Is absolutely FRIGGIN IMPOSSIBLE to sing on expert. I always die at 85%... the best I ever did was 86%

All those quick little high pitched screams that you have to NAIL!!!

Anyone else have a lot of trouble with this one... maybe some suggestions.

I even tried turning up my mic really loud and hold it up to the speakers. Apparently, the game is no better at singing than I am.

could be the rockband mic not being responsive enough.

expert singing on RB is one of my biggest complaints. Its totally unrealistic. In order to do it well, you cant actually sing, you have to do all these tricks like starting the note early, singing like a pitch robot, etc. If you were to have somebody listen to me sing the way I have to sing on expert and on medium, they would 100% of the time say I sang better on medium. Medium or hard, if you know the song, you can just go for it.

The only good thing is that I mainly play this game in multiplayer quickplay, so I can just have fun and sing my butt off on medium or hard.

I'm gonna have to disagree with your "absolutely impossible" logic. And here's why:

<object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/Dw_B7xv92F8&rel=1"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/Dw_B7xv92F8&rel=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object>

You do realize that you can sing those high-pitched parts an octave lower, right? That would probably put it a little better into your vocal range. Hell, you could do it 2 octaves lower if you wanted to. As long as you're hitting the right note (A, B, C, C#, etc.), the game doesn't care in which octave you're singing.

The vocal Tutorial tries to explain this as well.

You should check out any of TdChewy's vids, he's the singer from my band... you don't have to sing like crap to do well on expert ;) well at least some of us don't... I suck at it :D

That's roughly how I sing on expert (although he's probably better at it than me). My point isn't that its unlistenable, or even very bad, but that it doesn't sound GREAT. There comes a point where better singing HURTS you. By better singing I mean a slight tremolo where appropriate and some actual passion in the voice. Also, there definitely seems to be something with the mic where the louder you sing the more unresponsive it is. Like it distorts too easily or something.

That's why mic sensitivity is adjustable ;)

Exactly. That's not a problem specific to the RB mic. It happens with ANY mic if you overload it. It's called "clipping" and it happens to every microphone.

I'm talking above what you can do with mic sensitivity. Basically there are two places where the mic could distort, in the actual mic and if the mic's input is too much for the game, then the game could distort. the mic sensitivity is a setting on the game. It can keep the input from the mic from distorting the game. I think that the device in the actual mic distorts at times also though, which causes it to be less repsonsive. All microphones have a certain responsiveness. Its basically the mics ability to respond to frequency changes. Typically (though not always the case, but that's a whole different discussion) the better the mic, the more responsive it is at high volumes. I think that at high volumes the rockband mic has really really poor responsiveness. That is, it can't quickly output the exact frequency the singer is singing. You notice it on your friend's recording even. notice how it sometimes takes a second for the triangle to settle on what he's singing, although it sure sounds like he's been singing that same note the whole time. The louder you sing the greater this effect is, to the point where it takes long enough to "settle" that you miss some phrases if there are a lot of quick pitch changes, even though you sang them all in perfect pitch.

I've yet to see somebody really sing balls to the wall on expert and pass a song that's remotely difficult. It's the same very controlled quiet voice that, IRL, would get you booed off of a stage. I'm tempted to try to sync up a part where only the singer is singing during a particular song, play it synced up with my ipod and then hold the mic up to the speaker for that part and see if the actual recording can pass.

Again, its just a minor quibble though.

It would be really hard to sing every song nicely for real at Expert, since there is such a wide range of singers in the game. I'm a girl, obviously it would be quite weird if I could nail Enter Sandman sounding like the original. If I really try I can sound decent on some songs, but otherwise I think it's a call between what you want to get out of the game.

If you can sing and want to sing the songs with some vocal personality, sing on Hard instead of Expert. Right or wrong, at Expert, it's more about getting the points that is actually sounding good enough to not get thrown out of a bar.

I can sing Long Time with a good deal of passion and do very well (almost 100&#37; up until the ending). With practice, I could probably get that too, I just don't know it very well since when I listen to the song (outside of RB) those vocals are masked by the instruments.

:P

the song isnt impossible, considering my girlfriend can also beat this song on 95% or better on expert...but i can barely beat it on hard :(
