Edgar Winter opened and played for about 45 minutes. He was great. I didn't realize he played the Sax, Keyboards, and Drums. I thought it was just Keyboards. Of course I wanted to hear Frankenstein. He played a 10 minute version and did this drum off with the drummer during to solo. Just great.
BOC played next and again for about 45 minutes. I love them and they didn't let me down. Again they played Godzilla. Their bass player (Not original) was great and during the song everyone let the stage except him and the drummer. He played a little improv thing and the best part was his thirty second 'Crazy Train' riff. Also, 'Don't Fear The Reaper' was great. Those guys make playing look so easy.
Deep Purple was the big act and played for about 1 hour and 15 minutes. I think they sucked. I have never been a huge fan. I would have liked to see Rickie Blackmore. The guitar player they have now is great but there was too much shredding. I'm a guitar player myself and I can respect his playing and it was amazing. But every song had a 7 or 8 minute guitar solo. He played a 20 improv thing and it got so bad people started yelling for them to play a real song. The place they played sat about 1200 people. About a quarter of the people left before they finished. They closed with 'Smoke On The Water'. After that almost everyone left. Not a lot of people stayed for the encore (maybe 300 or so I left too).
Overall the thing was great and I very happy I went and I couldn't beat the price I paid for the tickets. I do think that maybe since these games are getting so big (GH and RB) they should really think about getting concerts together.
