So here's the deal...last weekend, the 2 guys in my BWT band came over and we did the Endless Setlist, all on Hard. Me on drums, the 2 of them on guitar and bass. (I wanted to do it on Expert, but the guitarist can't play them all :()

All 3 of us were signed into my 360 with our XBL Gold gamertags.

When we finished, all 3 of us got the achievements for Medium and Hard Endless Setlist, no problem.

I went online and my drummer icon is indeed the gold icon, cool. All good there. If they're signed into my 360, they can go online and their character icons are gold.

But if they're at their home, on their own 360, they sign into XBL and of course the icons aren't gold, since their guitarist characters were created on my 360 and don't get transferred over with a Recover Gamertag.

So the question is: Is there any way to transfer their characters with the gold icons onto their own 360 consoles? Maybe with a memory card?

Memory card should do it, assuming the characters belong to separate profiles. Data is handled in profiles, not characters.

Yeah they each created their characters under their own profiles.

That's what I meant, moving the profiles, since the characters are contained therein. Just not sure how the memory card thing works, since nobody I know owns one for the 360. I know you can transfer gamertag data like that, but what about game data?

Can you move individual game save data over? Like can we copy just their profile's RB save data, or is all of the RB save data in one big file on my HDD?

Actually, I believe I just found the answer to this. I was looking around in my 360 tonight and found that there are individual save game files for each gamertag for each game. So we should be able to copy their save game files onto a memory card, then onto their consoles, and they'll have their precious gold-icon characters.

My only concern then will be, will that overwrite their existing save game files and any progress they've made with their solo tours already on their consoles?

Presumably it would overwrite and not merge. You might want to make a couple "test" profiles first and see how it works. The sad thing is if I got a mem card it would have to be the 512MB version and those are $50 ><

Yeah that's what I figured. Dang.

But one thing I did just find on the xbox website is that you don't have to buy an actual Xbox Memory Card. It can use any USB-connected storage device (flash drive, etc.).

http://www.xbox.com/en-US/support/systemsetup/xbox360/accessories/harddrive.htm

"You can copy items on your hard drive to a memory unit, a connected PC, or a connected USB device."

I guess for the future, when you are having friends over, it would probably be a good idea to have your friends bring their save files over from home and access profle/gamesave data via the device rather than your HDD. Once your don, they take the thumb drive home and overwrite the original. Would that work?

Yeah that sounds like it should work just fine. One of them doesn't care about overwriting his existing save file on his HDD, and the other doesn't even own RB yet, so I guess it's not a big deal :)
