View Full Version : How Bad Do You Want an Aftermarket Drum Kit?

We all know the drums leave much to be desired, so how much would you be willing to shell out for an aftermarket kit that met all your needs? Also, what features would you expect at your price point?
I'd pay $150-200 for a kit that was durable, sensative (maybe adjustable sensativity), and had more adjustablity with the head positions (adjust the head positions individually).

I honestly don't care about adjustable/re-arrangeable pads. All I want in a RB drum set is:
-Durability
-Accuracy: As an expert drummer pad misses are the worst thing ever.
- For a kit that will give me this^^, I'll spend around $80-$90
Bonuses:
-Great Rebound
-Low noise
- For a kit that will give me all of this, $120 tops.

all I'd really want are more durable heads, and a little bit of a sturdier base. THe kick pedal could use a little work but the most important thing is a more realistic feeling head and things like that...one that can hold up to actual drumming without breaking down.

I play mostly on drums and have had my game since Christmas. I guess I'm lucky because nothing has gone wrong with my drum kit so far (knock on wood).
I have, of course, read the hundreds of posts from people who are on their second, third or more kit. If mine broke I would be hard pressed to pay more than $100 for a kit I could really depend on working long-term. I payed more than $170 for the game and because I live in Canada and have a PS3 I pay $2.99 per DLC song and I've bought a lot of it. I think I'm shelling out enough money already.
My hope is that, in time, HMX will come up with a new model of their own drum kit that is much more reliable than the current one.

I'm just tired of constantly worrying about my kit breaking. I've broken 2 pedals but my 3rd is holding up well (Heel UP, people!). I'd like a durable kit that isn't too sensitive (no crosstalk) but always registers the hits properly. I don't really need cymbals, as the game has no way of letting you know when to use them (I am not a real drummer and would have to know the song real well in order to make use of the cymbals). Finally, I'd like the kit to come with some kind of rubber stopper or clamp that will hold it in place (or just the pedal) so my kit doesn't need to be tied to my chair.

how do you guys feel about a little box that you plug a midi drum kit into which sends out rock band drumkit signals?

Give me a kit that's as durable and responsive as the Drummania arcade controller and i'll pay $250 no questions asked.

Bingo.
My pedal is currently snapped in two places, making it entirely unplayable until my woodrock gets here.
My red drums isn't sensitive enough, so I taped it down.
My yellow drum isn't sensitive enough, but taping it down causes double-firing with red and yellow so I don't do it.
The noise is causing people to call security on me
Again: see Sskitzzo's response.

I'd pay 100-150 for one just because you can buy a real electric drum kit for like 300 off ebay. And sence I've never drummed before I'd rather buy that. Which 300 is cheap for any drum kit but I don't know much about them. But I also live in a apartment so I can't have a REAL drum kit haha

Haha I snaped my new bass pedal in a week or 2. But I super glued that **** and been trucking on that for the last week and its still holding. Not to mention I got a bit of a anger problem so I kinda broke my green pad off my drum kit. Which then I super glued it back on and its still holding even after 2 weeks of playing for hours and hours every day.

QFT... I've fixed my pedal twice, finally settling on making a... slight mod so I can use my real pedal with it ha. My pads MOSTLY work perfect, except for my red pad, which STILL gives me dead notes relatively often (in the 99%, but 1 in 100, depending on how you stroke the notes, still destroys your score in something like Run to the Hills)
Even with my mods, they're very difficult to get 100% (mostly 'cause of that damn red pad!) I'd shell out a pretty decent amount for a 100% set... >.>

I want a drum set that is durable and has no sensitivity issues. When I miss I want it to be sure that its my fault and not the drums!

Same here. I'll shell out about 150 at most for a new set but I'll wwant the quality of the ones shown at CES 08. But I'd wait till around May and buy it as a birthday gift for myself. Any other time of the year and I'll hear about how I spent more money of this game all year.
Also I am worried about noise complaints since Im a college student living in an apartment.

I'd pay 100 - 120 bucks for a set that includes most of what everyone else is saying.
Ie durable, quiet, responsive etc.
However, I'd really like to have an option for a double bass. That would make life so much easier with certain *cough*Blackened*cough* songs. :D

At first I came in at $150-$200 on the poll (bearing in mind, I'd have to pay more too for international delivery), but I seriously believe if such a kit became a reality and were getting rave reviews across the board, it'd be surprising just how many enthusiastic drummers would cough up the dollars.

I'd shel out about 200, probably more. Decent electronic kits aren't cheap. It would be 150 if it was the same kit, just not complete crap, and probably about 300+ if it was a roland kit or something.

Well, I have already stuck another $50 into it with gum rubber pads and a metal piece for the kick pedal... so I am good right now. The stand alone is $80, so I would be willing to pay about $125-150 for a good kit.

i don't see why a aftermarket kit isn't available.

Eh Rock Band itself cost about $160 or something. Just one instrument for $150 ? I think I'll just chill with my washclothes on my stock set for that price. I know a lot of people have issues, but I don't know how wise of a business decision it would be to manufacture such pricey sets.

Durability.
Silence.
Accuracy.
Independently adjustable heads.
For such a kit, I'd pay $100-150. If I could get a low-end "real" electronic drum kit and use it in RB, I'd gladly buy a converter box to hook it up. :)

i voted 0$ because if they are going to release something such as this, they should at the very least make sure that its not a piece of **** that breaks within days/weeks of purchase and even though i wont happen would demand that they make a new line of drums that you could exchange stock ones for because i feel they only owe it to the consumers to do so

Looks like I spoke to soon in my earlier post in this thread...green pad has stopped registering all hits. I noticed threads for mods to QM kits, but couldn't find one for EL models, which I have. Can someone post a link or tell me what the best mod is for my problem...thanks.

I think the holy grail would be a product that simply converts midi directly into rock band. That way all of us with electric kits just use our existing drums. I know I read early on that Harmonix was supposedly working on something like this for the 'expert' drummers out there. But as well all know, Harmonix has been silent on the topic.

We all know there are a lot of "real" drummers out there playing this game and are taking it pretty seriously. I actually don't see how anyone could play a lot of the harder songs on expert without actually being a real drummer.
What HMX needs to do for the hardcores is release an upgraded set, preferably using Roland V-Drum style mesh pads. They're very quiet and responsive, anyone who has ever played them knows what I mean. Now obviously even an entry level V-Drum set is around $1,500, but I think they could make a 4 pad setup of similar quality and sell it for around $200-250. I would gladly pay that, considering that this is probably not going to be the last Rock Band game that HMX releases and the set could be used for future games.

Yeah that would never happen, lol. Manufacturing a whole new line of drums sets cause most of the Rockband.com community isn't pleased ? For Free?! Now that's the worst business decision ever. Lol.
