I'm sorry, I just don't GET Dark Side of the Moon. There are a lot of concept albums I enjoy, such as The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway, Thick as a Brick, Zen Arcade, etc., but I just don't know the objective of Dark Side of the Moon. The album has good songs, chiefly Brain Damage, but I just can't listen to most of it. There's just something about having to listen to the organ buildups to nothing, then a minute of someone pressing their strings against their pickups, with only a few actual songs to go with it. I've tried to sit through the whole album at many points over the years, trying to do different activities to do it, but I just can't make it that far. Everyone always talks about how amazing and inspiring it is, but never really say why. Does anyone really know the best way to listen to it, or consider it, because it's such a hugely popular and acclaimed album, and I like to get quality musical experiences.

Dark Side is usually hit or miss. I have a lot of friends who love and and a lot who just think its boring.

The reason why I find it amazing is because its artwork. The transitions are flawless. The songs are just good by themselves, but when you listen to them in order its like a whole new experience.

I'm not sure if you like other Pink Floyd, but if you haven't heard their other stuff try listening to Animals or Wish You Were Here. I like both of those albums more than DSotM.

Also with listening experience. I like listening to Dark Side as kind of background music while I'm thinking. Also its pretty cool watching synchronized with the Wizard of Oz. It actually works really well and enhances the experience.

Does it really sync up to Wizard of Oz?! I've been meaning to do that!!!

Anyways, the album does rule, but there some songs I can live without. Personally I'd give Wish You Were Here a listen. In my opinion it's a much more complete album and has a great concept to it.

It works well syncing it up with the Wizard of Oz. Start the album after the MGM lion roars the third time, sit back and enjoy. If its done right the cha-ching from the song "Money" should sync up with Dorothy opening up the door to her house after she has landed and the movie goes from black and white to color.

Yeah, give the Wizard of Oz sync a try. You can purchase copies already synced for you in 5.1 surround as well, if you don't want to try the third lion roar. You have to get it so close for the sync to work well. Earlier point to check to see if syncing is correct is when Dorothy is balancing on the fence on the farm in the beginning...should sync up to the lyrics in "Breathe in the Air" The line sync is "balanced on the biggest wave"

If you were not listening to it while stoned, then you are missing out on its full potential.

I agree that Wish You Were Here should be tried.

There is dark side synced up with oz on google video somewhere. I've watched it a few times. Look on the web for a list of where it syncs up while watching it, and you really will notice many similarities between music and visuals

I love Pink Floyd. If I don't listen to Relics when I'm working, then I can't get any of my hard classwork done at all. I don't even mind albums getting artsy with the noises and stuff, but Dark Side takes it a little too far when it's just going on and on with the plinks and groans for several minutes at a time. I wouldn't mind if said sections were a minute or two long at the most, but it just seems to drone on, almost to the point of being one of those relaxation CD's you buy at hipster stores. I don't know, I guess I just don't appreciate it.

Drink a 12 pack, smoke a fatty, put on your headphones and you will find out why it is a classic that has been on the chart for 700 some odd weeks in a row.
Best selling album of all time, that will never be topped in sales.

I don't drink the sauce or smoke the stuff anymore, due to past problems, so maybe that's what I'm missing.

Forget Dark Side/Oz, has anyone tried The Wall/Alice In Wonderland? (You have to skip Comfortably Numb for it too work.)

Fu** that. If I can't listen to Comfortably Numb while watching that movie, then it's all for naught.
