View Full Version : The Beatles in Rock Band: How It Can Happen

Let's face it, The Beatles will be a very hard license to get it. Still, there's no reason Rock Band should go Beatle-less. If it comes down to it they can always do the Van Halen trick. For anyone who doesn't know, Harmonix couldn't get the license to a Van Halen song (edit: for Guitar Hero II) so they went and got the rights to 'You Really Got Me', a Kinks song covered by VH on their debut album.
All Harmonix need to do is get in touch with the estate of Phil Medley and Bert Russell. You may not know the names but they're the writer's of a little song called "Twist And Shout". Get the rights, give it to your in-house band, give her a little "as performed by" tag and we've got The Beatles in Rock Band!

Wow. How did you think of this?

that's GENIUS!! But Twist and Shout isn't really my favorite Beatles song... although, it is a lot better than Yellow Submarine, or Octopuses Garden, or any song by Ringo.

Come on. Yellow Submarine is a great song.

Yellow Submarine wasn't written by Ringo, he just sings it.
Anyway, you never hear The Beatles master tracks in anything other than the radio, so it's highly doubtful.

Search for Cheap Trick. They did an awesome cover of Magical Mystery Tour.

Which is why I suggested Twist And Shout. It's a song that's synonymous with The Beatles but not actually written by them, so they can't say no.

Really? That's just too good, I have to look that up.

I don't care if Klay Akemen sings it, I don't like Yellow Submarine.

It is town, turn is an in-joke. When I was a kid I'd sing that song all the time and go "In the turn...". My dad would correct me, "It's town.", and I'd go "Oh, okay...In the turn where I was born." Still cracks my dad up to this day.

I would just love to see your proof of that, seeing as it makes no sense. If they didn't get the rights from Van Halen, you would have seen "As Made Famous By The Kinks" and the song would sound like the Kinks' version. They couldn't put "As Made Famous By Van Halen" without licensing from Van Halen. VH may just be covering the song, but it's still the intellectual property of VH.
I don't think you really understand what you think you understand.

the fact of the matter is octupus's garden is a good song along with like about 99.8% of the beatles discography. the only songs i don't dig by them are goodnight (and thats cuz i'm kinda warming up to it) and all you need is love. obviously the best song to go in rb would be taxman cuz of the fantastic ahead-of-its-time-completely-underrated-metalesque riff by george and the virtuosity of paul. not to mention paul did a pretty rockin solo for that song

How about nooo, Scott.
Once they bought the rights to the song itself they could of done a polka version and credited it as performed by The Happy Man Jam Band if they wanted. Ray and Dave Davies own the rights to You Really Got Me, 100%. Van Halen needed their permission to do it as much as Harmonix did. Once Harmonix got permission they could then make their own version and say it's "in the style of", no problem. It's only if they used anything from the master track Van Halen themself layed down that they would need them to sign off on anything.
And I know this is how it went down because in the issue of Official X-Box Magazine with GH II on the cover Ted Lange (who is with Red Octane I believe) said exactly that. They wanted Panama, but to get a Van Halen song you need all 4 guys permission. Since Satan will be starting an ice hockey team before Dave and Eddie agree on something, that wasn't happening, hence their elegant solution.
p.s. When asked what his dream song to get in GH III would be Ted said 'Everybody's Got Something To Hide Except For Me And My Monkey'.

I'd like some "Yer Blues"... Although, "Paperback Writer", "Rain" or "Day Tripper" would be fun.

or you could get the real Beatles license and put a better Beatles song on rock band
Don't get me wrong, it is a good idea and I like the song twist and shout a lot but I would be disappointed in Harmonix and MTV if they put that song on rock band instead of a later Beatles song
But please, get the Beatles on the damn game
I would prefer a song from the later Beatles if you know what I mean
if you listen to the Beatles a lot you can definitely tell that they got better at song writing as well as their instruments as they went on

Eh, Twist and Shout was already in Karaoke Revolution, and I'd imagine the singing would pretty-much be the only fun part to do, so I doubt Harmonix would use it for RB...
nice idea though
I want the Abbey Road suite (as one song)

I agree with everyone who says it would be better to have a proper Beatles song, one written by the boys themselves. My idea is more of a Plan B.
