Remember all those articles about how a $200 price point was going to kill Rock Band? Maybe not.

As of now, the preorder for the Xbox 360 $200 Special Edition is the fourth best selling Video Game item on Amazon (http://tinyurl.com/26w2ws).

I really don't think that the "big" price tag is really going to affect that many people. For what you are paying for, $200 is fairly accurate. I'm personally waiting until the price is official and more places start offering Rock Band before I pre-order it, but I expect with the popularity of the game, and the size of the bundle, it is really going to pay off to pre-order it.

I just ordered my bundle a week ago at a local GameCrazy. The only other place within 20 miles is a Gamestop that I hate.

But I digress, the guy said I was the first person to pre-order it and that kind of took me by surprise.

Rock Band is the type of game you wouldn't want to go out on release date and track down an entire bundle (which is what most people want).

Guitar Hero 2 and GH 80's are both in the top 25.

BAHAHA, I guess RB is "Potentially competitive" after all

Hmm...higher than Halo.
Doesn't surprise me a bit. I kinda expected it from Rock Band to beat an overrated FPS like Halo.

They'd have my pre-order too if there was any sort of confirmation on what bundles will exist...

After enjoying the freedom of wandering around looking like an even bigger idiot than usual with the wireless PS2 guitar, I have no interest in a bundle including a wired one.

I can't tell you how many people I heard say "I'm not going to wait in line on launch for a Wii, I'm sure they'll be on shelves before Christmas."

I currently have 5 people I know that are still desparately searching. I was smart enough to get in a Wii pre-order at Gamestop, and I put down a pre-order for Rock Band, because I forsee the same thing happening.

I'd preorder it, but I kind of don't even have a 360 yet.

It's a tiny setback, you could say..

RIGHT ON...ABOUT EVERYTHING!!!! I'm not going to pre-order until someone from Harmonix confirms the speculated price point or announces the real price point...I'm gunna buy it no matter what price it is, but it seems ******ed to preorder something with a "mystery price." I'd drop $400 for this game...I do not care!

It's gonna change if the final price is more than $200.

Are you kidding!? That's half the fun of it. Sitting in the freezing cold, sitting in line for hrs upon hrs, just so you can be the 1st or 3rd person to get one. That's part of what I look forward to. But then again, their are the ignorant people that get up at noon that day to get one, but naturally it is not in stock. Those are the people that pay over 2 times what the device is worth on ebay....

But if you don't want an experience...you can preorder it I guess

I really dont know why they don't just release the price info already. It's holding back alot people, including me, from pre-ordering it. I know, you know....... we all know !, that $199.99 is the price. I really dont see it being any more or any less.

Ummm...I don't know about that. If the price was $200 why would they be waiting so long to release pricing info??? I'll bet that there are twelve meetings a day at the Harmonix building where all sorts of people shout at each other: "It costs us $210 to make!!!" "But all the preorders say $200! What should we do?" "Well we could try a penetration pricing scheme of $200 and try to make up for it in Downloadable Content sales." "Oh yeah...just look at how well thats working on the 360 version of Guitar Hero 2!" "Well we have to figure something out!!!" "Nah...let's just wait until the end of August...It's lunch time anyway!" ;)

I fondly remember waiting outside a Gamestop in the below-freezing temperatures to pre-order a Wii. And by fondly, I mean, holy crap it was so cold I couldn't even use my hands to play my DS. If I am going to camp out for something ever again, it had better be like $500, and I had better be able to resell it on eBay for a giant profit.

Well...I say...you can have your experience. Sittin in the cold for 12 hours with the "Star Trek" kids its not my idea of a great friday night. I pre order everything. Why? Why not...

I mean...you are gonna buy the game no matter what right....so...why wait in a line...why track it down its not like if it gets released and you dont want it you cant just put the $5 you put down on it towards another game and then you are GUARANTEED a copy. People who dont pre order are MAD... you dont lose ANYTHING...no matter what...and you have EVERYTHING to gain.

Funny thing is, this price has been hanging out there for so long that if HMX suddenly came out w/ an official price of 195.99 we would all rejoice in the streets at the savings...

Pre-ordering anything game-related is the biggest scam in the world.

Amazon, Gamestop, and others are laughing all the way to the bank floating the interest on the pre-order money.

Not to mention the other pitfalls. Certain chain stores are notorious for overselling their available stock, or shipping late and not meeting street date.

Amazon & Gamestop online do not charge until they ship.

This is correct. I'll be pre-ordering when they announce the prices and what exactly is in the bundle. I need wireless guitars.

They don't charge til it ships, and if they did, the credit card companies would get the interest, not amazon.

I pre order from a store....and then walk in and pick it up. Simple...easy, and all it does is guarantee me a copy...doesnt cost me anything extra.

BAHAHA, I guess RB is "Potentially competitive" after all

I was kind of surprised by these rankings. The GH 3 bundle is sitting at 47 as of this post and its the Wii version. No other versions of GH3 are even on the top 100. The PS3 RB bundle is at 95. I thought there would be a gap between the 360 and ps3 versions because of the size of each installed based but not this much.

I'm kind of curious if this is a trend with other retailers. I thought GH3 would be outselling (in this case out pre-ordering) RB because of brand awareness and (mostly misplaced) brand loyalty. Considering the lack of confirmed info on RB I'm really pleasantly surprised to see it's already doing so well.

Just read on Joystiq that Best Buy has a listing on 59.99 for the whole package, and there taking pre-orders. Apparently they will honour the lowest price they give. GO NOW !! lol

Who know's if they will though.

I was surprised nobody else noticed that when I posted it. With all the controversy and competition surrounding these games, to see RB at 4 and the rest far behind, that's a huge stat, especially considering price.

Maybe people just don't think they have to pre-order GH. But still...
