View Full Version : HMX: Still plan on crashing the server every Monday?

I'm curious if HMX is going to revisit the Monday DLC announcements given the fact that the traffic takes the server down...

I think they may have underestimated the amount of traffic and connections the DLC announcements generate.

I'm also surprised that no one has brought up the issue. I felt "disconnected" yesterday, and I feel that I was lucky to get a peek at the actual songs before the site went down. (Well not that lucky.)

Any thoughts on how HMX could annouce the weekly DLC without all of the traffic killing our forum?

Don't worry, if they keep releasing DLC like this week's you won't have to worry about server traffic in the future.

It will sound like when you miss the last note on the big rock ending.

Yeah, I felt disconnected yesterday. Finally saw the DLC, went to word to create the weekly poll, couldn't get it posted all day long. Even tried at 9pm last night. Got on this morning and the mods had put someone else's poll in my thread. Oh, well... The sever going down had everyone scrambling I am sure they learned to post the upcoming DLC as early on Monday as possible to keep people (including myself) from hitting refresh every couple of minutes to see if they posted the news yet.

Yeah, it was my evil plan to try and keep the knowledge of DLC to myself, then I would have all the power!!!!

I too was probably one of the few lucky people who got to see what the DLC was before the whole server went down. I tried several times to connect, with no luck. I finally gave up yesterday at around 11pm.

I agree they should post it first thing Monday morning, so people aren't constantly refreshing and bringing down the whole server. Simple solution I think.

Well, they still do need to speed up the boards anyway. They aren't exactly speedy at the best of times.

The time has come for Rock Band to take the next step and move away from forum announcements. I think it is time Harmonix to start a newsletter that they email out instead of us coming to the forums to get announcements. I know I would sign up for it and it would be easier for all. We would not have to refresh the page constantly to get the information (not that I do:p) and Harmonix would not have to worry about crashes.

Monthly with a DLC list for that month (subject to change of course), news of what they are working on, and general BS that they think we might want to know. Hell, if you are short staffed, I will write the damn thing.

After a bit of a wait i got to see it, but yeah there were about 1500 people viewing in announcements, it was getting crazy~!

IMHO, they should make DLC announcements via a simple static HTML page that does not use the forum infrastructure. It's sufficient for posting a simple song list, and the load on the server is tremendously lower than that of using the whole forum system.

You'd think by now they'd be able to afford a bit of server capacity increase in general.

This entire web site is always slower than snail snot rolling uphill.

Seriously, there were like a few thousand people online yesterday viewing. How hard would it be to kick up the servers to accomodate more people visiting the site? The RB site is growing, and these problems will only worsen, if something is not done to fix it.
