View Full Version : Rock Band 2 Ideas?

Yep, I've been thinking that Rock Band will seriously be one of the best games ever sold so how could they improve it on RB2?
I have some ideas;
Firstly a keyboard accessory, that would be incredible. I really would love to play a keyboard in the RB format, would be so much fun with mates just p*ss*ng about with it as well on easy songs.
Also I think they should include more songs on the disc and on the career mode have some songs only for guitar and drums (White Stripes for example), Bass and Drums (Death From Above 1979 for example) and all other combinations (including no vocals) so each career is different from each other and therefore you have an incentive to buy all the different parts more.
Also maybe for the microphone they can simply add buttons to navigate the PS3 / 360 on it, simple idea but it would be much better than having to use a controller.
Anyone else's ideas?

Bit early to comment on Rock Band 2 is it not?

The replay system from Halo 3 would be a great addition. Imagine being able to record a full RB performance, then save it to hard disk, watch it later on, send it to friends, or post online.
Right now people get around this in GH2 with YouTube and video capture cards, which is a hugely inefficient and flawed process. I think all the commands, strums, etc could be logged to a replay file, and then accompanied by a recording of the vocals. The game engine could then render the replay file into a re-creation of the original performance.
If Rock Band is all about community, group play, etc. a tool like that would be a huge addition.
I do hope that RB lasts a while as advertised though, I'd much rather just buy new content every week instead of retail releases.

QFT. I don't really think many people can make judgements or come up with new ideas until they see what Rock Band has to offer through playing it.

haha wow. cant you just put these as Rock Band (1) suggestions?
i think that your idea of guitar/drums specific songs is solid, but i think that each solo track should have its own encore-specific songs...so when playing the solo guitar career, the encores would be a song that has an awesome guitar part, but the other parts arent that fun to play. The single player drum career would have different Encore songs too...ect.
all of these songs would be available in quick play for the whole band of course. It is just a way to get some great songs in that wouldnt be fun parts for the whole band perhaps in career mode.

I don't think they'd bother with a second one. With them making such an extensive list of DLC? They'd be set for life.

Hey, just 'cause Rock Band 1 isn't out doesn't mean we can't talk about Rock Band 2. I mean, I'm pretty sure that Rock Band 1 won't feature a keyboard peripheral... (thought that'd be neat if I was wrong :P).

Exactly. I don't understand people whining about this topic. Play Rock Band before suggesting ideas? We already know most everything about RB. It's been stated that all the major components of the game have been completed. They're not going to rush in there and add something like a keyboard peripheral at this stage of the game (no pun intended). So what's the harm in suggesting stuff for a potential Rock Band 2 that obviously won't make it in the first game due to time constraints?
As for a keyboard peripheral, I don't see how it could be done. I mean, the drums have four notes scrolling while the bass and guitar each have five notes scrolling. What's a keyboard board going to look like on the HUD? 20 notes? Would they just remove the black keys for the peripheral? There's almost no way to do it if you want to keep it looking like a real keyboard. And there's almost no way to represent so many keys in the game. If you take away all but like five or six keys, the gameplay would be pretty boring and you'd use one hand which doesn't feel like playing a keyboard at all.
The only way I could see it working is if they included two (or more) actual octaves that look and feel like a real keyboard and then scroll actual sheet music below the vocals. And that wouldn't go over well for anyone who doesn't know anything about reading sheet music.
Can anyone think of any feasible and fun way to do a keyboard peripheral? This may be a large component of what's holding Harmonix back on this idea. It's almost impossible to translate into the game. I certainly wouldn't expect them to have put it in this first game. It's a huge challenge.

True. But this isn't impossible. Think about it, on one TV screen it MIGHT be impossible, but it doesn't have to be on one TV. If a song has 2 guitars, 2 singers, a bass, and drums, it is possible to play that song online. That's if Harmonix makes Rhythm Guitar and Bass switchable. I'm sure many people would like to have the option to play Rhythm Guitar if the bass line is too monotonous (If there is even rhythm guitar in the song). I'm sure that people would like to play Bass if the rhythm guitar riff is too boring. I think both should be made playable because some bands have more than one guitar, for example, Lynyrd Skynyrd, who have three guitarists and a bassist. Someone mentioned in a different thread about this that if the bass line is boring, then why would you want to play it? Same thing with rhythm guitar, and that Harmonix should choose EITHER rhythm or bass for the song... but what if BOTH the bass line and rhythm riff are sweet? Wouldn't you like to be able to choose which one you want? I would, and I believe Harmonix owes something to the bass players because of the no career mode. Why not the option of switching? And with the two singer thing... I might be going insane, but I thought I saw two different sets of lines during a video of one song. One was white and the other was green. I was wondering if the white was backup vocals (Yea, I'm pretty sure it's just me going insane). If you had two mics, it could be done, and I don't think that two singers would take up space. Hear me out, all you would need is to put the lead vocals and backup/duo vocals on the same block on the top of the screen. This is wishful thinking, but I really hope someone from HARMONIX would read this because two guitars and two singers would be sweet. ^Everything up there would draw the line between a kickass game and a perfect game.
Maybe those ideas will show up in Rock Band II if you know what I mean, because not every rock band has one guitar, a bass, drums, and a singer. Some bands have a lead guitarist, a bassist/backup singer, a drummer, a keyboardist maybe, and a rhythm guitarist/lead singer (or however they do it). Why be a small rock band when you can be an average size rock band? People keep saying yea, but it would be too cluttered on the screen, but you don't HAVE to have two guitars, a bass, drums and two singers if you don't want. You can just play it normal, like how it's being advertised. What if you don't mind the clutter? I sure as hell wouldn't, I don't need a huge fret board, and plus I'd rather have a small fret board so I could have more of my friends rock out to a song together. I was also thinking this for songs WITHOUT words. It kinda leaves some extra space and it takes away a big part of the game. I believe another guitar would bring back some of the missing pieces in that particular song and it would definitely add fun.
For my final "feature" if you can even call it that, I would like to see a little tiny slide be added to the guitar riffs. Like green to orange or red to blue for songs that have slides in them. Please Harmonix, I beg you to read this.

Just stop with the ridiculous suggestions, like a keyboard, multiple guitarists etc. and count ur lucky stars with getting as good a game as Rock Band.
Utterly pointless thread, but I am adding fuel to the fire here lol
anyway. How about we worry bout only RB1 and GH3 just until 2008?

All I can think of is a mic-stand and PS Eye / Xbox Vision support. Record the performace so you can watch it later and have a laugh. Maybe play the feed directly on in-game screen around the stage or smoething like that...
Owh and PC software that allows you to create your own tracks for Rock Band use would be nice, although that would only apply to PS3 users, because of Xbox Live's closed system policy.

i think theres not enough decent songs to support having more than lead and rhythm/bass guitarists. Sure, there's bands like Rush and Iron Maiden, Dragonforce etc., but I think the 4 man band is perfect, and doesnt need to be tweaked.

buttons on the mic is a must. probably like alot of people I have a wireless controller and after it sets for awhile without being used it shuts off or w/e the eff it does and its usually right in the middle of a song, pauses the game and throws everyone off.
i would also like to see a single player BWT added as well.
XBox vision would be nice if you could take a pic of your face and import it on to your created character like on world championship poker 2008.
focusing on improving the quality of the instruments especially the drums with an actual bass pedal at least.
Ability for back up singers.

I'd like it if they carried over songs from RB 1 and/or allowed the DLC content to still be playable in any sequels. That way we wouldn't have to keep changing disks and would have tons of content. ;)

Realistic desired additions:
Optional backup singing.
5-player option, adding a rhythm guitar.
All instruments available for Solo mode
Online World Tour
Complete reinvention stuff that will never happen:
Branching career. Optional path divergences (Classic Rock, New Rock/Pop, Metal). This means a lot more songs and multiple play throughs to unlock all.
Story mode. Actual cutscenes with actual dialogue. Career paths determine which cut scenes you get. Good place for celebrity cameos.
RPG-like Character Development. 3 base stats Technique, Charisma, Style. Higher technique would make the game more forgiving with missed notes, at highest level you can keep a combo alive for 1 miss. Higher charisma will make the fan appreciation meter/life bar shrink slower, at highest level you get 1 free save from failure. Higher style will mean more points, at highest level you start the song with a full multiplier.

hmm... for RB2, I would like to see.
Career mode, Story mode,
Online World Tour, Battle of the Bands (like facing Guns N' Roses, Metallica, DragonForce or other RB bands around the world.
a keyboard would be nice, definitly more guitarists, probubly not double bass drums, vocalist option for the drummers and guitarists, more outfits, design your own guitars, drums, etc,
and it wouldn't hurt to put some DragonForce songs in it like Through the fire and flames, Operation ground and pound, and soldiers of the wasteland.
thanks for listing everbody

a way i think the keyboard could possibly work is while playing the keyboard you would have to look down at it, and as the song goes on the keys would light up with like a red light or something and you would have to play it.

If Rock Band 2 is coming, it should come in the next game generation, when all three systems are out (W2, PS4, X720).
But if that happens, I would like to see some buttons on the microphone. In my opinion, it would be a lot easier.
But the worst thing of all in Rock Band is the guitar. Seriously - improve the strumbar, make the buttons less noisy.

The only thing I wish you could do is add a rhythm and lead guitarist instead of having just bass and guitar cause sometimes bass gets boring. i remember on GH1 when you had the choice between rhythm and lead such as "Ziggy Stardust" which was really fun playing with my friends.
To just summarize this, I wish they put a lead and rhythm guitar part into the game (not necessarily more guitars just playing lead and rhythm instead of guitar and bass) Rock Band is the greatest!

I want the entire setlist of RB2 available as a $50 song pack on XBL/PSN for people who own RB and don't want to switch discs. Since GH2 and GH3 came out with redesigned instruments, maybe HMX could try to design a drumset with more bounce for RB2

see i had a few ideas for Rock Band 2 myself. If they made a Rock Band 2 that had all the features of Rock Band 1 plus a lot more that would be great so you don't have to keep on switching discs if you wanna play different songs. it could also have modified versions of all the songs from Rock Band 1 and all DLC rom Rock Band 1 as well (for maybe rythm guitar, keyboards and backing vocals). i also had a few ther ideas:
there could be a rythm guitar option for a 5 piece band and since there isn't a keyboard for all the songs maybe the vocalist can also be a keyboardist somehow. it would be fun to play the keyboard and sing.
i was also thinkin of a backing vocals option. there could be microphone stands for guitar, bass, drums and (if they add a rythm guitar) rythm guitar.
what i want the most though is the option to create your own songs with guitar, bass, drums, vocals and if rythm guitar and keyboards are added) rythm guitar and keyboards. i heard about GHIV and i don't wanna go back to GH so i think that a create your own song program would be awesome.

With the focus on GH4 and Rock Revolution on drums, the best thing Rock Band could do to trump them is to release a MIDI to Rock Band converter so that any electronic drum set could be used to play the game.

I LOOOOVVEEEE this idea!!! Also, I was about to post a multi-monitor output would be awesome. The same way you see audio monitors on a stage for each individual musician, a separate monitor for each position would be awesome. Especially where the vocalist is concerned. Most people have really got to strain to read the words on a 27" television when playing with a band.
Unfortunately, Bush's "New Deal" didn't include a 40+ inch HDTV in every pot.

after some serious thought i came up with this
rock band 2 wouldnt really be a new multiplayer game, but just a new "venue" and tour game only
the game would come with xxx tracks meant only for venues
it wouldnt have its own multiplayer mode(read further and youll understand)
it would be more of a track pack, with achievements/a tour to work with
and to top it off, all the tracks would be downloadable to your hard drive in order to play with with the platforms MAIN game rock band 1....so they would function as dlc in rock band 1, but would have their own tour for 2/leaderboard etc etc for tour scores
doing it in such a way as this would upease anything that may be said about the game not being backwards compatible, and in truth, itd be a new tour for diehard fans, and for everyone else, more like a dlc disc with songs you CAN ONLY GET on that disc
DeadManDrumming

Redo instruments (With Backward compatibility of old ones) such as Symbols etc (YES i'm talking about the GH design.) Additional instrument, Keyboard of course just be able to only have 4 people play obviously taking one out for a Keyboard (Maybe a unique bass instrument I am not sure on that idea though). ALL songs from RB 1 disk to ALL DLC transfers over to RB 2.
The midi idea from U2 would work perfectly for people with real E-Drum sets and would probably out-do the Create a song feature of GH:4. BWT online, Bass solo tour, more stuff to buy, better drums to buy (Let me get some famous drummers kits), Band Battle mode of some sort (maybe we can only see their score while online, but have it as a Duel system link up onto 2 different TV's for home style playing just show the opponents score as well).
An updated with more feature in BWT. When I go into a Battle of the band I wanna see some sort of a goal instead of just "beat the gig to beat the band in BWT." Like at least score more then X amount of stars to conquer the battle of the band concert! Custom instruments all around of course.
Thats all......
