View Full Version : Shouldn't the bass only have to play 4 buttons?

I noticed in a gameplay picture that the bass had 5 buttons to play in songs. It doesn't really make sense to me because bass guitars don't have 5 strings. I know that a guitar doesn't have 5 strings but it seemed stupid to use the orange button on an instrument that only has 4.

Geez. So I guess its safe to say the guitar only needs six buttons? Its not a matter of strings as much as it is frets. Do you even have any real hands on with instruments? Oh. nevermind....its your first post. Sorry NOOB! Didn't mean to insult you like that.

On that note. Basses can have six strings as well. Hell, they can have more than that.

Good God. My little brother (9 years old) has the same thoughts. Just because a bass, generally, only has four strings does not mean that you don't still move your hand to play it.

I agree with IbanezBassist_v2, simply enough.

Everyone I know ask this! I shall refrain from using the flamethrower.

The buttons are frets! Not strings. *sigh* Never learned bass or guitar before? It's common sense to think "frets".

Heh, Guitar Hero III is making them to look like strings.

Are you serious?

As a bassist/guitarist I am ashamed. Did they do no research? Damn.

Is that Dimebag Darrel? In the screenshot? Sorry for the off-topic post, but I'm highly curious...

I'm pretty sure it's the new Axel Steel.

That was my next guess, but the tattoo on the right arm and the red beard are making him look a lot like Darrell...

Tell this guy bass guitars can only have 4 strings...

Hell, might as well tell Geddy Lee he can only play 4 strings.

The buttons have always been considered frets, not strings. That's why you can hold green and red down at the same time for a red note, because you're holding down 2 frets on the same string.

If you think Bass only has 4 frets... Well, that's a different issue.

Another example of GH going down to the bad place.

Well then again depends on your feelings for Dimebag. Mine? Not so great.

Good thing this guy didn't know that the new guitar controller has another set of buttons on the bottom of the fretboard or his head might have exploded.:D

By the way, have you ever heard of a 5 string bass?
They do exist, so does the 6 string bass.

Yeah that's what i was thinking.. maybe it's a tribute to him of some kind.

Well I noticed that the picture didn't have his "Cowboys From Hell" tattoo, so it could be Steel. It'd be nice to see Dimebag in the game, though.

Whoever he was, his beard was EPIC! Almost Leonidas epic... almost... I would grow a beard like that if I had a nice contract from road runner and didn't have a business casual type job.

On the debate of bass.... there is a 12 string out there... I can't link because of said job, but def. look it up. The guy plays Mario Theme if I recall correctly.

Business casual? And you didn't commit suicide yet? You're a bigger man than I.

It is tough, especially since I come home, Office Space style, and as soon as I open my door the first thing I see is my Kerry King Warlock leaning against the computer desk, reminding me of my laziness to not record and actually attempt to go out and get that deal...

Also Bass related, I would support the 4 button idea IF, and I am recycling an already stated idea here, there was a button underneath the strum bar that acted as your slap button. Nothing would be cooler than slapping a jam out and making a funny face doing it.

I'm gonna assume part of the confusion has to do with the fact that playing chords in RB/GH involves holding down more than one button at a time, which more accurately simulates the string representation rather than the fret representation.

So while the guitar controller isn't a 1:1 representation of a real guitar, the official idea is that the buttons represent frets, and it's NOT supposed be one button per "string".

As a bassist, I know that not many of us can slap like some of the greats, AKA flea. Personally, I play Higher Ground like a friggin' fiend, but hey, maybe I'm just full of myself. Lol, anyway, the slap button would be a good idea, but I think for some it would just be stupid...

Why don't we just let this thread die already?

The guy had a question, people answered quickly. Now stop!

What's the point of coming to a forum if your gonna discourage conversation? If the thread lives on how are you suffering?
