My 3 week drum instructor once told me that "two bass drum pedals aren't necessary to make a decent rythm." I know this to be true, but he was a funk drummer. funk requires a lot of usage of open and closed hi hats. So he defeated his own statement in a way, because half of the rythms he played involved two pedals to begin with.

So, two pedals could be used on a drum peripheral to simulate both open / closed hi hats, and also double bass. I saw another thread about double bass in here somewhere, but I didn't catch any part that talked about opened and closed hi hats. For those of you who have heard Tom Sawyer already in your life, you'll notice that the opening drum licks involved an open and closed hi hat pattern.

There's no way they can go wrong with such a function on their peripheral, so does anyone know if they've considered this, or have already done it? Let me know. and I'm sorry if I seem like a non-search button user, but it's so hard to find specific information in a forum this large, with so many of the same words.

I never even thought of using the hi hat pedal as a bass pedal, but that would be a great idea. Or even if during the free form fills section it became a double bass. That would truly rock

There are techniques to perform the double bass sound using only one pedal, I guess we gotta learn them if we want to 5* the last tiers of the game (usually some really fast metal).

:sigh: The double bass has been covered time and time again. There are real life single bass pedals that have 2 heads on them. So, in-game, if it requires double bass in some part of the song, you hit the pedal once, and you'll hear 2 kicks, thus double bass.

Now, the drum "controller" is supposed to be simple, much like the guitar controller obviously doesn't have strings and 40 something frets or whatever.

They don't have cymbals on this controller, it is NOT a drum set. In-game will already control the sounds you make. You hit a pad, and it'll either be designated to sound like an open or closed snare.

You will NEVER have cymbals, or a 2nd pedal. We'll all just have to live with it.

Is this official ?? Not doubting you, just wanted to make sure it's no pure speculation. I can see that happening in easy/normal/hard, but what about expert ?

Well, as of now, none of the songs that have been announced include double bass in them. But with the "bunch of Metallica" coming our way. It's only assumed that this would be the way they do it. The way it's all set up, I really don't see them adding another pedal.

Besides, I used to be in a band when I was a teenager, our drummer was good, but still not a veteran, it took him forever to get used to double bass pedals.

The average joe cannot perform double bass, this game and it's peripherals are setup to be casual friendly, and not even a real simulation of the instruments. Like I said, it's not like they're putting 6 strings and 40 something frets on these "guitars"

Worst case scenario, they have one note for each double kick beat, but that would be tough.

Sorry for the nitpick, but Tom Sawyer has some double bass in it.

But on topic, when I first heard that they were making a rock band game with a drum controller, I figured they would have two pedals, which could be used for either hi-hat or double bass. But now that I think about it, it would be kinda hard to do that. For example, in Tom Sawyer, there is both hi-hat pedal stuff and double bass, and the game would need to figure out when you hit the second pedal whether it's supposed to be a hi-hat or a bass drum. Also, it would a different symbol for open hi-hat. It could be done, but it would need to be only on expert.

The type of pedal you're talking about is one that doesn't just automatically hit with the second beater. You're thinking of a dual-action pedal. To hit with one beater, you press down with the ball of your foot. To use the second beater, you press down with your heal. Axis makes these pedals, last time I checked. If you don't believe me, watch Thomas lang do some dual-action pedal rythms. You'll see what I mean if you don't know already.

and no, there will not be cymbals. However, say they did give you a second pedal. You could make one type of noise on one pad with it held down, and a different noise on that same pad with it not held down. There could be a solid note denoting that it's hi-hat closed, and a hollow one denoting that it's hi-hat open. It's not as farfetched of an idea as you make it sound.
