i think that it is unfair to us that there is no bass guitar career mode, they say that bass in most songs is to repetetive in a song.... its simple... dont play it but for us that like playing bass i think that they should at least put in songs that have good bass lines, or make the bass lines tougher

Its kind of hard to make bass lines tougher if its a repeated note. Theres not really as much to work with on bass as on guitar and such simply due to lack of chords and normally as people say they're used as an extension of the beat. There will be good bass lines but it doesn't look like there will be enough to constitute an entire career mode. There isn't enough variety. Expert would be like medium or hard on other modes, for people who play expert on Guitar.

yeah, i'm a real life bassist myself and im glad to see it pisses you off as much as it does me. there are plenty of songs they could put in with challenging basslines.

I don't think it's unfair not to have a carreer, but I think they should have followed the GH2 strategy: when the bass is not interesting enough switch to rythm guitar.

I used to be one as well, but still I don't see the point in creating a full game mode such as carreer with 40 songs when only 20 or less are really interesting. That would be BORING. The problem with bass in GH/RB is that one of the most interesting features is the slap and they can't replicate that experience on the game. =/

I would hope for at least a shortened bass career mode. Sure, maybe you can't turn the Ramones into a career-worthy song, but can you really tell me that Geddy Lee (Rush) or John Entwistle (The Who) played "boring" lines. Even if it were only a 10-20 song career, I would love it.

Unfortunately, part of what makes the bass interesting to play is the relationship with the drummer. I'm interested to see how well that translates into the game, especially since a big part of being in the groove is knowing when to play a note slightly early or late, and doing that with the drummer.

i don't even understand how it is career worthy for guitar.

I don't think slap is even that vital to making bass interesting. Most songs that have slap that I enjoy alternate between fingerstyle (which I've heard the strat can emulate well, due to reduced bounce-back) and slap. One example is Aeroplane by the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

If you do want to play it like slap, just use the thumb to downstroke and curl your fingers and pull up to "pop". Of course, it's not like the strum bar is that accurate of pick-style playing either...

The strum bar is very sensitive, I always lose note streaks because I hit it too hard, imagine slapping, it would be 10x worse. Even if it was possible, it wouldn't be as "physical" as slap is, not sure if I can explain it right. It's the same thing as people suggesting that RB should be a Wii exclusive because you don't need any hardware for the drums, you could simply wave your wiimote in the air. It could work, but where's the feeling in that ?? If you don't brake a box full of drumsticks every week you're not actuall playing drums. =) (yeah, I know drummers with good technique don't break their drumsticks, you don't need to tell me that)

Well, one of the pre-E3 hands-on sessions one of the reviewers tried playing finger style, and he said the Harmonix employee saw that and said that their goal was to reduce the bounce in the bar so that it was possible.

But I don't think that emulating slap is really a goal, and isn't actually that feasible. Are there even any announced songs that have slap yet?

That was my point in the first place. ;)

I see. It's an enigma, wrapped in a mystery, wrapped in nougat.

Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.... Nougat

Anyways, back on topic. I too am disappointed by the lack of bass career. I don't play, as I don't have one, but I love bass and even "boring" bass songs like "18 and Life" are lots of fun to play for me. However, that being said just make bass a "mini-career" with songs like "Won't Get Fooled Again" and "Tom Sawyer". Those basslines will be anything but boring.

P.S. one of the most fun songs in GH:E Rock the 80s is "The Warrior" bass track on expert. I can play that for hours on end and not get bored
