I moved my Rock Band save data over from my HDD to a brand-new 360 memory card to take over to a friend's house. I tried to move it over to his console there, but it said I couldn't without being logged into my gamertag.
I hadn't copied my gamertag onto the memory card, so I tried to recover it on his console, but Live was being uncooperative, so we just gave up on that.
But then when I went home and plugged the memory card into my machine again... my Rock Band data wasn't on the memory card any more! And it's not on my friend's HDD either.
I just lost all my characters and bands! :(

No offense, but why wouldnt you have just copied the save instead of just moving it??

try signing in to xbl with your gamertag

It wouldn't allow me to. Probably, in hindsight, because I didn't have my gamertag copied on the memory card.
But the information should not simply have disappeared off the card, is what the point is.

Thats true, I'm sorry that happend buddy. Try coolaunts advice and sign on your gamertag into the game and try it with the memory card....

I agree with the signing in under your profile. Once, I took my HDD and memory card over to my brother's to play. I copied my profile onto the memory card and moved it over to my brother's HDD. When I tried to look for my rock band data on my HDD I couldn't find it. Once I moved my profile back over to my HDD it was all there intact.

So I should try signing in on my profile over on his machine?

It shouldn't matter what 360 you're on, just sign in on yours or his and then check your memory card for your rock band data.

Well that's what I said before - when I signed into my profile back on my 360, there wasn't any Rock Band information on the memory card.

The only other thing I can suggest is maybe putting your gamer profile on your memory card. I don't see this really doing anything, but in my situation the only reason I wasn't seeing my data on my HDD was because my profile wasn't on my HDD. So in theory, maybe if you put your profile on your memory card maybe you'll be able to see your saved data... Hope this helps man.

Okay, whatever is going on is more than just an isolated thing. I don't know what it is, but it needs to be investigated, because something is causing my Rock Band data to be deleted.
I just confirmed this today because I went and got my profile on my friend's 360 console and HDD, and I didn't have any Rock Band info saved there.
AND
When I recovered my profile again just now on my own machine, the new Rock Band data I had created since losing my original stuff.... IS ALSO GONE.
And I hadn't put that data on a memory card or anything. All I did was take my gamertag profile from my HDD onto the memory card to put on my friend's machine, then I recovered my gamertag on my own machine.
This should not delete my Rock Band information. But it did.
This has to be some sort of bug, some sort of glitch that was never caught because it simply was something they couldn't have thought of to test for. There's no way user error deleted my Rock Band information a second time, not when I didn't even do anything with it.

Not sure how you moved the information onto a memory card because it doesn't allow you to move your rock band save.
However, the recovering thing is a prime reason why everyone should have thier profiles on memory cards, its much easier to bring the card over with your profile on it rather than recovering it all the time.

Just throw some gas on it and light a match!

If it doesn't allow you to move your rock band save, then explain to me how exactly I had it on the memory card, hmm?

I cannot offer you my advice, only my condolences. If this happened to me, I would cry like a small child.

Well like I originally said I'm not sure how you did it. It doesn't allow me or my friends to move our saves. So I don't know how you got it on your memory card.
