View Full Version : USB ports for instruments?

Will the instruments be plugged to our consoles to USB ports? If so, will the instruments be able to play on both PS3 and 360? I'm not too keen on wireless lag, and Bluetooth hasn't been very reliable to me lately.

I ask this because I plan on getting the drums for this, and I have friends with different consoles, and if I play in their respective homes, I don't want to have to need two different types of drumsets because A) that would be expensive and B) I don't have room for two different drumsets in my house.

It would be nice to have just one universal drumset that I can use for all systems. Please say this is so, Harmonix!

Has there EVER been a console accessory that was universal between competing machines? Two different machines equal two different hardware specs. The buttons have different maps etc.

I gotta agree...I would be hard pressed to be convinced that there will be a controller that is universal between the two systems. First off...its just not good business for XBOX, second off...button mapping.

Although it does raise another question...with 4 controllers potentially being used at the same time on the system...and only 2 ports on your console...how can you play all 4. Are we to assume that some if not all are wireless?

this has been asked before, and there are three usb ports on the xbox, and four on the PS3. the two guitars and the drums are connected by USB to the XBOX360, then the mic is connected to the controller just like a regular headset you would use to play halo or gears of war. there you go, four players.

Or you could use a USB hub and just connect to one USB port on the machine.

but alot of people (including me) use that for a wireless networking adaptor

I remember reading a completely unsubstantiated rumor that the drums would have a built-in USB hub. IDK whether it is true or not, but would be a fantastic idea IMO.

As far as i know, Strat is wireless

You can use your X-plorer for bass

The drums are wired

The mic connects to the headset port on your Controller, so as long as you have a Wireless one, you're ok. If you don't, then connect it to the one in the back.

There, all done :D Hope that helped

i thought that too and if you watch the E3 video when they play with peter moore it looks like they are all connected to the drums

That's odd, because I've heard unconfirmed for pretty much everything you've said...

I gotta agree...I would be hard pressed to be convinced that there will be a controller that is universal between the two systems. First off...its just not good business for XBOX, second off...button mapping.Actually, for people who would rather support the PS3, this WOULD be good business for the XBox. Take me, for example. If I can only choose to buy one drumset for one console, it would be for the PS3. I have more friends with PS3s, and I'd rather not see that system fall behind. So, that is one game that is not being sold for the 360. If the drumset was universal, then I'd have two versions of the game. One for the PS3, and one for the 360, (because I also have friends with only 360s, just not as many as those with only PS3s.) I own both, btw.

About button mapping. That is not an issue with USB ports, as they can pretty much be programmed to allow a simple switch with a push of a button or slide.

That's why it would be better for you to invest in a PS3? lol. It's just a suggestion. But I wholeheartedly believe that you'll get more out of your money with a PS3 than a 360 in the long run.

But let's not make this into a console war thread. I know I opened my mouth about this, but I'll end it here. If anyone wants to argue that they like a certain console over another, I won't reply to it.

And that issue has been addressed by another member in this thread anyway.

I think a USB hub would be your best bet. I think the drums having a usb hub would be AWESOME! I think that the strats could be offered as wired or wireless.

>>edit, I just noticed I started all 3 of my sentences with "I think" lol
