View Full Version : Drum Pedal Magnet

My drum pedal broke sometime last week while I was playing Iron Maiden. I decided to go with a Woodrock pedal, but when I was installing the pedal tonight, the magnet for the pedal somehow went missing.

In case I can't find it, I'm assuming these are just regular magnets you can buy at a store. Can anyone confirm this, or have I just screwed myself?

I'm pretty sure any suitable magnet can be used, but it must be of the same polarity and of similar strength.

It is an earth magnet, but getting the right size is going to be hard.... I suggest for an easier fix is to buy about 6 of what radio shack sells, and using double stick foam tape. Just add magnets until you get it right. You can also look into the pedal that I am selling as of next week.

Thanks. Turns out I found it the next day, but it's good to know I had a fallback.

That pedal looks pretty sick.

How are so many people breaking the stock pedals? Ya'll must be kickin' the crap out of those things. I let my foot rest on mine and barely lift my foot maybe an inch for kicks. Just as I do on a real drum kit. I'm not knocking anyone, I just wanna know how they are breaking so easily.

They are under-designed. This is easily verifiable at home your self. Pick the entire pedal up and press the top half down with your hand as if you were stepping on it.

If you look at the pedal from the side while you do this then you can observe the plastic foot pedal flexing(!). Keep in mind that the flexing you are seeing is from the relatively light pressure exerted by your hands.

Now imagine doing that ~100-200 times per song (or more, depending on the song/difficulty) with your entire foot. Constantly flexing plastic = cracking plastic = broken pedal.

Yours will break eventually if you don't reinforce it. Its just a matter of time.

Thanks for the insight. I think I will have my metal working guy start working on a mod for me.
