or feature similar. And if so, then the question must be asked: "how would you employ star power for drums or vocals?"

They would add a button. It would not be difficult.

Pushing a button is not quite as "rock" as lifting your guitar in the air is it, no?

Would be nice if there was stuff for other instruments you could do and still keep you in the experience

Star power for drums would be raising the sticks upright above your head and then slamming them down in time to the music, and for vox it would be spinning the mic in your hand. :p

Or how about for the drums you hit the bass drum, cymbal and, High Hat, or some other, more likely less ridiculous, combonation.

You know, like you are crashing down upon your kit. Though this would not work at all on any harder songs.

So would holding the sticks above your head. That has the issue of you having to stop playing, for Guitar Hero you can still play when you raise your guitar. But you cannot raise the sticks and still play.

Let's hope they don't make singers look up at the ceiling :-D

For vocals you should just yell "YEEEAAAAH!!!" as loud as you can.

For drums you could lift the sticks above your head and smash them together.

i think the more pressing matter for me is how the drum and mic periphreals will look or function.

i think probably the best way to do it would be to have sensors somewhere in the drumsticks that would either track a change in elevation (for that elevated fist pump) or measures force (either hitting the drums particularly hard, which would create a problem for those of us who hit are George of the Jungle drummers and just bang, or you hit the sticks against each other to activate it)

and the only way i could see star power for the vocalist is to throw the micstand across the room

Wouldn't a simple mic inversion work?

I like the idea of throwing the mic stand but family pets might get hurt and that just gets PETA involved.

But does HMX have the copyright of 'starpower' in games or does Red Octane/Activision own that now?

well it was a joke more than anything else. i wouldnt want that to be implemented cause that would be alot of priceless heirlooms and/or glass vasses broken.

I don't know, most likely that is owned by Activision now, but the idea can be recreated, as I do not think you can copywrite powering up.

Or else everyone would be paying fees to Pac-Man.

considering the copyright and patent system that has quite literally engulfed the US (I.E. Copyrighting or Patenting something in order to squeeze out the competition intellectually), it would not be surprising at all if "power-up" based games had to pay some form of fee for that (also considering around that time the counterfitting and ammount of copycat games that were out there, companies needed to make sure thier products and money were protected).

and if my understanding of copywrite law and the given scenario is correct, Harmonix still owns the original copyrights and such to the GH Franchise, but are allowing another dev house to create it, similar to how Bioware let Obsidian Entertainment make the Second Knights of the Old Republic. and because of that, Harmonix would not have to pay any royalties or copyright fines.

That has has to do with a deep understanding of Copywrite law, that is simply an issue of who owns the rights and I do believe Red Octane is the one who owns the name.

perhaps. in any case a Star-Power-ish feature would certainly be nice to have, though how to do it remains to be an issue. with the guitar Star Power you can do that without interrupting your playing or rythm, but the ones added thus far....not so much.

when i think the Mic Periphreal i'm thinking Mic and stand, and if thats the case i would think maybe just that classic Stand-buck would work (where the singer holds the stand and bucks both himself and the stand in a direction).

I think Harmonix has the brain power to figure it out if they do implement it.

So often I see people think for a minute, post that they cannot think of a way, and say that because of their inability it is futile.

Well, maybe the large group of people who are working hours a day, with the ability to test different ideas, can come up with something.

Sorry if this is non-sensical, I am somewhat tired.

ey dont worry about it, i'm tired too, once my uniform for tomorrow is out of the dryer i'm going to bed.

and just because I, Conor WP Ford, cannot think of anything, doesnt mean that Harmonix cant. they get paid to come up with something. and they havent made a bed game yet. they are bound to come up with something. I have full and complete faith in them.

Then again, maybe it just won't matter at the end of the day. Sure, Drums and vocals won't have a spiffy power-up feature, but they're most likely not going to be directly comparing scores with the guitarists anyway

c0nd0rd4myt
05-18-2007, 09:43 PM
yah but also consider that star power is equal parts score booster and ass-saver for when your doing badly. i'm fine with the guitarists naturally having higher scores than me, i just want a way to save myself if i'm having a hard time

or for the drums u spin the sticks in your fingers as fast as u can and the vox u throw it up in the air hell ahigh

c0nd0rd4myt
05-19-2007, 01:51 PM
yah but that creates a problem in that you have to wait for a long enough pause in order to do that, with guitars you can activate SP and still play the notes

benjamin
05-19-2007, 06:04 PM
How about for the Drums the Bass pedal is held down for slightly longer then how long it takes to just hit the note.

You know how you when you actually hit the bass drum you only strike quickly so just hold it a half second longer to activate the power.

This could be a problem because I do not actually know how the bass drum works. Nope.

I'm fine with throwing the mic stand.

But in all seriousness, I don't think there is a way to deploy star power for the vocals and drums without causing mistakes, because I have no problem playing the guitar when it is lifted. I believe that a button is needed.

or throwing the mic stand, or throwing the cymbal at the television

Easy for drums, just put a button on one or both of the sticks. :D
