This is actually 2 rants. The first is a copy of my rant that I sent to EA technical support through there response system.
Thank you for sending me my new guitar, this one is broken in a different way and I must say it is a nice change from the way the last one was broken. This one was fouled out of the box and I congratulate you spending over a month to send me a broken replacement.
I'll have you know that I paid almost 200$ for this Rock Band set up and had to (after just a day) RMA my guitar for a busted strum bar. The one you send me (over a month later) has a broken tilt sensor. I will commend your customer service as it has been responsive and stellar. I wish I could say the same thing for your product which has been spectacularly underwhelming.
I got a 20% coupon for your EA online store for my wait. Perhaps you could recommend something that won't be broken out of the box. I will definitely think twice before buying another EA product, especially if it has a hardware peripheral. Your quality control is abysmal. The fact that you are having to eat the cost of these replacements should tell you sufficiently that you have failed with this particular item and it needs a complete redesign before being released separately. Until that time you will be sadly without my business, at least as far as the Harmonix imprimatur is concerned.
Thank you for taking the time to read this. I work in customer service myself and know these are not pleasurable to take. Please understand, I am not angry. Rather I feel betrayed and disappointed. Your first outing with Harmonix has done a lot to damage my faith in the brand and the product. I hope this will be remedied.
Perhaps someone with the ability to implement these changes my accidentally see this.
I started m RMA DEC. 9th and just got my guitar replacement (1/14/08). Oh, and the tilt sensor doesn't work on this one. I think when you look at RB and GH 3, you can tell which company made the game and which made the hardware. They'll never be as good apart as they were together. Can't Activision buy Harmonix or EA get Red Octane? Together again, please. That way I can have a great game and peripherals that actually work!
NOTE: I did get a 20% off coupon for the EA online store for my long wait time. Also, my mic works and the drums haven't broken yet, but I'm not done with the career mode yet. Why? Why? Why? For the love of Pete, do a little better QC and go back to the drawing board for the individual peripherals.
Admit it, Red Octane has a lot of patents on the physical design and the specific switch in the GH guitar. It works really good. Now since HMX has to go make something different, their first attempt is terrible.
I hope these are just growing pains and not the sign of designs to come. The stratoclone just can't stand up to the accuracy of the GH3 LP (try playing on expert and see what I mean).
I'm not a shill, I use my GH3 guitar to play RB, sort of best of both worlds (thank god I have a 360, PS3 owners are getting up the butt with no reach around). It would take a lot of convincing to get me to buy anymore Harmonix peripherals. You guys have squandered a lot of the goodwill I bore this company and its creations. I gave you 200$ because I believed in you and you insist on making this thing so damned hard to enjoy.
Single players get half a game (no BWT for solo) and peripherals of questionable quality. I earned the right to rant and I am doing it here. I was thinking of PMing this to someone important but I don't know who and I'm not sure it would matter. I'm definitely not RMAing again, that was a nightmare (I didn't use the express and I'll be damned if I will. After paying 200$ for this set up I shouldn't have to let EA hold another 125$ while they fix what shoudln't have broken in the first place).
I sadly cannot recommend RB to others with the hardware in its current state. Shape up HMX, RB 2 is not getting my preorder as of now. Or will there even be RB 2? Will we have the same spotty hardware and a decade of downloadable content (for which I will need to buy a bigger hard drive for my 360)? Ye gods I hope not.
I hope someone who cares and can actually make changes reads this. I find that the two rarely coexist in the same individual.

This is exactly why that when/if any of my RB controllers fail, the whole bundle goes back to Wal-Mart for a complete exchange. I'm not sure why so many opted for the RMA method, when most stores that are NOT named Gamestop or EB Games will gladly exchange bundles with you no matter what some yellow sticker, or pink piece of paper says. Hell, I've even heard stories of people getting to switch out ONLY what they needed because they were polite to the customer service reps at Target.
You can bet your arse that when the new drums and guitars come out later this year(You know Harmonix/EA will revise them and make them better when the standalones hit)I will buy them and put my old drums/Strat back in the box and get a refund. They stuck it to so many customers, so now it's OUR turn to frustrate THEM. Sorry for your troubles man. I hope things get resolved for you quickly, and you actually get to play the game instead of look at tracking numbers and delivery dates.

You wont be frustrating EA, instead you'll be pissing off the next customer that buys the crap you shoved into a box that will be placed back on store shelves. If/when a working revision of peripherals come out, please use the RMA process to avoid screwing over the next guy, unless the store lets you do another exchange and understands the item you are returning is broken. I wouldnt worry about the warranty date if/when the revised peripherals are released. I'm sure EA will grant all exchanges to avoid a class action suit.
To the OP, I feel your pain, but since you work in customer service you should know sarcasm gets you nowhere. At least that's what I've witnessed. *****fests are tough to take, but usually get results. The wiseasses are the ones that usually get ignored.

I'm with you OP.
My guitar never worked out of the box. DOA. So I never had a working RB guitar. Looks nice sitting in the corner of my game room though. Unfortunately I didn't buy RB for ornamentation.
I'm still without a guitar over the last 6 weeks and I was willing to let them put a hold on my credit card. Being Canadian was the first problem. Now I'm not sure what the second problem is since EA has said all teh Canadian RMA's have shipped and will arrive by today. Mine still hasn't.
So go ahead and rant at EA. They've disappointed many of us and with little compensation (i've not been offered anything but the satisfaction knowing I don't have to send back my bricked guitar). So I get to keep my expensive fake guitar ornament. Nice for me ><.

What kind of technical support did you guys receive? I filled out their online forms and allowed them to place a hold on my credit card, so that I can receive my guitar in 2 days - that was last week. I still have not received my new guitar, nor a box to send my old one back in. Furthermore, I cannot seem to find a phone number. All EA has on their website is a messaging system to send in questions through. I guess they got sick of people calling in their complaints?

What kind of technical support did I receive? Well to be honest, I've received no technical support. I've received a lot of shameless lies and misdirectioins. I've received empty promises. But technical support? None of that so far.
Hope you fair better than I (week 6 and counting).
