I can imagine that using the pad to play the drums would be entirely possible, although I don't know for sure.
However, why would one want to do this? It'd take all the fun out of it.
but...don't count on being able to sing with the X360 wireless controller, because that's just asking too much.

I'm pretty sure nothing has been mentioned about this. I think they will though. Of all the instruments it's the one that's probably easiest to manage on a controller (drum pads to thumb buttons and pedal to a trigger). Plus the people who decide to buy it with out the drums will get a taste and probably want to upgrade.

Hmm...this is the second very good point I've seen you bring up. By not making it possible to play with a x360 controller, that would make it to where people wouldn't get a taste of what they're missing. They pretty much have to make it X360 pad compatible.
Are you sure you're not secretly a member of Harmonix, playing with us?

One problem with the ps3/360 controllers being used is that it could throw off the leader boards if it's to easy. So that could potentially infuriate the the hard core. You never know, they may have away of knowing if is a person is using the drum kit or not so this issue may be already solved... or not even relevant if the controller can't be used. I've got my fingers crossed either way.
Oh and to parastroke7 thank you and no I'm not but I wish I had a "you are a marketing plant" pic to put here right now. :)
