It doesn't really take a genius to figure out why Harmonix keeps putting out songs by the same bands and putting out songs from obscure bands such as B-52's, Bang Camaro, Crooked X, etc. Maybe it is because they are the only bands they can license at this point?
Also, to those who complain about the song selections... maybe it is because they are trying to even out the difficulty across all instruments?

well i think a majority of the bonus artists (like bang camaro) are either harmonix developers' bands or bands who are friends with the developers

and it's MTV, they can license probably hundreds of artists.. my thought was maybe they are getting alot of the same artists because they are building relationships with them.. like metallica for example is pretty much on board to ride with harmonix no matter what, it's just a great relationship they seem to be building.. just a thought

Being licensed by MTV doesn't mean anything... all they show is reality series and R&B/rap.

Their involvement with Harmonix and Rock Band notwithstanding, my opinion of MTV was best described by Beck -- MTV makes me want to smoke crack. I cannot watch more than five minutes of that station without wanting to strangle someone. Do people actually watch that? If so, I weep for our country's future.

Only thing i watch sometimes that shows on MTV is True Life. Some of the episodes are interesting. Sadly, VH1 is starting to turn into MTV with all the reality shows. They used to be a network i could depend on to see music videos but no more.

somebody on the forums said they read an article the other day where a rep from MTV said their catelogue of artists is 150+ for consideration to put into Rock band

licensing i doubt is an issue.. i mean look at all the artists that have appeared in the Guitar Hero series through out the years.. with the success of these games, i don't think they'd suddenly stop allowing their music to appear in these games

There's a sticky at the top of this forum that explains everything about DLC.
