View Full Version : Things you DON'T want to see in RB

So there's a thread for things you want to see in Rock Band, how about a thread for things you don't want to see.

1. Song Editing - Rock Band has said they want this to be as genuine an experience as possible. I remember in Guitar Hero there were some solos added, and it just felt wrong. Just leave the songs as they are. Including the lyrics please

2. Power Ups - No thank-you.

3. Only friends in your band - I'm coming from the Nintendo side of things here with their stupid friend codes. It makes it almost impossible to find people to play with. Please have a lobby or something where you can find somebody to play with. And make it so anybody can play with anybody

Please add your own

1. ) An overdose of today's music, such as bands heavily featured on MTV.
2. ) Unrealistic drum map-out. Make it very difficult to play on the higher difficulties!
3. ) Linkin Park. No no no no no no no, and no.
4. ) A shortage of songs that I personally like ( but that is a personal preference. Everyone has theirs.)
5. ) Power ups, definitely no powerups. This isn't Mario Kart Hero Band.
6. ) Too much overtone of one style of rock, such as Emo, or Screamo, or Metal. Same goes with the wardrobes. If I want to have class, I don't want to be stuck with Mohawks and cutoff shorts.
7. ) The feeling that I'm not playing drums.

This applies to any video game:

I don't want to see a bunch of lame token rewards for doing completely tedious or boring things. (Congratulations you played that song 10,000 times! Here's a new hat!)

Basically reward me for things I'd want to do - don't dangle a carrot in front of me and tell me there's something I need to do.

(venting agression over a few unrelated games I recently played)

I don't want....

Boring fret board backgrounds. All the gameplay videos shown so far show a black background.....but that is lame to look at. Some people bring up the argument that this new fret board background shows off more of the band playing, crowd, etc....But in the way GHII is set up, you can already see plenty...

But you only had 1 or 2 boards and nothing going along the top. 4 players gets kind of crazy. And was I mistaken or did some of the boards have a semi-transparent pattern on them? Maybe that's adjustable?

Songs that are boring to play. No ultra-repetitive stuff like 1,2,3 1,2,3 1,2,3....1,2,3...you get the point. Or repetitive long power cords throughout the whole song.

I know some songs are repetitive but I hope they don't end up in Rock Band.

Personally, I don't want edits of the lyrics. But, I'm torn... my kids (and their friends) play GH at my house... and I think that's awesome. Instead of Hannah Montana, they're rocking out to Rage Against the Machine and Black Sabbath... which I fully encourage. But, if Killing in the Name had uncensored lyrics, $&!^ they wouldn't be able to play. I know I hate censorship, but if this is the price I must pay to teach my kids rock, I'll do it. I apologize if the rest of you have to suffer with me.

... that's just to comment on the first post. Now, on topic:

Things I'd hate to see:
1) Powerups
2) Boss battles
3) Any pop-punk band.. (Sum41, Blink 182, Good Charlotte)
4) An online mode that actually sucks. (my greatest fear of the game so far, since they're not keen on releasing much info on it)

I wouldn't like to see...

Images of mutilated corpses and disgusting pictures that pop up and random intervals during performances...

What? I really WOULDN'T want to see that!

1)Fall Out Boy, P!ATD, any bands like that.
2)Power-ups
3)A dead crowd. I want some movement, some action, some sorta response that isn't generic when I initiate Star Power or whatever it's called in Rock Band.
4)A weak playlist. I would like a lot of replay value on this game, seeing as I'm gonna spend a ton of money on it.
5)Only being able to save one band. Saving a few would be nice.

I'll probably think of more later.

I don't want:

No Chuck Taylors (the quintessential rock shoe)
Any Nu Metal (Limp Bizkit, Linken Park, any other band that uses a 'k' to replace other letters)
Unlocks (like clothes and main-game songs) with anything other than in-game money or career progress.
Dragon Force (blech)
Songs that are difficult without being fun (see Dragon Force)
Songs without Bass guitar (unless it's harmonized guitars, then maybe I'll let it pass)
$2+ DLC
Lots of 'modern rock'; most of it isn't that good, and isn't really that interesting (also see Nu Metal, Dragon Force above). I could do without Go With the Flow, prolly the least interesting QotSA song I've heard.

I disagree with this. I don't want to see a RB that has too many overly easy songs just so people can 5 star them.

Jordan wasn't fun to play, either was PBF or Six. But they were a challenge. If it weren't for me trying like hell to 5 star Six I probably would have stopped playing GH2 when I 5 starred everything in Expert. The songs were fun because they were challenging. As will Dragonforce in GH3 be a challenge.

So far the set list of RB doesn't compare to the difficulty announced in GH3.

I disagree with this. I don't want to see a RB that has too many overly easy songs just so people can 5 star them.

I don't want to be able to 5-star everything, I just want songs to be included because they're fun to play, not because they're hard.

Freebird is hard, but not really that fun to play (do nothing for 3 minutes, then fail). After a few tries on Expert I finally got tired with it and still haven't beaten it. It feels like work.

On the other hand, Miserlou was hard, but more importantly fun. It was dynamic, you rarely repeated, and it had one heck of a hook. I'm nowhere near 5-starring it, but it's one of the few upper tier songs that I enjoy.

I will be so pissed if songs like Jordan or Dragon Force are main-campaign songs. They're only there to be super hard, and I don't want to have to play a boring song 20+ times just so I can advance. I want to enjoy challenging songs, not spend hours learning one riff so I can play it over and over to pass the song nobody likes.

In summary-
Hard and interesting: yes
Hard and boring: no

Play Guitar Freaks and tell me GH or RB is hard.

That's not what I'm trying to say. I value entertainment more than difficulty. Of course, I don't want RB or GH to be a pushover game. I like being challenged, but I find it secondary to my enjoying the songs. I'd rather have really enjoyable songs that are somewhat difficult than super difficult songs that aren't very enjoyable.

The other point I want to make is that a super hard song in the campaign frustrates people and makes them want to stop playing. I think songs like Jordan and TTFAF have a place in the GH and RB franchises, but if they are part of the main game and hinder progress they lose their worth. They should be feathers in the cap of hardcore players, not stumbling blocks for anyone who wants to finish the game.

And I've never played Guitar Freaks, but the way you mention it makes me think it's not my kind of game. I don't think RB is going to be the kind of game that is wicked hard and only the most hardcore can play it. RB is about getting everyone together to have fun, and yes challenging themselves.

But most importantly, it's a game about enjoying yourself for the sake of enjoyment, not a game about "Can you play 32nd note tripplet patterns up and down the neck".

1)A lack of aviators. I love em and they're gonna be a staple to my rocker.
2)Slash or any other rocker that decides it's time to sell his soul to satan...
3)A lack of Homestarrunner/comedic refrences. One of the things that made the old GH so good was that is was rocking as hard as you could with a lil comedy thrown in there. That's what I want Rock Band to be like.

Too much metal music.

Not enough metal music.

There is only 1 deal breaker for me and RB:

Downloadable songs priced even remotely close to the GH2 song packs. 3 songs for $6.25? No thanks. I won't touch that price point with a 10 foot stick.

As for the conversation about super hard songs, the Heart and Flames song was confirmed to be a bonus. There's nothing wrong with that. For the hardcore, it's what makes these games fun, and there's nothing wrong with Harmonix/Neversoft catering to that. I'm definitely starting to burn out on GH2, and the only song I really practice anymore is Jordan. It's fun to have a challenge, as long as it's optional.
