Has there been any word on this?
I don't know how much the game is pushing the systems, but I would think out of most games, this one would have a good chance of being able to pull native 1080p off.
P.S. Not trying to start any system debate, but it would be good to know for those debating on which version to go for (i.e. pre-order :) )

ooooo yea, I'd like to know this as well. I just bought a 1080p TV (of course I only have the 360...) and was also wondering what the native resolution of this game would be. I'd imagine it's pretty high-res (higher than 720p) even for the 360... Anyone hear any word on this???

fwiw, I think GH2 360 was only native 720p, but of course that doesn't tell us anything about RB. The increased resolution of 1080p, imo, would be much more significant in RB with so much crammed on to the screen.
I'm really anxious to hear about this.

1080p please!

I can't play games in 1080p because I don't have a x360 vga cable. I can only go up to 1080i, but I'm happy with that.
Also, if the lag demon exists in anything other than 480p then you'll know where to find me...

personally idk. i can only afford to buy a 42" 720p tv (for rock band play lol). but maybe with ps3 hdmi hookup in 1080i should be ok. any ideas

I would almost garantee 1080p on ps3. Most major games are full hd on ps3 includeing all (or almost) by EA. With the new 360s now also haveing built in hdmi i dont see why the wouldnt push for full hd there too.

It will probably only go to 1080i/720p. If they support 1080p on PS3 that's just one more thing for them to test (making sure the UI fits on screen and such) and that will only mean a longer development time for the PS3 version.
Expect them to just go 1080i/720p.

this really only a consideration for the PS3 since the 360 auto scales the picture to any resolution extremely well(only a few VGA resolutions ar unsupportted so far). AS for lag again I've never had to adjust lag on my 360 for GH2 I see no problem with RB coming.

I thought lag was caused because the games were not designed for HD. If this game is designed for HD, wouldn't that eliminate the lag problem? In GH2, the only lag I ever experienced was when I played it on a 50" on the PS2. No sort of lag on 360 on a 32".

If it supports 1080i, I can't see how it would take longer for them to test 1080p, they're the exact same resolution, only one appears clearer.
On PS3 I'd expect 1080p to be the default resolution. The only PS3 game I can think of that doesn't do 1080p is Resistance and that includes their downloadable games.
Though, as long as it looks good enough on a 480i, I'll be happy.

Regardless, it has to be tested. When running a final pass on games, every inch of the game has to be tested, and if the game supports a certain resolution (from 480i NTSC to 576p PAL to 1080p) it has to be run through.
Trust me, the second you think you don't have to test something, the game will come back from GM submission with a stupid error QA missed :)
Personally I don't really care if it supports 1080p. While I do have a television that supports it, alot of people don't, and I don't feel it's essential for this game.

As far as I know, there arn't many, if any, games on the ps3 or 360 that actually support rendering at 1080p. There simply isn't enough fill rate on the consoles for most games to do that. What usually happens is that the game is rendered at some buffer size and then scaled to an output resolution of 720p, 1080i or 1080p. So even through your running your screen at 1080p, and your getting an output signal at 1080p, games are usually rendered at a lower resolution closer to 720p.

I think 1080i looks unbelievable. I'm happy enough with it being at that resolution.

I think it would be just 720p, 1080i/p is overkill the game isn't about flash visuals it's the Audio that matters the only thing we really need to see and be looking at the most is the note patterns and 720p is perfectly fine for that.

Quick facts.
#1. Both Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 promised 1080p games.
#2. Nearly every game for both consoles have displayed in 720p.
#3. The fill rate for a 1080p game causes slowdown.
#4. Playing a fast-paced music game like Rock Band requires optimal frame rates.
#5. There are three music sheets flying at you at once, plus a Karaoke game above.
I'm going to go with no. As much as I'd love to utilize 1080p, a vast majority of all the A+ titles on the next-generation formats have been displayed in 720p. Just because the number is bigger doesn't necessarily mean that the quality is greater in terms of gameplay.

I actually don't think 1080p is overkill for this game. The extra resolution isn't about flash. It's about adding crispness and clarity. I would argue that this is a game that needs the extra resolution more than most others because of so much on the screen you need to follow.
The notes in GH are big and cartoony, so they're pretty easy to see no matter what resolution. In RB, the style is much less cartoony, more detailed, and crisper, and the notes are smaller and more detailed. With three scrolling charts on screen, they get even smaller. The extra rez would also make the scrolling lyrics more defined, which I think would be the biggest benefit.
Of course, they shouldn't shoot for a higher native resolution if it effects frame rate, but if they could run @ 1080p native with no difference, I think it would benefit the game a lot.

I think you mean 720p at the least. I know for a fact with PS3, SCE requires a game to at least be 720p or 1080i.

Haha, NP. 720 FTW. Could you imagine this game cramped on to a NTSC TV at 480? God.

The following 21 titles are the only PS3 titles that do native 1080p:
All Pro Football 2K7
Blast Factor
Calling All Cars
College Hoops 2K7
The Darkness
Fantastic Four Rise of the Silver Surfer
flOw
Full Auto 2 Battlines
Harry Potter
Marvel Ultimate Alliance
MLB The Show
NBA ‘07
NBA 2K7
Ninja Gaiden
Pirates of the Carribean
Piyotama
Street Home Court
Super Stardust HD
Transformers The Movie
Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection
Virtua Tennis 3
As you can see, with the exception of The Darkness, these are basically low-end titles and downloadable content.
The fact that several people in this thread (incorrectly) state that most PS3 titles are 1080p shows that most people can't reliably distinguish between 720p and 1080p, and so it's not really that big of a deal.

You can get crispness and clarity with 720p.. 1080p is only really noticeable on screens 50" and above anything less and you wouldn't notice the difference from 720p so why bother when most don't have screens that big or even 1080p support most HD tv owners are in the 720p native area. if you have problems seeing in 720p then you may need to get your eyes checked.
