I have a RIGHT to be moody and depressed at times, and yet I don't go around moping about life 24/7, it's stupidly laughable that they feel that their life sucks that much... when there are people who have medical conditions that outright make them depressed over simple comments, and even they don't get that down about stuff...)

For the record I have a hormonal imbalance and suffer from depression, phobia, and hyperventilation syndrome. I even attempted suicide twice and ran away. Hell I'm nu-goth. But even I know logic and the majority of emos are the ones trivializing.

'tis true, Mummy wont go out and buy them a new iPod as their one's broken... so they whine to everyone who'll listen. Or they don't get the exact present they wanted for Christmas, and so ***** about it. Not caring about what the parents may have even gone through to get it initially.

What annoys me most about them, is the fact that they all have "depression" apparently, and it's effing trivialising it... I now point out at work that I suffer from depression, and all I get is the boss saying "You think nobody else gets depressed?" Yes, I DO think other people get depressed, but there's a difference between someone getting depressed through something big happening, and someone who suffers from depression because it's a mental condition.

I also remember that when I was claiming Job Seeker's Allowance, they attempted to ban me from getting it as I refused to take anti-depressants... I refuse to take ANY drugs of ANY kind (Exceptions being Hayfever pills, as I can't function due to being that bad in the summer, even with them I feel like ****, and the other exception is my migraine pills, which I only take if I need to be in work that day, otherwise I go to bed and sleep it off). They stated that by refusing, I was thereby "refusing to look for work".

Yet despite **** like that, I'm happier than these smeg heads who walk around like their life sucks... yet during the holidays it's not like their parents are locking them in their rooms, and in actual fact, most of 'em spend longer out than I ever did at their age (I'm 24... and I'm saying stuff like that... I'm getting old).

My parents. Let's see. My mom is a drunkard drug-addict, every one of her friends are too. Her boyfriend is a drug dealer. He said if I came home drunk/high/anything, he'll cover for me, (which is cool, but what kind of example is he setting?) My dad is a total rage-addict. He gets mad at any little thing that seems out of order. And a lot of things are out of order because he has OCD. So isnt happy much at all. My brother has ADD, ADHD. Any illness that makes you completely hyper, incoherent, annoying, etc.

I couldnt be happier. I just always think to myself. "I make my own money, I can buy my own stuff. I have friends, some do drugs and drink, I'm smart enough to avoid it. My other friends share the same interests as I do. I go to a decent school. I get food in my stomach. I buy my own stuff, I feel like I am an adult."

Emos, they complain "My parents dont buy me the new computer I've asked for for a whole three days!!" "My parents are the worst parents on the planet! I'm going to cut myself to eas the PAIN!"

and very true Xzy, that's one thing I don't get from Emo's... most "true" depressed people will actually do everything they can to be cheerful whenever they can... whereas they do it opposite, they deliberately listen to depressing music, deliberately hurt themselves to feel "better", some of them spend so much time *****ing about what's "wrong" that it's all they can think about...

It's like thir entire lives revolve around making damned sure they feel like crap, yet us who are depressed try whatever we can to be happy... my saviour tends to be good comedy :).

Without going into detail, suffice to say that life hasn't been easy for me either. But I can't go around *****ing and moaning about some ***** leaving me "so now my life is over" or "I can't take it anymore because no one understands me".

Personally, I don't shun or ostracize someone because of how they look or act. I try to talk to that person and understand what they might be going through that makes them think there is no hope.

Being depressed isn't a fashion trend that you can toss aside when the next big thing comes around. All the people who would be considered "emo" that I've talked to are usually pretty happy people, they just happen to dress in a way that makes people associate them with the "attitude" of emos, rather than just acknowledging it as a fashion trend.

I think that the artists out there writing the shi*ty music that is depressing are responsible for associating the "attitude" with the trend. Fake ass music coupled with horrendous clothing... It's been done before and it'll be done again. The sad thing is that part of the act is pretending like your life is miserable.

Kinda makes it hard if your life really is miserable and no one will reach out to you. Just keep an open mind when you're dealing with teenagers, they tend to be incomprehensibly dumb about the real world.

Unfortunately... last time I tried helping a gal who was like that... I ended up with her family attempting to get me arrested for being a paedophile, because... y'know, "nobody" helps someone without wanting something else in return... wtf?

Although I'll be honest... round here it's just kids as a whole... there's 4 types of kids in our area...

1 - Rare to find, these are the honest ones who want to help (so rare that I'm yet to meet one)

2 - Emo's, not all over the place, but have this tendancy of moving in swarms too... surely it's hard to "have a crap life" when your parents are letting you go to town by yourself, hang out with your boyfriend and all your mates all day...

3 - Chav's, or, in case any of the American's haven't heard the term, the gits who dress in a shirt, with (normally) tracksuit bottoms, wear a baseball cap, and have "bling" round their necks... (it's a sodding necklace... stop being a girl and give it back to your Mum), normally seen hanging around bus shelters kicking cans/balls/generally being a complete nuisance to anyone and everyone.

4 - Slutty girls, the ones who range in age from like 13 to 20, all they want is to get laid, but they had better damned well get something else out of it too, "something else" tends to be food... because most of them have also spent the money they get for not having a job/from their parents, on weed.

and... that just about sums up every teenager where I live. I'm yet to meet ANY that go against that train of thought.

Have you tried sitting down and nicely talking to her about it? If you have, put your foot down, tell her about actual depression, and make her wear normal clothes, and tell her to get her act together. If she does be nice to her so there is a reward for being good, and a punishment for being bad. What age is she and when did she become emo? If your her father there is a good chance to convert her. The emo fad is horrible, it's a fashion that tells people to be depressed. She'll be 19 in a couple of months. I think she is clinacally depressed but the shrink we sent her to for a while refused to accept it, And likewise convinced her she could get on with life without anti-depressants. We used to figure it was the normal puberty/growing pains bull**** of being a teen, But am convinced it is much worse now.. Like I said, she is about all done growing. She came within inches of dying from a rare disorder affecting her spleen for about two weeks last summer and based on things she blogged about during that crisis we thought she was getting her head straight and was gonna get her **** together. But she moved into her garandparents (neither me or her mom will take her now) and they are effectively enabeling her to reamain a sloth loser with no plan in life. She is always crying about how her Momn hates her and I abandoned her and boo hoo. The fact is she has never faced adversity and has been given every opportunity you could imagine and ahe prefered to piss it all away.

She pisses me off cause I grew up poor.. Real poor. I've been on the streets for real at a couple of points in my life. I never got into any of the stereotypical traps that come with it. I worked hard and then harder to get to where I am. I got a big ass house, a couple of Harleys, SUV and a Caddilac. All the toys you could want.. Earned it all.. She just mooches and whines about how hard her life is and how it everyones fault but her own.

I'm not saying she dreeses emo that much or listenes to nothing but MCR and the like. But she does have the Emo attitude. I've done all that I can and gave up. Some things can only be fixed by the person in question.
