DEFINITELY Run To The Hills. I'm almost scared to play that song...probably because I failed 52 times trying to beat it on hard.

I don't really know seeing as how I can't get past Green Grass and High Tides for the ****ing life of me, so I guess that it gets my vote.

Dear on arrival took me a lot of time to finish on expert.
i only managed to do it yesterday.
what i recommand (it work for me) is to "practice" this song on 80% speed
2 ,3 times , then move to 90% 2,3 times.
after that , it's possible to finish.

Dead on Arrival and Detroit Rock City kick my butt on Expert

In the Hard career, definitely Run to the Hills.
I HAAAATE that song.
I am still working my way through expert, so I don't really know about that. But I am not looking forward to Fallout Boy. And not just because they suck.

I'm with ya, knocked it out on medium last week. There is a key believe it or not. During the last guitar solo, when you have to beat the living hell out of the yellow/red combos, DO NOT START OVERDRIVE. That way you get a break every 10 seconds or so to rest and get ready to do it again. I failed that song probably 30 times before missing the first overdrive during that solo and then I was WTF, it's pretty easy.
Hope it helps, it did me. But now, hard is kickin my butt. I can't get past In Bloom for gosh's sakes.

Dead on Arrival (Expert).
I've played it at least 20 times and the best I can do is 49%.
That said, I've played "We won't be fooled again" on Expert during a Score Duel... and.. I don't envision passing that one any time soon when I get to it. Also I have a ***** of a time with Foreplay (not Longtime). But yeah.. DOA.. can't get past it yet. HATE IT.
Detroit Rock City took a dozen or so tries (failing mid 40's every time) but once I 'heard' the bass drum in it, I breezed through.

That song is a PAIN! My trick is to save your fills. It may not get you many stars or points but you'll get through it. just don't complete your drum fills and they will keep coming back. Which will intrrupt the redundant beats at the end. and when your almost dead. complete the drum fill and you're back up to green again. It worked for me.
That being said. It's really a guitar song

I used to think it was Dead on Arrival, but after finally getting 5 stars, I'm thinking Next to You is the song that's beating the crap out of me the most.

For me, in order of toughest, goes like this.
Blackened
Run to the Hills
Won't Get Fooled Again
Tom Sawyer
Next to You
Foreplay
Dead on Arrival
The rest i didn't have too much trouble with on expert. The only song I haven't beaten is Blackened, but with some practice, I can hit that one tricky part.

I think when you reach GG&HT on hard, you'll be surprised. It's really not much harder on hard and expert than it was on medium (after being the one song I failed multiple times on medium, I sight-read it on hard with 5 stars).
It's all about endurance, and chances are, your endurance will be much better by the time you get down there on hard (Paranoid will see to that...).

QFT You won't even bat an eye at this on Expert ;)
The hardest song available on the game is Blackened...
The hardest song on the disc is a toss up between Next to you and Dead On Arrival...
Next to you has a lot of hard to follow transitions, and DOA just has two really demanding repeating rythms... if you get those down DOA's simple... but getting those consistent is pretty tough :(
The only reason Run to the Hills is difficult lies a lot more in hardware issues than the actual song ;)

I actually beat blackened, on a whim, even though I hadn't beaten the game yet on hard. I was just going to go gently into hard, but I was wrong, I tried blackened because I love that song, and it kicked my ass. then, when my friend played flirtin with disaster, I had to show him up, so I forced myself to do flirtin with disaster, and I beat it. then, on a high from beating that song, I tried blackened, telling my friend "no worry, I'll lose this one." then I beat it, and shut the game off becuase my life was complete.

Bwa ha ha ha!!! One tricky part? You mean 2/3 of the song?
Actually there's one difficult part repeated (if I remember right) 4 times through the song... then one really difficult portion... if you can get the intro part down, then every time it's repeated you're golden ;)
Yeah, I just did Dead on Arrival on expert. That was HARD. I had to practice at 50%, then 60% then 70% then 80% for about 2-3 hours to drill that into my head. Still only got 86% when I finished it. GG+HT isn't that hard for me. It's fast, and has the tempo change, but there's nothing complicated in it.
Right now Detroit Rock City is giving me a lot of trouble. I had no idea the KISS drummer was such a precision monster. He sounds almost like a drum machine, kind of like the Bags' drummer (remember Caveman Rejoice?).

Oh, I know all too well. It just seems like 2/3 of the song IS the hard part.
I cheated my way through Blackened on Hard. Every time the fast part came up, I skipped the Yellow by itself.
So I basically was going (RY) (RY) | (RY) (RY) | (RY) (RY) | (RY). The line being the kick pedal.
Does that make sense?
EDIT:

I love The Bags! Jim Janota is a nasty drummer. I've seen them play live a few times and it is very impressive.

I beat Boston the other night at 94% and like 4.999 stars. I was so pissed.
They way I got past the initial knockout 20% of the song was when it goes Red, Red, blue(+bass), green(+bass), then back to red, red. I hit only 1 red snare and concetrated on the bass with blue and green.
Then pray I can do the rolls from left to right then right to left and repeat the process again.
The first time I tried it was in quickplay and I beat it!! I was like YES!!! Then jumped right into career and did again.
For me, fear the reaper is by far my toughest song. I fail, check it, AT 93%!!! And I mean it's like I'm high up on the "rock meter" to the left in green, then in like 2 blinks of the eyes, I'm done. EVERYTIME. Mutha Sucker I hate that song.
I have completed blackended like 2wice on solo, and 3 or 4 in quickplay. But I have only beat it early in the night of playing because I have the a fresh leg, fresh wrists, and energy. If I try that song say, 20 songs in, and 4 hours of quickplay or solo tour, fuggetaboutit.
So my order: Hardest to Easiest
Reaper
foreplay
fooled again
blackended
maybe working man tonight??

my secret to doing blackened was to skip the foot pedal when it's the fast part, the rest was somewhat challenging, but not gut busting.

I dont even remember where im stuck now. I think GG&HT is the hardest, simply because it gave me more trouble of Medium than RttH did. But I havent played either on Hard yet. Oh wait in quickplay I beat RttH on Hard.

+1. Dead on Arrival is very hard, probably the hardest in the game. Detroit Rock City and Vasoline are probably the next two hardest, then Maybe Next to You..
Hardest with DLC for me would be:
Blackened
Dead On Arrival
Detroit Rock City
Next to You
Vasoline
Run to the Hills
DFtR and WGFA were real easy for me for some reason. GG&HT was very easy on expert for me too.

Since most of you are on hard or expert. If you play online - score duel, can the bonus tracks of medium you've unlocked them be choosen on easy?
When I was playing on hard, Next to you was the song I had the most trouble with by far. Paranoid on expert is giving me a bit of trouble right now.

Blackened
Run to the Hills
Dead on Arrival
Wont Get Fooled Again

Next to You
Detroit Rock City
Vasoline
Paranoid
Green Grass & High Tides
I added Vasoline and GG&HT because they were songs that made me fail when I first tried them. After you get them they aren't very hard. But then again, so are the other songs, just takes longer to pass them.

The worst part of being stuck on DOA on expert drums is that you have to keep hearing the song over and over again if you want to pass it. I guess that's why I haven't passed it yet.... Technically difficult songs aren't supposed to be so annoying LOL.

Yea I forgot about Outside. I hate that song lol. I would rate that before Paranoid because it really wears out my hands. After a While paranoid stopped being so exhausting. I aggree all the other songs are either 5* or G*
Damn you actually beat RttH. Thats the only song I have yet to beat. How did you do it? After a while I started to get the beat but keep failling around 70% where they introduce the 3 Bass hits in a row. I'm hoping I can get lucky one of these days and I dont have to use OD until I get to that point.

Good lists. I have to say the hardest ones I've found to five star are:
Run To The Hills
Won't Get Fooled Again
As far as DLC, there are a bunch of tough ones. Among the most difficult to five star are Blackened (or most of the Metallica tunes save Enter Sandman), and a lot of the Greatful Dead ones like Casey Jones, China Cat Sunflower and Truckin'. They're challenging because, like Won't Get Fooled Again, they're largely improvised, with a lot of funky accents, and a lot of quick snare runs towards the end of the tunes.
The latest song by The Offspring, "Hammerhead", is a tad on the tricky side too.
Froggy21786
07-02-2008, 02:15 AM
DOA was easy for me. I guess it just clicked, I played a lot of similar beats back in high school when I played for real.
Reaper is just BS. I mean come on, the song isn't even written correctly, during the solo I think the HMX guys said eff it, we're throwing in bass notes where they don't belong just to be difficult.
But, it's a game, and after playing it for a week and a half or so on drums, I've come to expect the parts to be completely wrong. I mean look at Move Along, the main verse part is just a bunch of randomness thrown on the screen.
Blackened, Run to the Hills, the Perfect Drug, and the solo in Reaper are my picks.

Young Man Blues is the hardest based on sticking, accuracy, and skill.
Blinded by Fear is the hardest in terms of endurance and timing. However, BbF, RttH, and the other "endurance" songs' difficultly is partially inflated by the fact that the default RB kits have ****ty rebound on the pads and a garbage pedal, and are actually easier to play on a real drumset than in RB, especially RttH.
Martanicus
08-16-2008, 11:16 PM
Yeah, I've always thought that songs like Run to the Hills and Blinded by Fear are, while definitely difficult, not hard in a "classy" way. I'd even say the same thing is partly true of Young Man Blues. The intro is basically a how-fast-can-you-hit-your-kit-in-the-general-area-of-the-notes deal, and a lot of the rest has to do with endurance with the bass pedal and the cymbal (red? I think it's green for you righties :p). In terms of "classy" difficulty, I'd say Won't Get Fooled Again gets it for on disk songs. Maybe Next to You - but that's a bit on the endurance test side of things - or even Dead On Arrival o_0. As for DLC, I haven't seen all of it, but I'd say Perfect Drug and Constant Motion are up there, although Perfect Drug kind of cheats by having synth drums. I reeeally want to play the drums during the guitar solo in Constant Motion, though. Why do my (brother's) 360 and bass pedal have to die on me?
Matt LOL

Hardest in a ridiculous way = Blinded by Fear
Hardest technically = The Perfect Drug or Constant Motion
wrldindstries302
08-16-2008, 11:45 PM
Constant Motion isn't that hard; there's like 15 songs on expert I can't beat (including 3 from the Roadrunner pack: Sleepwalker, Aesthetics Of Hate, And Clouds Over California) and I beat Constant Motion on sightread. Another song I had no problem with is Kool Thing. I don't think I'll ever be able to beat Run To The Hills Though, even if I ever pass Don't Fear The Reaper.

08-17-2008, 01:07 AM
I'd have to say the hardest drums songs would be Aesthetics of Hate and Blinded by Fear, or if you can do rapid beats with one hand for extended periods of time but can't do technical stuff, then The Perfect Drug and Constant Motion.

Young Man Blues I still fail sometimes at the beginning. RttH, once you get it down, is a simple beat, albeit fast.
So I think I agree about Young Man Blues.

Well, it depends, there are many hard ones that are hard in different ways.
Blinded By Fear is hardest for me 'cause I don't have the stamina for that crap, which confuses me since I've been doing martial arts for like 9 years or something.
Anyway, RTTH is -was- the hardest if you have trouble keeping time at that speed, but I believe Burn has replaced it since it's faster and a little more complicated.
The perfect drug and Constant motion are hard 'cause of ungodly complicated note charts.
And finally we have Cloud Over California... right leg stamina GO! that song would be so much easier if you had 2 kick pedals and were playing all the kick pedal notes (it would just be more even)...
there's my 2 cents

I haven't bought Blinded By Fear simply because I don't want to experience the anguish of never beating it.
Other than that, the only song I can't beat is Blackened, so I guess that's the hardest.

I honestly still rank Don't Fear the Reaper up there. I've beaten it quite a few times, but there are just some times where I fail it. I can't beat it consistently. I would probably say Blinded By Fear is th most difficult for me, because I haven't beaten it BY MYSELF. I haven't downloaded Burn, so I can't say.
RTTH.
My last song on Expert. I hate you RTTH

I'm not sure. For a while I had a hard time on Orange Crush when I was still learning. (Mainly because of the bass pedal.)

Well, I'm a poor old fool on a PS2, so I have no DLC, although I did pick up Track Pack one.
I actually managed to bullsh*t my way through WGFA, but RttH and Orange Crush consistently fail me as my set is chronically incapable of registering rolls, on any pad, not just red.
Oh, and Truckin' is just stupid. Taptap, taptap, taptap, through almost the whole thing. Grr.
Oh, Don't Fear the Reaper, like so many of us, has slain me, but GG&HT I played through on med, found it easy, did hard, found it much the same, then did expert. A mistake, of course, as I was so tired I failed at about 25%, but after a quick breather and a re-do, passed on expert. No tough, just long.

I can not get March of the Pigs down no matter how many times i try. Ive got to practice that song more. BTW i just beat Everlong on expert on my first try! hooray! And Ill agree that RTTH is easier on expert than hard because on hard, even before i played expert, I wanted to hit the bass inbetween where the notes are on hard. It took me a while just to get myself to not play so many bass notes. Then when I got to expert, it felt natural.
So if everyone is still saying RTTH is the hardest, do i really have to worry about the upper tier songs on RB2?

This thread is from ages ago.
RB2 has several songs that are far, far more difficult than RTTH.
Also, if you only have the stock drums, Good Mourning/Black Friday is the hardest drum song. Period.

This has been a pretty fun thread to read. It's interesting to see that everyone has different songs they're good / bad at. I guess everyone has their own style. Don't Fear the Reaper has never given me too much trouble and Won't Get Fooled Again on Expert is probably my favorite song in the game ( It's really hard though ). However, I can't even get through RTTH on Hard. That song utterly destroys me.

I could beat everything except Don't Fear the Reaper, which I'm sure I could do now if I had hyperspeed.
I blame a lot of it on my drums and their horrible red pad (which is why I couldn't 5 star things like the Tribe song).

Epic necro thread is epic.
Anyway, What a Horrible Night took the title here as soon as it came out, and realistically I do not see it giving up that crown any time soon.

Well, he used the search function i'm assuming^^. And if he started another thread with this same topic i'm willing to bet somebody would have had to chime in just to say "How many of these topics are going to be made, use search etc." It's impossible to win on a forum I guess :p
On topic though, anything with a blast beat is impossible for me at the moment. I'm sure one day i'll get the hang/timing of em.

Almost none of those songs that you guys have listed are very hard at all. The only one that I think is even kind of hard is Run to the Hills. And really, come on, Vaseline is not hard at all. I can gold star that every time.

This thread was created almost two years ago, back when RB1 was 2 months old, then necro'd a couple a months ago before you necro'd it again.

(Shhh, let's just pretend it's still 2 months after RB1) :D
Run to the hills is sooooooooooo fast omg at least Harmonix (is that spelled right?) decided to compose (is 'chart' a better word?) the fast notes to red, we'll be thanking them for that in years to come
Don't Fear the Reaper is brOOtal as well, everytime i try and beat it my pedal snaps in two, thankfully EA gives us free replacements, none of that 3 month warranty crap
Won't Get Fooled Again is just to crazy for my mind to comprehend, maybe the rock band guys should have gone easy on us and ignored certain notes, i bet this is one of those songs that nobody will ever achieve a full song 100% combo. If we ever get a who pack it'll be like the most ridiculous drum stuff ever, i bet nobody would be able to even pass any of them except for *maybe* behind blue eyes
Dead on Arrival isn't totally impossible but I still can't beat it. I wish I could be able to play it and actually hear the drums, normally i drop down to medium and just jam because Fallout Boy is liek teh greatest band evar zomg. If only Rock Band had a Impossible to Fail mode or better yet if they came out with like a Rock Band Jukebox
And to conclude, Maps is srs bsnss

Run to the hills is easy. Real easy. You just have to develop the arm strength and hit the pedal at the right time and then it becomes REAL easy.
However, their is a few. This is exile. What A Horrible Night to Have A Curse. Stuff like that in the Mayhem pack can get pretty insane. I can get a few seconds into both those songs and bail out before I hit the bottom.

The entire Mayhem Pack, Black Magic being the easiest, but has some really tricky fills
In my opinion Embedded is one of the hardest, in the top 3 for hardest to pass
WaHNtHaC qnd TIE. I never plan on buying the camera eye or YMB but both of them look killing.
If 6 was 9 is in top 3 for hardest to FC

E-e-e-e-epic necro!
Hardest RB1 song was DFTR btw, hardest RB2 song was Visions, hardest DLC... too many to count. Once they reach a certain level of impossible it doesn't really matter.
