This isnt a thread begging for more Hendrix and ACDC, but Im confused on why we dont have them?
Ive heard Hendrix and ACDC in many commercials on TV...If they can get the license why cant HMX? Is it too much $$? I know HMX made a ****load off the game, so I cant see that being the problem...
Also how do they go about getting the rights to songs from dead artist such as Hendrix or maybe Elvis?

Artists can be very protective or what they align their image with. Hendrix and Porsche help each other form a brand persona standpoint. However, RB would do little to build the Hendrix brand image.
AC/DC on the other hand jsut flat out refuses to license their music. It's theirs, for them to play and use. No one else. Which I can respect.

To license music from dead artists you would have to work through their estate, which depending on the circumstances could be easy or quite difficult (e.g, Dave Grohl and Krist having to work with Courtney Love over the release of the Nirvana box set which took several years!).

Hendrix's estate will license his music.
AC/DC though, you haven't heard in a commercial. Often times they'll get bands to do an original work that sounds very very very much like the song they wanted though.

Hendrix allowed Harmonix to license Spanish Castle Magic for Guitar Hero, but it was under the condition that Harmonix would not record cover vocals for his music.
That worked fine for Guitar Hero, but it wouldn't really fly for Rock Band.
So unless they can get some useable masters for Hendrix's music, we might be out of luck.
