I just saw the list of the first 16 songs and here are my thoughts:
(Don't Fear) The Reaper" Blue ึyster Cult
We all know they just put this song on there for the cowbell! It's not even one of boc's top 5 best songs and it will be boring as heck to play.
Enter Sandman Metallica
I love me some older Metallica, but this is when they went wimpy and sold out! Isn't everyone sick of this song by now?
Go with the Flow Queens of the Stone Age
Haven't heard this song yet but I like everything they put out.
In Bloom Nirvana
Nirvana is the most overated band ever and this song is average at best!
Learn To Fly Foo Fighters
Boring! Dave Grohl is a great musician, but "all my life" is by far a better song.
Main Offender The Hives
These kind of crap bands being on here are the reason I hated seeing MTV getting involved. Terrible choice!
Mississippi Queen Mountain
Great classic song that will be fun to play.
Paranoid Black Sabbath
Anything by BS would work for me. Awesome!
Reptilia The Strokes
More stupid MTV crap!
Rockaway Beach The Ramones
Never got the whole "The Ramones" thing. I can live with this though.
Say It Ain't So Weezer
I like this song but I bet it will get old quick.
Suffragette City David Bowie
Not the worst song on here but nothing to get excited about.
Tom Sawyer Rush
Rush is one of my favs but this song's been done to death and I'm sick of it! Out of all the killer songs by this band why not choose something less used.
Vasoline Stone Temple Pilots
Love this song and can't wait to sing it on the game. STP rules!
Wanted Dead or Alive Bon Jovi
Used to love them back in "the day". It will be fun to play.
Won't Get Fooled Again The Who
Never have liked "The Who" but I know alot of people love them so I can understand this one.
Anyway, I loved the previous GH games and this RB has tons of potential but I hope they don't let MTV ruin it and come up with better quality songs than the ones I've seen so far.

I think you need to take a step back, and listen to all the songs. Especailly all the ones you dislike, which is the majority of them. Even if they are "overated" or have to do with MTV, you shouldn't just sign them off as being bad.
I have to disagree with you on most of what you said, these first 16 songs are almost perfect, I wouldn't really change a thing, they are all great songs, and will be a lot of fun to play. I do agree Don't Fear the Reaper seems a little dull to play, but I've heard that it is actually quite the opposite. I trust Harmonix in their decisions, I've been pleased with every other game they have put out, and I doubt this game will be any different.
I don't think MTV has much to do with the song selection either, besides helping to get bands that would otherwise be near impossible to get (ex: Metallica), and helping to get a lot more songs than Harmonix ever could on their own, and almost all master tracks at that.

Two things-
Though I disagree with virtually all of your comments I would like to point out that (Don't Fear) The Reaper is awesome to play. It is fun.
Also this thread is in the wrong forum.

If you're expecting much better quality songs than what we're seeing, then I would love you know what songs you're hoping for. You have to have a pretty weird taste in music if you don't consider Wanted Dead Or Alive, Won't Get Fooled Again, and (Don't Fear) The Reaper to all be top notch quality songs.
And I'd love to hear why The Hives and The Strokes are "MTV crap." It's not like we're seeing Fallout Boy and Avril Lavigne on the list of songs. Lighten up.

I really think any rock song that is great played live will make a great addition to the game and In Bloom is arguably Nirvana's best live song other than perhaps Smells like Teen Spirit. So it was a fantastic choice. Feel the Reaper I have never heard live but I love the song so I'm looking forward to it very much.
soontobervocalist you will love Go with the Flow by QOTSA. It is the standout track off their awesome second album Songs for the Deaf.

The incredible wit simply blew me away. I was just amazed at how clever it was. Clearly you are a genius. And signing your name at the end of was simply the icing on the cake.

In bloom wasn't their best live song. And in fact Kurt hated doing teen spirit because that's all most people knew them for, although when he DID actually perform it to the max it was always great.
I'd give that title to school or breed, or all apologies. Listen to the Roma bootleg and you'll see what I mean. Theres just no contest. Territorial pissings was a crowd shaker too.

WOW. Well what the hell do you want?
IMO, those are some great songs. In Bloom, (Don't Fear) The Reaper, Tom Sawyer, Enter Sandman, Paranoid, and Won't Get Fooled Again are some great songs. The other songs I haven't heard, but I like the Ramones, STP, and FF. (Actually I have heard the Bon Jovi song, but I don't care for it). I'm sure the other songs will be just fine with me too.

I agree with the Strokes and Hives comments .... their sound it's not bad, but it's not good either. My main disappointment with this list is David Bowie. Come on guys, go back to the studio and record some decent drums !!! I could get a better sound than that with my FRY PANS !!! I don't care if the original was crappy and some people like to remember it the way it was. Anyway, I'll be too busy playing Enter Sandman's drums over and over again, so I don't care.

Vichnaiev,
Remember that this game is always going to be attempting to balance a group dynamic but will not always be able to. Some songs, Suffragette City for example, may not have great drums but the guitar and bass tracks are great. There's no need to re-record it and I would much rather keep the master tracks on as many of these songs as is possible. There are going to be better songs for the drums where the guitar and bass tracks may not be up to snuff. That's the beauty of Harmonix, they always get a good balance in everything they do.

I did not say the drums are not good. They are ok, what I saying is that it SOUNDS awful. You don't need to change the rythm, the notes, anything, just the sound of it, imo the original was poorly recorded. Not sure if because the drummer really sucked or because of technical limitations.
