View Full Version : Are you guys really not getting GH3?

Because Rock Band probably isn't going to make us play Miss Murder to beat the game on Expert.

I love both but one can't help but get speculative considering the scenario.
I am getting both. Dammit I'm not that crazy.

I'll be getting GHIII. I really hope the Les Paul works with Rock Band though. I'm counting on buying GH with the guitar and then the Rock Band bundle with one guitar, drumset and mic.

does anybody know if the Strat works with GH III

big deal u have 2 play the song wat 2 times 2 beat the game once on hard once on expert then u never have 2 play the song again

i dont think it does only cuz there is more stuff on the strat..but i could be wrong

I'm undecided on GH3. If I can use the strat on it, then it's probably a sure thing. If not, I'm not so sure because I only want so many guitar controllers hanging around.
Who am I kidding? Unless I hear horrible things about it (which I'm not expecting), I'll probably get it... but sometime after RB.
That said, I don't mind if GH3 does well; I just don't want it to do well at the expense of RB. There's a lot of people that don't really know what's what ("it's so expensive", "it's a knock off of GH", "i don't have three other people to play with all the time"), and they'll go to GH3 by default.

Now I wanna know how different each song will play.
I am gonna get a bud and we'll play Paranoid side-by-side. I am really hyped.

I did plan on getting both. However the GH 3 negatives keep adding up. It's almost hinging on if the unlock all cheat will save at this point,if there's one more emo song then that's probably what it'll come down to. It didn't in the others but that was Harmonix doing.

I really hope Neversoft requests that the Strat work with GH3 (though I'm betting they won't) so I can buy Rock Band and then just get GH3 game only on a newer system.
No way am I putting any money into a guitar controller for GH3. I think it will be a fine game, but I'm not going to get another peripheral for it. If the RB Strat won't work, I hope to use my existing PS2 guitar controllers for GH3 on the PS2.
I see no real advantages with the new guitar controllers coming out for GH3.

All I have is a Wii, and so far RB is hating on the Wii, so if I wanna play some next gen rhythm, GHIII is my only option.

Unless you consider wireless an addition, then nothing is really added to the gh3 controller. I believe you'd be able to use your gh2 controller with gh3, but I'm not positive. (I can't really find any info about it on the 'net right now.) It'd be really horrible and mean-spirited if they made gh3 only work with the gh3 controller for ps2 owners especially.
battle_axe_of_doom
08-02-2007, 06:10 PM
yeah that would blow. was the controller for gh1 compatible with gh2 on the ps2?? if it was then i'm almost positive the gh2 controller should work for gh3 :chinrub:

Buying both. GHIII 'cause it looks more metal than its predecessors, and Rock Band to be able to play with other instruments (although if there was some Neuraxis, Suffocation or Mors Principium Est on Rock Band, I'd probably be satisfied with Rock Band alone ^^)
sa_nick
08-02-2007, 10:42 PM
If I could afford GHIII i'd get it. But Rock Band gets top spot so all my money's going in that.
Also, I dont like a lot of things Neversoft's done with the game, such as VS mode, boss battles and all that crap.

Though RB is first and foremost in my mind, I'll be getting both because
1. They will both be great quality games in their own right
2. When it comes time to discuss the differences about the games and just have general conversations about them with friends, I want to be able to base what I say off of my own experience and what I know to 100% be true.
3. This is an important time for music/rythm games (something I'm a big fan of) in the US and I want to experience it in all its glory so in 10/15 years I can look back and not only remember the boom but have fond, experience-based memories of it.
I may not get GHIII right away (probably play it a pal-e-o's house for a bit) but I will get it in time. I want to be able to devote my time to the RB drums without distractions.

2. Downloadable Albums Big +
3. Playing against HMX Bands Hell Yeah !

Im still planning on getting it, it has a good song list, and I'll need the GH III guitar as my Rock Band bass. I'm still not too happy with the way it looks like Guitar Hero is headed though, this might be my last Guitar Hero purchase.

Wish each other well? Activision has done nothing but talk trash about Rock Band.. As someone else pointed out, At least they have gone from calling HMX (the originators of GH), "imitators" to "potentially competitive."
Activision is ruining the Guitar Hero name with their slimy tactics and bad PR moves.
If you searched through the GH forums you would see I was one of the very first people to say Activision would likely destroy the franchise back when the buy out was announced.

I don't understand all the GH3 hate either.
I'm definitely getting both.
and as much as it pains me to say this, GH3 has a better setlist for my tastes (SO FAR) than Rock Band. then again, rock band is getting insane DLC while we don't know about GH3 outside of GH1/2 songs yet.
I already have 4 gh controllers.. by the end of the year ill have 7

I'm gonna need a bass, but if the Les Paul is as small as the xplorer than the only way I'm getting it is if the Strat works with the game...
The Rock Band set list is far superior for my tastes, and GHIII wont have the bonus bands that I've grown to love...i do want to see what it's got though...
Either way my buddies are buying it so I will get to play it...

I'll be getting GH3 as long as I can use the Strat. Otherwise, screw it. I'm not going to buy another peripheral with fewer features to play a game that has me less excited. I'm sure it will be fun, but I like co-op play more, and RB trounces GH3 on co-op. Especially since you can only do co-op career in GH3, meaning you only unlock songs in co-op for the exact difficulty combination you play the career on, meaning goodbye GH3 parties...

I'll be getting both.
Rock Band because it looks like the coolest party game ever invented, the drums look like a blast, and the setlist is pretty middle-of-the-road so it'll be easier to talk more people into trying it.
Guitar Hero III because there are certain songs that Rock Band can't handle (unless you want your drummer to have a stroke attempting Dragonforce or Slayer with one bass pedal), and sometimes it's fun to just completely shred.
That said, if Guitar Hero wants to survive in future iterations, they should drop everything but crazy fast songs. Everything else would be better in Rock Band. In addition, I really dislike the negative PR that has been coming from the Guitar Hero camp, "boss battles" are just a ridiculous idea, and putting Bret Michaels in the game shoots their rock cred right square in the ass.

Agreed. I don't think the GH2 idea of adding bass had the songs or quickplay to support it, and RB is going to beat them on co-op. There's really no choice but for them to focus on the hardest/fastest guitar solos and competitive play, because nobody's going to buy GH for co-op as long as RB is around.

I was originally gonna get GH3's guitar (not the game) because I despise the idea of VS. mode and boss battles.
Now I MIGHT get it if it's compatible, which Activision/RedOctane looks not to do. Plus call HMX "imitators" "possibly competition" and trashing RB by saying "To get a full experience you need to spend $280! Where in Guitar Hero III, you only need to spend $100 to get our full experience."

I will probably get both. Anyway as for compatibility:
Many on the forum have had questions regarding the new Les Paul controllers and older Guitar Hero titles. Below are some answers.
1. Will the PS3 Les Paul controller work for the older Guitar Hero games (released on PS2)?
We suggest that you keep your PS2 console around as the new Les Paul controller will not have 100% functionality with older GH titles. (ie. star power and hammer on won't work properly). Below is the breakdown for the PS3 Les Paul tested with older PS2 GH titles. Note that the PS3 Les Paul wireless controller will only work on the PS3. The PS2 Kramer Striker wireless guitar will only work on the PS2.
GH1 (PS2) - 100% functionality
GH2 (PS2) - partial functionality
GH Encore (PS2) - partial functionality
2. For Xbox 360, will the X-plorer wired controller work on GH3 and will the Les Paul wireless work on GH2?
The X-plorer will work perfectly fine w/GH3 on Xbox 360. The Les Paul wireless will have 100% compatibility with GH2.

Im getting Guitar Hero III, maybe not right away if the les paul isn't compatible with Rock Band. If it is I'll get the GHIII and Rock Band package and be happy. If not, I will simply wait until Rock Bands release, and get the package and an extra strat before buying GHIII
(This is assuming that the strat works with GHIII, but I believe Sean mentioned that it was their intention to have it that way.)

I dont't have a PS3, but my friend does and plays GH1,2 and 80's edition, with the SG controllers using an adapter.
Why does everyone worry about the extra contoller for GHIII??? Just buy it on whatever console you have guitar hero2 for.. ok..maybe you're screwed with the PS3, but still..
