I was reading the Band Wanted section of the forum and a thought popped in my head, will RB online allow guests to play?

Can I have a guest w/o XBL?
ex. aBabyPenguin90 and aBabyPenguin90(1)

or can I have a guest that does have XBL?
ex. aBabyPenguin90 and Venom127984

or no guest at all:(

See my older brother doesn't really like to play games online, but if my band needs a person to fill in temporarily, my brother and I would like to play on just one console.

I really hope they allow guests to play online even without XBL, because I can tell you of the half dozen or so people that will be coming over to my house to play this regularly, only one of them has XBL besides me. If you're telling me we all have to pay $50/month on top of the cost of RB to play online, I'll be quite annoyed. As long as one player has Live you should be good to go, IMO.

Microsoft makes all its sales in its online strategy, next to nothing in console sales, so I would assume that XBL is required to play any online games.

I don't have my Xbox 360 connected as I'm moving from one home to another, but I'd suggest trying to play Bomberman Live with a Gold membership on player one and see if a guest account would work on player two. If player two isn't allowed into the online arena, that's your best bet at knowing how the online structure works.

Besides, with Target's recent price drop announcement for Xbox 360's, it's about time your friends owned the console. :)

Honestly, having an account isn't all that bad. For the cost of one game, you have new life for nearly every single game you own. At first, I hated the idea. When I subscribed, it was worth it.

Well, that's different. In that case, the game Bomberman must be downloaded to be played and when it is, it is licensed specifically to the Gamertag it was downloaded with.

XBL Silver is free, so you don't need to pay any fee to play online.

Since this is meant to be a group game, I expect that it will be like Halo 2, where guests can play, but any functionality that requires unique gamer tags was disabled (couldn't play ranked matches).

As for RockBand, they've emphasized in past interviews that it will support any combination of local and online players, so I would assume that includes support for online guests.

They said before that you will be able to use any combination of online or offline players so Im going to go out on a limb and say you can. Much like Halo's matchmaking dealie, get 3 players and it'll match you up with the 1 you're missing.

$50 a month? Jesus christ Xbox live is a rip-off.

And if you have people coming over to play. Don't play online. It's simple.

This is true. They have stated that you can do a mixture of online and offline players. So what would happen is, you yourself have to have XBL, your brother would be "player 2" on your system, and you go into online mode together to get whoever else to play with you.

Hope that makes sense.

It's not $50 a month, it's $50 a year, which is well worth it. He pulled that out of his ass I guess.

Yeah i was gonna say... not even close. who expects to pay 600 bucks a year for that? Internet is cheaper than 50 a month. I'm getting a 360 and xbox live for sure.

Some people overreact with the $50 bucks needed for a 12month subscription for XBL. But it's worth it if you play enough. MMO's on PC's cost anywhere from $10-15 a month, which adds up to be much more!

Also to note: Someone stated earlier in this thread that you can have a Silver XBL membership which is in fact free, but you cannot play online. You need to subscribe to a XBL GOLD membership to be able to play online.

I see, I was unaware of that. Kinda disappointing, but I guess it makes sense.

In the end, though, $50/year isn't too much. It does mean that requiring guests to have gamertags would suck, though.

Yea I don't know how the whole guest situation works. I've never done that before.

I don't think you have to do the whole "guest thing"

I think people overlooked this post because I posted right after it onto the 2nd page.

But I think this is the best way to explain it ^^

Simply put I think that for combinations of online/offline players they will not be ranked, like halo, whereas one person local online will be ranked. But it will support the gameplay just for fun. That's my thoughts.

That's my thoughts.I'm not sure Halo is a valid comparison, because in Halo you're playing against other people, which means online/offline combinations can be used to abuse the system. Whereas in RockBand, you're playing co-operatively, and you either hit the right notes or not, and therefore there is no way to abuse the system - so I can't see why online/offline combinations would be excluded from ranking.
