What do you people feel would be the best way to end the career mode for RB?
I honestly cannot think of just one song that would be perfect for the ending of this game.
A little help please?

Stairway to Heaven would definately fit as an ending song, but probably not for Rock Band. It's guitar and singing in the first half of the song, and then finally becomes a full band in the middle. I think that would be a better ending song for Guitar Hero III.

good point but it should definatly be some immortal song that will be loved forever just to carry on the GH tradition(free bird) maybe bohemian rhapsody or sympathy for the devil.
id also love some weird completely unexpected song to the finale. like the safety dance :D

Dude, although i don't agree with the way you worded you're answer as i believe everyone is entitled to their opinion, i do have to agree that i didn't intend on people just listing their favorite songs. I wanted people to list songs that would be a great ending to the game based on the genre of the game itself. Think of it more like a prediction rather than what you want. Personally I don't think it's going to be able to be predicted correctly until it's released by the makers.
Good call on the song though

I always thought that an encore should really be the song that everyone would have their lighters out and just enjoy the music. Stairway to heaven would work really well! In Guitar Hero 3 of course... sucks that it wouldn't work so well here. I'd do it anyways just for fun but... Instead I would pick "Hero of the Day" by Metallica on their S&M CD (Not a cover... that would be hard to do lol, they would have to cut the orchestra and the guitar and all sorts of stuff...). I know It's probably not a choice alot of others would make, but I love it and it would just finish the game perfectly.
Actually... I was thinking... you know what, I'll make my own topic. Check out first song topic for more song action.

i don't think he literally meant immortal and immortal wouldn't fit as an encore. maybe something from at the heart of winter but nothing else.

I think perhaps the best way to end it will be with AC/DC's "Hell's Bells". It's a great, heavy song that is very well known and loved. It would be even better if they kept the song under wraps so no one knew beforehand that AC/DC would be included.
That being said, "Won't Get Fooled Again" would also be a great way to close it

The middle four minutes are composed of incredibly slow guitar repeating five seconds over and over. Sure, the solos are fun, but Hotel California is a good song that just wouldn't fit in Rock Band. And I don't really remember the drums or bass being particularly exciting.
Something by Iron Maiden should be the final encore. Hoping for Rime of the Ancient Mariner, because it's epic. If we want a normal length song, Where Eagles Dare or Aces High would be pretty kicking.

I'll humbly nominate Rock & Roll Band by Boston or Foreigner's Juke Box Hero. Both are excellent songs by big rock bands and, if you look at the lyirics, are a pretty good summation of what this game is all about.

In response to the "Won't Get Fooled Again" followers, I highly doubt they're gunna release the final song in the game in the first set of tracks released. But I do agree, it'd be fun to finish with. Nomatter what it is, we know it's going to be some sort of anthem, and it's gunna kick ass. They haven't failed us yet.

anyway, i disagree with having a big famous rock song as opposed to a good challenging song. i would personally go with the human abstract's "nocturne", but to mix good vocals in i would go with something off of the mars volta's Frances The Mute

i actually half expected stairway to be the GH3 end song! only cos when you play GH1, it mentions freebird - which is GH2's last song and GH2 mentions stairway!
im not mentioning my preferred song here (*cough* rust in peace... polaris *cough*) as everyone seems to be doing, rather i want to see as a last song a classic song which is ridiculously hard on all band members.
a song i know, and a song where as soon as i see im about to play it i mess mself a little.
if there is such a thing i cant wait to see it!
but yeah, i agree. i smell a zepplin song on the way... (maybe not final though.)

Wouldn't it be funny if those playing Guitar Hero 3 ended on the Stairway To Heaven whilst those playing Rock Band ended on the Highway To Hell? I could definately envision that happening.
If Led Zeppelin got the final song in Rock Band, Achilles Last Stand might be a decent choice. I still believe that a ten and a half minute song is a bit too long for Rock Band but it might be acceptable in the final song... Even still, Achilles Last Stand is hardly a well known song and therefore a less than optimal pick for the Final Encore. Personally, I would like to see Pearl Jam's Alive as the final encore in Rock Band. That song rocks!

For difficulty, I would say Achilles Last Stand or The Song Remains the Same
But just for fun (prob second, maybe last teir) Dazed and Confused, The Rover, hell, Ill take anything as long as it isnt Kashmir, The Immagrant Song or Stairway
(Those three are repetitive and overrated IMO)

Wont Get Fooled Again would be great.
A challenge for all parts.
But I think it would be cool that there was a different final encore for each of the four types if carrers careers.
For example:

guitar = eruption

singing = bohemian rhapsody
I like this kinda idea best, cause it offers a good deal for everyone.
Band - No sure, maybe won't get fooled again.
Drums - 2112 by Rush. The drums in any Rush song would work, though.
Singing - Defiantly Bohemian Rhapsody. It's a good challenge.
Guitar - Either Stairway or Eruption. Both crazy-good guitars. Stairway basically cause that'd be amazing, kinda like a "take that, GH3, we have the most famous rock ballad type thing in history". Throw that in with Bohemian Rhapsody and you sales just skyrocketed. :D
And if there's gonna be a Dragonforce song, I think it should be My Spirit Will Go On. This one actually has a noticable bass part so I think it'd be pretty cool for all parts.

After reviewing my list of 2,304 songs on iTunes, I have come to an official winner after a bracket-style tournament that took over 32 hours to complete, where the losing song was erased from my iPod, leaving only this song left for me to listen to for the rest of eternity. No, I'm joking, but for a final encore, I think there's one simple choice, if Zep is reachable, Rock And Roll, baby. Maybe a little lack of emphasis on the vocals, but that's what the tambourine is for, no?
Akaymay
08-10-2007, 06:00 AM
As I said in a different topic a while ago. The Final Encore is very hard to come up with. It has to be a song that EVERYONE will love, yet still be very challenging. Like Freebird. Never really got into Skynyrd, but who doesnt love a crazy solo? Yet not a mindless solo like most Dragonforce songs. And Bark at the Moon. No matter what kind of music you listen to, Ozzy is always to root. Rock, obviously ozzy. Goth/emo, people can relate to ozzy because he's like "The ****ing Prince of Darkness". Hardcore, nice fast guitar riffs, everyone likes it. Ozzy was just an awesome choice. Now, we'd have to find a song that EVERYONE will like, but at the same time, be challenging. So people who are suggesting Weezer, and all other bands, not everyone likes them, it has a limited fan base. People would be very VERY dissapointed. It has to be a song that EVERYONE will go like "What!? Really!? This song is crazy!!" when they see it, not like "Aw..dude, this song sucks..".

Ok after reading all seven pages of this thread, I notice a lot of people want Stairway. While I can understand why you would, it is very unlikely. Yeah, it would be/is an amazing encore song...for Guitar Hero or for vocals alone. There isn't any bass and the drums don't come in til later in the song. If they do divide the peripherals into individual games with different final encores, then maybe Stairway would go into the guitar one. But until we know for sure, we can only assume that there is gonna be one universal final encore. In this case, I think good final encores would be any of the following:
DICLAIMER: NONE OF THESE SONGS ARE "MY FAVORITE". I JUST THINK THEY'D BE COOL ENCORES.
- Grand Illusion - Styx
It has a pretty good drums section, the vocals are good, as well as the guitar, and if I'm not mistaken, there's a pretty good bass throughout the whole song, but that could be a piano. I can't tell. Someone wanna help me decipher the bass or lack therof on this one?
- Suite Madame Blue - Styx
I'm not a big Styx fan, but this song would make a very good encore song. It's not one of their most popular songs but the guitar and vocals are a challenge, there's a pretty decent bass line (again, not sure) and the drums are pretty cool.
- Rock and Roll Ain't Noise Pollution or It's a Long Way To the Top (If You Wanna Rock N Rool) - AC/DC Both these songs are pretty good and are very encore-ish. The vocals are pretty challenging, whether male or female. I know people are gonna find reasons why they shouldn't be encores, but just the general message of the songs make them great encores. And hey, we've all heard Shook Me All Night Long, these are a lil less known, but just as amazing. I just don't know what they'd do for the bagpipe part. Bagpipe peripheral, perhaps? :D
Of the confirmed songs, I think the one so far that is most likely to be the Final encore is "Won't Get Fooled Again". It has a good mix of everything and is challenging. This is most likely gonna be the final encore.
Or maybe I'm wrong. Hey, there's a first for everything. :D
Ok, that's my two cents. I'm done.

Personally i'd love a live version of either
Fleetwood Mac - Go Your Own Way
or
Eric Clapton/Derek And The Dominoes - Layla
I second Journey, either Dont Stop Believin' or Wheel In The Sky.
I hope one of the faster, rockier songs by Guided By Voices gets in for a bonus song, maybe Captains Dead, Motor Away, Cut-Out Witch or Everywhere With Helicopters.
Also, i'll put in a good word for The Eels with either Souljacker pt.2 or Hey Man, Now Your Really Living, many of their songs seem to be too slow for this game but the above two are quite fast and fun, the gravely vocals of Mr. E would also be a blast at least for me.
Or, The Mighty Mighty Bosstones with So Sad To Say, Cherry Poppin Daddies with Irish Whiskey or God Is A Spider.
There are certain songs that i really enjoy hearing that unfortunately dont seem to be all that complicated when they get shown in rhythm game format. Sultans Of Swing for example, love the song, but it isnt the most challenging song to play (at least going by the GH2 hack i have).

Whether or not you think the song is perfect, I think you'd have to admit it's not widely known. It might be good for a final teir song, but I think the final song should be challenging, AND something that is well-known, like Free Bird was.
If 90% of players get to the final encore and go "WTF Rainbow?!! who are these people?" I don't think it would be a good choice. It should be a song that when everyone sees the title alone, makes them think "oh cool!" or at least is something they recognize.

why should it be well known though?? if its the most perfect song for an encore why let a little thing like ignorance get in the way??

Because pissing off everyon who's ignorant (and I'm sure you'll agree that it's a pretty large population) could have a pretty big impact on profit margins?
I think the final encore is something that has to appeal to the masses, to some degree, for the overall success of the game.

do you honestly believe that one song (granted yes a final encore) would damage profits??

Well, maybe I'm more worried about hearing all the stupid *****ing... Still if you could choose between two songs for a final encore, and one was maybe better suited but you'd never heard of it, while the other was a song that you knew and loved, which would you be more excited about playing?
I guess, that's the point I'm really trying to get at.

i'd be happier with a song that's much better suited for the game/unknown and that i may end up loving after i get to play it. sure at first i'll be like wtf but if its as fun as star gazer for example then in the end i'll be like "hey thats a good song right there" , get on my comp and d/l their discography or at least the album that the song is on.
same thing happened to me during gh2. when going through career mode i had never heard the song Stop by janes addiction and ended up liking it. yes granted that isn't a final encore but its an example of how opinions can change

I'll agree with you on that. But if the average person sees a playlist of a bunch of stuff they've never heard of, they'll be less likely to get the game at all. I suppose that's not a fair argument if we're just talking about the final encore. But I think the last song of the game does set a sort of benchmark for the rest of the playlist.
Most people aren't as open-minded about music, and as critcial as people outside these forums are about the playlist already (although GH forums should probably be ignored) it could make the game look bad to the outside onlooker if the final encore is something less well-known.
