I changed to Dolby Digital today and I started having problems with lag. When I went in to calibrate the 'click' only sounds 3 times then I hear a faint echo of it. When I turned Dolby off it still doesn't work. 3 clicks then faint. I don't remember what my lag was before and now I can't set it. Any ideas?

when you click on calibrate choose your tv type to get it back to how it was prior to turning on dolby. One of my friends was complaining that the timing was off last night and I call him crazy but went to set the calibration anyway. Tried to set it and it ended up just making it 100x worse, reset it to CRT tv and it was back to normal

Now if I turn dolby on I get the clicks, but the game won't calibrate right. If I turn dolby off I only get 3 clicks. :(

I initially had that problem too, and the issue was my surround receiver. Most of those (especially when you're using an optical input) have a power save feature that effectively shuts off the sound when there's nothing being input. So between clicks, it shuts off, and the one click is too fast to turn it back on again.

What I saw on the display of my receiver was that it kept flashing between 'Video 2' and 'Digital 3/2.1' when each click was supposed to happen, but I didn't hear any sound.

I ended up switching inputs to the one called SA-CD/DVD and now I don't have that problem anymore. I guess the power-saving feature is different for that input, even though it's also optical (fiber).

i know this is a super old thread, but i wanted to share a tip i figured out that fixed my rock band 1 sync problems for rock band 2.

since i route the sound for the xbox through the tv to my receiver, i turned down the receiver and turned the tv up and was able to hear the clicks and properly sync.

and luckily, since the tv causes the sync problems, not the stereo, once i turned the stereo back up, it worked perfect. if you have the same setup (bunch of hdmi and digital audio plugged into tv and tv plugged into optical on stereo) this will work for you.

Dammmmm

I've been chasing this problem for two weeks on Rock Band 1 and now all day on the drums for Rock Band 2. I guess I should check the forums first next time. :-) Rock on guys and thanks!

I take it back... all seemed ok- using the method above I pulled a high 90s on the first song and called it fixed. Then I went into freestyle mode and turned the metronome on. ARGGGGG. There goes the rest of my day. Here's what I've tried so far.

Original setup: Xbox via HDMI into TV- TOSLINK out to receiver. No luck with many, MANY calibration attempts. I can get close, but when things get above hard and into expert notes start dropping (and I know I'm not that rusty that I can't hold down the chunka chunkas on "Eye of the tiger". I've seen a lot of 97%s and the like, with things going along fine in expert and then a sudden series of glitches for no good reason. Seems like there's calibration drift going on somewhere.

After the tip about the tv to receiver link introducing lag, I turned up the volume on the TV and the receiver with the metronome on and yup, the clicks were slap-backing each other. I then went to the next setup

Setup 2 rewired with the xbox into the receiver via component output, toslink from xbox to receiver directly. component out from receiver to monitor. And the problems continue.

The only stable calibration I've gotten is going Xbox to TV only, using its crappy built in speakers. Ahem, I'd sure like to use my 5.1 system y'know. Anyone have any insight? I cannot get rockband 1 OR 2 calibrated at all.

Thanks!

My brother also had this strange problem with his sound receiver... no clicks whatsoever
