View Full Version : My suggestion for Rock Band - REPLAY feature. PLEASE!!

One thing that I think would be a great addition to Rock Band would be to have a replay feature that allows you to go back and review your performance on each song. I brought this up as a suggestion for the Guitar Hero games, as well.
So many times, I go through a section and it "feels" like I nailed it, but then I look over and found that I missed a note. I'd love to go through and review my mistake (strum too early/late, wrong note/chord). This is especially true when there are elements of repeated riffs that I can almost get through, but I constantly miss 1 note to re-set my multiplier.
A replay feature that overlayed your ghost notes along the track would help improve my skill as much as Practice mode.
Please!

Isn't that basically what a practice mode is for though? If you know what notes you are missing, just use that, I don't think this would be that necessary. I would find it tedious and boring to watch the song I just played. It is an interesting idea, but I don't know how practical it would be.

I don't think it's all that necessary of a feature, but I certainly wouldn't be opposed to it.

Practice mode in GH is fine, but at Full Speed on Expert songs, when the notes are blazing by, I don't exactly know which note in a sequence is the problem. You could have speed controls in Replay mode to fast forward to the area that you wanted to watch.
Again, when practicing your HO/PO's in fast sequences, I'd like to know if my timing is off, and if so, am I always slow with one fret button. Then, I would know how to make that adjustment. As it is now, I just hear that missed note sound at some point during the sequence, but don't know how that note was missed.

Oh ok I get it, well this could be another addition to the practice mode and gameplay mode that would be cool, the ability to go back and look at where your notes hit, to see exactly how you're missing. The more I think about it, the better this idea could be for those who cannot tell what notes their missing, and how they are missing them. Seeing your notes overlayed with the actual notes could certainly help.

Not sure about this for the instruments, but when ive played singstar its always a good laugh to listen back to how it sounded. Would be good to save replays of your best band scores so then you could watch em back in like a concert mode, just to hear how well you performed (on which ever instrument) :)
Also, i know from playing GH that i dont really take in whats going on graphics wise as im too busy concentrating on thr fret board. With a replay mode id get to see what my character is actually up to (especially now that the character is customisable).

Personally, I'd rather have a replay function that excludes the fretboards/pitchbar so that I can watch a performance of the characters. I'm always focused on the fretboards and would love to see what the characters are doing the entire time. It'd be a lot of fun I think

Although, if they haven't thought of and implemented this already, then I would guess it's probably a little late to make it into this version.

I agree a lot there. In guitar hero i'm always trying to see what my person is doing when i'm playing but i end up missing loads of notes with it... It'll be even better with your own character and better animations!

I think a replay feature would be nice, yet also horrific. Say, if someone you were playing with had a horrible singing voice and you had to hear that again?
Agh.
Still, I'd like that feature. They have it in SingStar so you can hear yourself butchering songs. It's classy, but dangerous.

I wouldn't use it, so no thanks. I think it's pretty obvious in songs what parts you keep messing, and no replay will help you fix it. Playing that section again will, which is what practice mode is for.

Yup. That about sums it up.

Replay mode would be fine. As long as it's not cutting in to development resources for more important features.
It probably wouldn't be that hard to do. Basically they could do it like most racing games with POV switching, telemetry and HUD settings (or in this case fret boards w/ or w/o button presses).
Personally I don't see my self using it much, but again if it's easy (hypothetically) to implement theres no reason not to put in a feature that could satisfy (if this thread is any indication) a lot of people.

Adjustable transparency on the fretboard/vocals section would be nice...

I'd like to see replays, but only in practice mode. Something that often tripped me up in GH2 was figuring out exactly where I was missing at full speed. Sure it's easy to hit stuff when it's slowed down, but when I'm then trying for a full speed run and missing, I'd really like to be able to go back and figure out exactly where so I could know what to work on.
So give me a replay in practice mode where it flags exactly what I missed and whether I was early or late or had wrong buttons pushed down, etc.

Definitely a good addition to practice mode. Instead of seeing the region of the song and the % of notes you hit at the end of the song, watch your own game and see what EXACT note you missed. Not a bad idea at all.

I think you people are missing the bigger picture for this feature. Imagine your buddies all nailing a perfect peformance, and having a copy of the replay to distribute online. Imagine being able to browse top replays from expert players and seeing the best Rock Bands perform. This would allow for even fake bands to achieve some degree of fame/notoriety. The highest tier of performances would get circulated and receive popularity.
Right now YouTube is flooded with Guitar Hero videos based on this premise, some of theme QUITE popular.

I'm guessing you mean in a way like the halo 3 replays are suppose to be?
I'm kind of hoping to see some features like that integrated in to the website kind of like forza 2. Basically it'll be Rock Tube or Band space in here (well, hopefully better then that).
