View Full Version : Drum pad adhesive?

Over the weekend I decided to try my hand at quieting my drums while adding some additional style. I'd read that foam+felt doesn't hold up well, but I'd read some good things about mouse pads. I bought one mouse pad and glued it down and found that it did provide a noticeable noise reduction while not noticeably reducing sensitivity.
So, being the nerd I am, I decided that I'd get mouse pads the color of the 4 drums and have sporty red, yellow, blue, and green drum heads.
Problem is, I went to about 5 different stores, and let me tell you....blank yellow mousepads are practically impossible to find. Heck I could even find on online.
So I was at a craft store and I thought "what if I glued some felt to the top of the mouse pads?" I could use colored felt to make it look all jazzy, and presumably the mousepads would hold up a lot better than the foam+felt version.
So that's what I did. It looks good, it plays quieter, and the sensitivity feels good. However, my felt is already starting to peel away from the mousepads, and in a few places the underside of the mousepad is already starting to come up from the drum pad. This after only a few days.
I had glue these down with some spray adhesive that I think was made by Elmer's. The can claimed to be good for cloth, rubber, etc, etc.
Does anyone have another adhesive that they can recommend? Preferably one they've used on their drums?

i just used carpet tape. I had other double sided tape before but it didn't stay on very well...you could also try rubber cement

Use heavy duty 3m carpet tape in an X or + design. Also, You will find you wasted your time buying them in different colors because they work best with the foam side up (at least for me). when the fabric side was up I had alot of problems with the pads stretching and becoming concave. Also, the carpet tape sticks better to the fabric side.
Another note, if you cut them to the exact size as the drum head they will likely fall off because they stretch a little and when the pad hits the rim of the drum it starts to lift off the tape. I cut them to be the same size as the grey part and they work great.

Buy your neighbors some ear plugs and rock it out!!!!
If you aren't worried about getting them back up off of the pad just go to autozone and get the glue used for car carpeting. I used the same stuff for all kinds of small projects and it never fails.
