so my original drumsticks are lookin pretty nasty by now, plu one has a chip on its head. So im gettin new ones, but since im not a real drummer, i was wonderin if i could get advice on which ones or at least which type i should get. I noticed they make sticks with nylon tips. would that be better than wooden tips? thanks in advance for the help.

From speaking with the guy at Guitar Center, he said nylon tips won't make a difference in this case. Some people have said they are easier on the drum heads, but I dunno.

I walked in there, tried a few out, and went with the light Vic Firth 7As, they're pretty standard, I guess.

I was told that nylon heads would damage the rubber on the pads quicker??!!

I ended up with a pair of Zildjan (spelling?!) Travis Barker signatures. They're a little chunkier, but not a whole lot, but feel a lot more solid and slightly heavier. I feel like I have a lot more control with these.

I got THE drumsticks for Rock Band. Lucky enough to work with a couple of electronic drummers at my newspaper. They say there is only one stick to use while playing electronic drums, which is what Rock Band essentially is. Zildjian Trigger Sticks. No more vibration. AWESOME rebound. If you use these with the gum rubber mod, they fell freakin' amazing. I went from a medium player to expert over the past three days with these two "mods"

O yeah, and they are only like 8 or 9 bucks. Check out www.interstatemusic.com. that's where i found them, but I am sure a ton of places carry them. I just live in BFE Indiana and that website is based in Wisconsin, so it speeded up delivery.

I just picked up the 5A Zildjan sticks with nylon tip as my original sticks were getting really bad. I don't see the nylon tip hurting the rubber but i have the foam mod on mine and really like that feel. Think they cost me $11.

When it comes to size of the sticks, I'd recommend 7A's. When i got RB, I actually tossed their sticks and started using a pair of 7A's I had kicking around and they are perfect for the game.

The sticks that came with Rb are standard 5A. If you want a similar replacement just go to GC and get their house brand sticks. They are very affordable. If you want a lighter stick try a 7A.

Well, my sticks just snapped on me. but when i got my new ones, i went with the Pro Mark 5A made of American Hickory. I think they are working well. I like em. Wooden tips. Since its just for Rock Band, i wasnt really lookin for amazing drumsticks. just anything i could drum with.

The sticks that came with RB feel like 7A's. I picked up some 8D's because I'm a small guy so the extra reach helps.

They are not 7A's that's for sure. I have Vic Firth AS7A's. I almost got 7A's and the RB's are heavier than 7A's. The AS7A's are in between 7A's and 5B as far as weight go. They are also about 1/2 inch shorter than the RB's.

I love them. The have round tips unlike the RB's which are tear drop. If you can't decide, take your RB's with you. Hold them, then hold some other ones and select which ever you like. See they have a practice laying around and do a few rolls on it with the new sticks before you buy them. That is a good way to see if you like them or not.

Good luck.

size has nothing to do with weight I've got 5As and they weigh a considerate amount more than the RB sticks. The wood in the RB sticks just suck and they aren't sturdy. The Zil's I use are solid and nylon tips bounce off of the drum mutes amazingly well.

My personal favorite is the Vater Sugar Maple 5B, large yet light. I'm also interested in the Zildjian Anti-Vibe sticks. Nylon tips are not to be confused with soft rubber tips, in fact nylon produces a sharper tone upon impact and is as hard if not harder than natural wood tips.

Honestly it all comes down to preference and what the drums for Rock Band can handle. Personally I felt right with a thicker stick but I didn't want to bash on the delicate RB drums with tree trunks so I went for maple.

I did some research on the weighting of sticks and apparently the 5A or 7A has little to nothing to do with weight. The guy at Cosmo showed me two models both 7A ,one Zhildjan and one VicFirth, the Firth stick was seriously lighter. It basically all comes down to preferance. i tried the Travis Barker stick by Zhijdjan and personally found it to be too heavy for the RoCk Band set, so i switched to a lighter (and 2inch shorter) Vic Firth JoJo Mayer Stick.
These JoJo sticks i find perfect for my hand size.

Vic Firth X5A's...best sticks ever!

I just switched to Vic Firth American Classic Metal N. It is larger stick, but the guy at my local music center said the larger stick should give me better control, which I have found to be the case. I am having more success with drum rolls, and I getting longer streaks on expert than I used to get.

I had been using pro mark 5a's which I was ok with, but they did have a fair bit of vibration I felt.

I have been using the Zildjan anti-vibration sticks for about 6 weeks now. I have been really happy with them. The amount of vibration transferred to your hands is much less then a solid core stick. They held up pretty well for about 4 weeks of heavy use until on of the plugs slid out. I popped it back in and its been good even since.
Got em' at Guitar Center $13ish.

I use Joey Jordison signature model... BEST STICKS EVER... they are short which is cool for RB and the best part is that the sticks are composite so they should never break. They are a bit expensive but should not break with RB.. They are perfectly balanced too which helps me as a novice drummer to get thoes quick hits like in Rockaway Beach
I rate these sticks 10/10 best sticks ever

Well I had bought a few pairs for my Tama Stagestar drum kit since I've been chewing them up from playing it lately.

They're Vater 5A drumsticks, so if I happen to end up breaking my Rock Band sticks...I might as well just use one of the pairs I had bought for my real kit.

I've been looking over stick options and I think the Zildjian trigger sticks are the best choice. I might pick some up today - though I've found my local Guitar Center to be less than helpful to folks who aren't "real" musicians.

Ask for Ahead Drumsticks. Replaceable shafts and tips, anti-vibration. Around $30 a pair but they will be the only pair you will need. Re-fills for the tips and shafts are way cheap. Been using them for a few years and love em!

I bought a pair of Vic Firth 5A and like them pretty well. Heavier than the RB sticks and less vibe. I also found a pair of Hot Sticks 5A that I had in a box and they are pretty good as well, great rebound with them. I am using the foam/felt mod and i am happy with both pairs of sticks.

Funny you should mention that - the guy at GC recommended them too. They seem like really nice sticks but $30 is a bit too much for me to pay for drumsticks for this game.

They didn't have the Triggers in stock so I settled on the Zildjian Anti-Vibe sticks in 5A. Not too bad, between the sticks and the grip tape I spent less than $20.

So now I've got a decent throne (Percussion Plus 900T for about $35, comparable to the Pacific Drums DT700 (http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Pacific-Drums-by-DW-DT700-Drum-Throne?sku=443541)) and excellent sticks. Now I just need to get some pads for the tops of the drum heads and I'll be good to go. It's kind of frightening to think that I've spent nearly as much on actual musical accessories as I did on the game itself!

so i went to gc and got the zildjiuan 5A Anti-Vibe sticks. AWESOME i really like them. definitely less vibration transfered to the hands. also picked up a decent throne. this definitely helps my leg fatigue as i can now adjust my seat to the proper height. the guy there was actually really helpful. i completely forgot to pick up tape, but these sticks dont slide in my hand as much as the rb sticks did, so if im in that area agian i might pick some up. all in all its well worth it to get replacement stickseven if yours are fine. it will definitely help. thinkin bout gettin the gum rubber mod from JT. anybody get this and have any reviews of it.

Thanks again for everybody's help with recommendations for replacement sticks. I really appreciate it. This forum ROCKS!
