Since it seems like Rock Band is going to be doing something big at the Penny Arcade Expo, what is every one expecting/hoping to see at PAX?

Personally I'm expecting at least a release date and some new songs and hoping for pricing and bundling to be finalized.

Finalized instruments and a release date. Maybe some announced songs.

But I think the playable portion will just be the E3 demo. I remember back when GH2 had a demo at E3 the next demo featured most of the same songs and the actual demo we got in the OPM disc had only 4 songs.

This is what I want from PAX:

Pricing Released
New Songs Announced
Official Release Date Announced

What I expect to see and hear from PAX is simply a few new songs, I'm going to go out on a limb and guess about 6. Maybe the confirmation of Nevermind as DLC, and probably some new gameplay videos.

I'd say a few songs, hopefully the price and an earlier release date would be awesome.

And the unveiling of seans new stache

I don't know what the PAX is exactly. Someone should make a thread explaining what it is. I elect The Paska to do it, because Paska is very Paska-like...and we know what kind of qualities a Paska-like person has, so do it up!

Anyone else may, but I'm just sayin'....

Here's what I think:

5 new songs
release date (I'm still thinking early to mid October)
final price
a DLC list
Online play demo
Full playable versions of the new released songs

Never will there be a demo of Rock Band. That dosent make sense. As I said before:

"Hey guys heres a guitar only game you can play with your other GH guitars" is not something they want to get across.

Unless you meant them showing off online modes in PAX, which doesnt really make sense either.

Im expecting at least one new song, or at least Im hoping. PAX and Harmonix seem like good buds, so you never know, there could be some big song announcements or features revieled.

I just hope packaging info, prices and a release date. Of course, a couple more songs will always be welcome... :)

They have to pretty much release all the essentials. It's necessary. It's the last major convention of video games for the year. If they didnt release this information there, they couldn't release it anywhere else. Even if they release it on the website, not all the major video game sites and magazines will get it.

If you read the developers blogs I think it was Sean that said there is going to be a 'playable booth at PAX' Maybe for RBII we will get a public demo but not now.

I don't think anything will be announced, and it'll just be people playing the same demo that was at E3

08-08-2007, 03:08 PM
I predict that they will date the game with an official release date, Announce the prices of the instruments, confirm the Nevermind DLC rumor posted in the latest Gamepro issue, we will get some more gameplay videos of songs we haven't seen videos for, in-depth info on the online features, and finally new songs (my guess would be 4 new ones).

Oh yeah almost forgot, hopefully they add at least Enter Sandman to the playable demo that's going to be there if not the new songs that I hope they announce (c'mon HMX at least 1 SONG!).

Oh god. I don't want to see another video of Suffragette City or Main Offender for that matter for a while. I am going to be sick of those songs before the game comes out. I want to see some (Don't) Fear The Reaper, Enter Sandman, Tom Sawyer, and Rockaway Beach!

Yea I'm definately hoping for a good few songs, at least 4. I expect nothing else other than that, but hope for lots of new info. Cmon, give us a reason to pick RB over GH3! (hah just kidding. I need no reasons.)

E for All is in October. Granted it isn't quite the place for big announcements yet since its the inaugural year but it is one more major convention ;)

I just hope they have a decent number of demos set up so there isn't a 230982309 hour line to play.

I guarentee at least SOME info will come out of PAX. It will have been 1.5 months since E3 and probably about time to give some new tidbits. Plus we'll be getting more shaky-cam footage from the public demo. If nothing else, the Tycho and Gabe will probably beg HMX to let them post some new info on their site.

Yeah, but PAX is like the new E3. It's a huge expo and everyone is going to get in on it. Harmonix is pretty much forced to reveal the essentials. i.e. the release date and price. If they didnt, word wouldnt get around as much, and people would still be confused. As you said, E for All isnt that big, granted I never heard of it. Not as many reporters and such will be there. But PAX, that is an important expo.

TheTogfather
08-09-2007, 12:45 AM
I think we've got a very good shot of getting a big, borderline major, info-dump during PAX. Sean said himself on this forum how crazy it was that the Penny-Arcade guys listed Harmonix right along side the big three, Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo, as PAX exhibitors. Tycho RAVES about Rock Band and Harmonix all the time on their website. The HMX crew are letting the PA guys 'store' the instraments and software at their offices during the week prior to PAX. Needless to say, these two entities have a very good relationship, and I can't imagine a better way for Harmonix to reward the constant shout-outs and praise then by dropping some big-time bombs on us. Especially if they stay completely quiet from now until then...the public will be practically THROBBING in anticipation by then. My prediction:

6 new songs announced, all playable in public demo
Second album DLC announced, either Nevermind or a different one
Announcement of deal with another major band similar to the Metallica announcement
Release date confirmed
Pricing/packaging confirmed
Some mystery feature, hopefully related to online play

actually, kinda technically E For All is the new E3 :p
check it: Future of E3 discussion (http://www.eforallexpo.com/node/66)
E For All discussion (http://www.eforallexpo.com/node/102)

But as E For All still gains it legs, PAX is definitely the other (besides E3) North American games tradeshow for announcements. Even after it gains it legs, it probably won't be great for announcements anyways because of its date. I would guess to see more "part 2" type announcements adding to one made at E3 or PAX.

The date and price certainly can't wait too long but I just don't see PAX as an announcement-type convention. I see that kind of information coming in a big press release, not at a show like PAX. But, I'm not uber familiar with PAX tbh; have companies used it in the past to make big announcements? There aren't any press conferences during the show, are there?

PAX has had big events with Guild Wars in the past. They have revealed some information at PAX in the past, as well as had special events, new tournament types, etc taking place at PAX. It really isn't intended to be a press-release/press-conference type event, but it's a bottom-up approach: go directly to the gamers, the media will pick up on it later.

Exactly. Our motive for going to PAX is two-fold - we think the Penny Arcade team is awesome (seriously, they visited our offices a few years ago and we were like thirteen year old girls at a Beatles concert), and we think it is high time that we bring the game to the people. It very much isn't about press releases, press conferences, or...press.

Yah, I remember Tycho's write-up about that trip (think they even did a comic about it, something about breaking your proto-type or something). They seemed equally in awe of you all as you apparently were of them...like how coyotes are just as scared of you as you are of them...that kinda thing.

I want the new Rokk song to be played (you know there will be one and in full effect on Rock Band) since there's gonna be Freezepop playing anyway.

That's my leap of faith prediction.

Otherwise finalized instruments and new songs are where my moneys at.

Edit: That's a stretch. Let's say finalized instruments and leave it at that. BUT PLEASE PLAY THE NEW ROKK SONG!

Yeah I'm adding that to my "hopes" for what ever they show at PAX. Hell I'd be happy if all they put in is "Super Sprode"

I guess it's possible that nothing major will be announced but with the changes that happened to E3 PAX seems like the best place to bring the rock.

Just to reiterate, don't expect to hear some huge announcements at PAX. PAX isn't really like that. It is more of a chance for people to get hand-on time with games. Now might there be a tidbit or two that comes out? You never know. Will it be the torrent of information that was E3? Not so much.

Like you have said in another thread, community people need to get their hands on this. If there isn't a big annoucement, at least throw us a bone by giving a more reputable and respectable "civillian" member of our community get a hands on. We'll take over from there. :D

What about Leipzig? I mean, the Games Convention is still the biggest european videogame fair there is. (We already had game announcements (Mario Strikers) and game mode announcements there (Metal Gear 3 online mode) We have press conferences by the big three... it's the european E3... some puplishers take it more seriously, some less, unfortunately)
