Nice interview. Nothing huge, but a few nuggets of info.
I'm starting to like the new shape of the notes. At first I thought they were square, but after a closer look, they appear to be little energy-tube-like lines. This should make it a bit easier to view the seperation of notes that are spaced closely together.
IGN: And lastly, these are our five most wanted bands for Rock Band. How happy do you think we'll be when Rock Band ships?
1. The Beatles
2. Led Zeppelin
3. Radiohead
4. Journey
5. The Monkees (well, if we can't have The Beatles...)
LoPiccolo: I can't really divulge any information about unannounced songs or artists, but I can say that you are not going to be either fully satisfied or totally disappointed. =)
Interwebz, start disecting that response imediately.

Nice thanks for posting this, this was a totally awesome and informative interview!
First things first, the last question lists:
1. The Beatles
2. Led Zeppelin
3. Radiohead
4. Journey
5. The Monkees (well, if we can't have The Beatles...)
And "I can't really divulge any information about unannounced songs or artists, but I can say that you are not going to be either fully satisfied or totally disappointed. =)"
To me that means that a few of those are in the game, I'm going to go out on a limb and say that Radiohead is, and possibly Journey, and I pray Zeppelin and the Beatles are, but I have a feeling the Beatles aren't going to be in it, sadly.
They answer the question of the mic stand, there will not be one on initial release, but they plan in the future to possibly have one, which is awesome!
The mic can be used or a headset can be used, and you have to use the controller to navigate.
You can download parts or all of albums released, and they will most likely switch off between groups of single songs and album releases on a weekly basis.
sadly you will not be able to put these songs on your ipod, but I think that was asking a bit too much.
Songs that have extended piano or other instrument sections will not be changed in anyway or made into guitar parts, they are trying to preserve the authenticity of the song.
They have changed the pause button, so no one has to be afraid to pull a peter moore out there, or at least it will harder to be one.
There will be no back up singing, or duets, sadly, but understandably so.
So they answered just about the majority of questions filling up these message boards, which is awesome. Great interview, that was so awesome, I love Rock Band info!

In my crazy way of thinking... I think he is saying Led Zeppelin is gonna be in RB!!!...or not...

I think this whole post should be added to the FAQ.
btw I love that you can buy a single song instead of getting the entire album!

IGN: Speaking of The Who, we know that Who's Next will be the first available DLC for Rock Band. Will you have to purchase the full album, or can you also purchase individual songs?
LoPiccolo: You will be able to purchase individual songs as well as the entire album.
Hopefully this makes some people happy.

That whole interview should be an FAQ, its great, so many answers to all the discussions we have been having since E3!
All we need now is some new song info, maybe a few of those off that top 5 list! :D

Just the chance of Radiohead being in makes me very happy.
Also I highly highly doubt The Monkees are in. So we very well may see a Journey, Beatles, Zeppelin, or Radiohead song in Rock Band.
Good enough for me. I hope its Radiohead and Zeppelin personally.

I noticed something interesting in this screen:
http://media.xbox360.ign.com/media/879/879549/img_4766110.html
The lyrics to (Don't Fear) the Reaper go:
And she ran to him (then they started to fly)
They looked backward and said goodbye
But in the image, you can see that "then they started to fly" is not part of the scored vocal track. So, you will be strictly dependent on your bandmates to supply the backing vocals, and they won't count toward your score.
Eman311
08-03-2007, 01:21 PM
That makes sense obviously, but i would imagine that back up vocal will just play as is from the song. Only the lead singer vocal track is dependent on the singer. get what i mean?
cool info, the last question REALLY excites me, seeing as how all those bands are awesome (except the monkeys lol)

The Monkees and probably The Beatles are the two that I doubt will make it in. Too bad about The Beatles, but it's highly doubtful.

Call me weird, but my favorite bit of info here is that they're not going to alter songs to cut out long snips of piano or keyboards. I LOVE that. so that nice long keyboard bit in the middle of 'Won't get Fooled Again' will stay as is...and I just dig it. It will be so much more real and authentic. Awesome.
thanks for posting...I'll watch the interview first chance I get...

Electric_Zen:
IGN: Since you can use a headset for vocals, is it possible to have duets or background vocals? And is there any specific functionality for this in the game?
LoPiccolo: We don't have any support for background vocals in Rock Band...

But that's what makes it so great. You dont need to have 3 headsets. The other band members just shout it out anyway for fun!

Wait, so the headset they're talking about is the standard Xbox Live headset, right? I thought they said that they wouldn't support the headset as a mic due to its low fidelity or something...
...or are they talking about a different kind of headset?
ababypenguin
08-03-2007, 02:47 PM
even if it was compatible, I wouldn't want to use it. You might as well be using a dual-shock controller to play GH1!

Dunno about the Live headset. I think they meant the fact that any USB mic is compatible.
The Live mic just sounds fugly anyway.

IGN: Are there any other improvements planned for the guitar? Like a notch on the center button so you don't lose your place?
LoPiccolo: We have finished tweaking the final feel of the buttons and strum bar, and we are very happy with how they came out. The center button has a faint pattern on it, as do buttons 1 and 5, to help keep you oriented.
SO happy about that. I know there were some saying that it'd be more awesome if you had no idea where your hands were for authenticity, but not me. And it sounds like it's not gonna impair the look of the guitar much either

Ha. I love it. An announcement that's not specific at all.
I think the response is easy to figure out. Anywhere between one and four of those bands will be in Rock Band when it ships. If I had to choose the most likely one, I'd go for Journey. That seems like it would be easy to license, and it fits right in with the tone of the game too. The music of Journey and Bon Jovi always seemed similar to me for some reason, not sure why.

My favorite part was when the man said that "all but the best drummers will find this easy" or blah blah blah.
So, pretty much anyone except Keith Moon or Neil Peart will find this to be a difficult game when it comes to the drums. I hope these boys is right 'bout what they sez.

no excitement about the cowbell announcement? or did i miss that...

i was ONE of the original members to suggest using a cowbell effect for the microphone along side of a tambourine.......and reading that gave me a warm sense of satisfaction.
well getting back to the interview, i wonder if any of the band members of zep know OF this game at all. i would like to hear jimmy's thoughts on the subject. doesn't he own the master tracks themselves?
he's only produced every single zep record, live recording, and remastered disc humanly available.....

Also fits in with my disagreement that they will not have every drum beat represented in expert. THEY WILL represent every beat in expert, if they do want to make it authentic. GOOD :)

I figured that the drums on medium and easy difficulties would be boring, so I told my brother that I would play the drums on hard right out of the box. I think I may have changed my mind now. :)

Yeah, thats a great option. I also like that they're not only releasing full albums. They'll be releasing collections of songs. Definitely nice to have multiple choices.
