not trying to say you're wrong, Xero.Talent--just explaining why I remember the headset on Gabriel first--because I never saw one on Collins.

so my band name is Another Crappy Band. I started it with my wife, her on drums and me on guitar (later added her sister on vocals). Ironically it ended up me playing on drums all the time and my wife on guitar....until we hit the medium fan cap.
I was playing on hard for awhile but my wife had yet to get started in playing on hard. She's been practicing for awhile now, but still can't seem to get the hang of it.
To make progress she switched to singer, and my back on guitar (the band leader). She was able to complete a few, but still has problems on many of hte songs. As much as I love her, she is totally tone deaf and sucks at singing.
So a couple days ago I decided to sing and play guitar on my own. In that one day I went from medium fan cap, to unlocking everything up to the endlist setlist :P
I prop my mic in the most ghettoist of fashions. In that little whole on the drum set, I run the mic chord through wrap it around the back, and loop it around the mic to hold it up. Amazingly it works really well, only problem is the drums getting in the way of my guitar when i try to activate overdrive (it doesn't help that my guitars overdrive doesn't like to activate when its tilted).
Finally, for the way i make the tambourine sounds, I make a noise with my mouth very similar to a bass drum beat on the drums, very up close and loudly. I am a natural beat boxer and this sound is very easy for me to produce clearly and in rythm. I can easily get 100% on these sections, except for the ones that have multple different, changing timings. Keeping track of those at the same time as my guitar notes and doing what amounts to two different rythms is difficult.

As much as I love her, she is totally tone deaf and sucks at singing.
LOL... my wife is the same, God bless her. I'm not much better mind you, but I can at least make it through vocals on expert.
Also, someone a few posts back mentioned how hard Suffragette City was and I couldn't agree more. I mean for a song that I love and have sung so many times while driving, I totally suck at it in RB.
