Please God, kill me now!
What is it with everybody and wireless controllers? Is it going to make that great an experience? I've seen some people complain about lack of Xbox 360 wireless but can come up with no good reason why wireless is better. I challenge everyone who cries about no wireless on Xbox 360 to come in here and post a reasonable and well thought out response to the following question:
Why do you NEED a wireless controller?
The purpose of the controller is to play the game, is it not? The purpose is also to enhance the rock experience by making you feel like you are there playing the song.
Now, how does a wired controller detract from that experience? Let's see....
A wired controller allows me to play the game just fine, no problem there.
A wired controller makes me feel like I'm there because most rock stars use wired hookups, so no problem there.
Where's the problem? Somebody please enlighten me with a logical arguement.
On top of all of this, my question is, of course, why does everybody seem so gungho on having to continually replace batteries and run the risk of having your controller crap-out on you half-way through a game? This makes NO sense people.
I will never understand wireless controllers, I have one, but would much rather use my wired one (My girlfriend REFUSES to uses the wireless one). Hell, I can even remember when I used to have to sit 5 feet from the screen on the floor because the wires were too short to reach any of the couches.

I resent that. I am 28 years old and been gaming since Atari 2600. No one is saying that they NEED wireless components to play the game. Yes the game will still be fun with wired components but will it be as enjoyable as not having the restrictions of a a lead. Wireless components offer the freedom of moving further away from a HDTV for example, Its very hard on the eyes being up so close to a large LCD for hours. I was shackled to my Xbox 360 all through GHII and I couldnt help but be a little disappointed that PS2 gamers were enjoying wireless freedom. The cord hangs across the screen if you have your xbox above or level with your television, which will block observers/other participants view from the side. Which is of particular relevance to Rock Band because local multi-player is a major part of the game. Consider the added annoyance with another guitar playing the bass parts.
It's several small, some may say petty reasons but I am a firm believer that gameplay will be better wireless. If the technology is there to use, then why not use it? It will detract from sales of the Xbox 360 version of the game if it is a fact that they are wired. I know a lot of people on my friends list who were keen on buying GHII who would of been new to the series like I was, but pulled out when they heard news that the 360 X-plorer contoller was wired. Microsoft need to grow up or Sony will start to gain traction again in the console wars.
On the battery issue, I'd like to know which system you own because 360 wireless controllers battery life is very good and if you purchase the relatively inexpensive battery pack docking station it is a simple, convenient way of maintaining a constant supply of power to your controllers. You can simply exchange when the controller alerts you via the flashing quadrants around the guide button.

Are you serious?
You do have a good point about the blockage of the screen, but if you're in the least bit creative you can find a way around that easily.
In terms of the short leads. Well, first of all we have no idea how long the leads are on these controllers because nothing's been seen yet. Second of all, how difficult is it to get an extension? They're available for both the 360 and PS2.
I understand your point about standing too close to an HDTV, but lets face it, everyone acts like there is no way around it when there are plenty of easy solutions.
Why not use the technology if it's there? Well, if it has the ability to detract from the gaming experience (i.e. batteries dieing in the middle of a game), adds nothing of real value, will jack up the price of the item in question (even by a few bucks), has the ability to be interfered with, could cost some consumers money they don't have (i.e. batteries or battery packs and rechargers) then why do it in the first place? Wireless adds nothing to the game and just adds continual hassles. The Cons firmly outweigh the pros here.

I have to admit I have become a bit of a perfectionist when it comes to Home Entertainment and Hi-Fi and having leads strewn across the room for people to trip over/tangle, looks generally untidy and just irks me when there is an alternative. And what about those great times when you come home drunk with a few friends and want to jump around and play like a monkey on acid, Definately less chance of disaster with wireless controllers. Xbox 360 owners should at least get a choice between wired and wireless. To have wireless for one brand of console and not the other is ridiculous. I realise that this is an issue firmly in Microsoft hands and the producers of Rock Band are in no way to blame.

The experience (to me) is absolutely better with a wireless controller. Is it necessary? Certainly not. But in my case, and I'm certain to others, it is simply a more entertaining experience with a wireless controller.
In regards to extensions, the USB specification is rated at somewhere around 15 feet without needing a booster. This is a decent length, but certainly not beyond any reasonable placement with decent home theater setup.
I do agree though that the level of complaining for something that is simply a rumor at this point is silly. Before creating Super Hyper Complaining Thread 20 Ex Plus Alpha, hold off until Harmonix has said one way or another whether the sky is indeed falling.

Why not use the technology if it's there? Well, if it has the ability to detract from the gaming experience (i.e. batteries dieing in the middle of a game)...
I have wired and wireless controllers, and have had people walk between myself and the sreen, tripping and yanking consoles off the wall because of wires far more often than I've had issues with batteries dying. And it's a lot more annoying.
A wired controller is also much easier to put down if you need to turn around or move than a guitar that is strapped to you.
There are a pretty even number of pros and cons to both wired and wireless. Wired may be prefferable for your set-up, but terrible for another's. Having a console on top of the TV, small children or animals running around, and needing to walk away from the TV fairly often to do something else makes wireless a far better choice.
Bah, the whole wireless thing isn't even confirmed yet - there's no reason to get so upset over the issue.

Spin spin spin! I'll remember this post, incase rockband does wake up and have a wireless guitar bundled and you go "sweet! wireless guitars!"
You might want to move onto the year 2007. Wireless controllers are the best thing to happen to gaming, you just need a charging station for the batteries and be smart enough to charge them when they start to get low. No problems.

I don't think anyone one should be wasting time and technology on the wireless/wired problem. We are running out of time to make a new Six Million Dollar Man. Lee Majors is really getting old.

Why do you NEED a wireless controller?
I'd like to play the game from inside my closet. It's the rockingest part of my room, I find.

Game wise I would rather have wired, as there's no need to deal with batteries. It's not that changing batteries is perticularily strenuous, it just gets on my nerves a bit. As long as the cord is nice and long, it doesn't trouble me.
Most other ways about it, I'd rather wireless. I've got a kitten who finds chewing on cords and the like to be simply the most entertaining thing. I have people walking in front of me. I have all the furniture just far enough away from the TV that a GHII controller wire is stretched taut (This isn't really too much of a problem, as I play GHII standing up).
I suppose what I'd like is a wireless controller that accepts the little USB plugin thing that the regular (non-guitar) wireless controller use, but only if the wireless controller only costs a little bit more than a wired one.

Now there's a great reply!!! Kudos to you sir for adding some humour to the discussion
cmg4894, a great reply from you too. I think by the time we're ready to make the six million dollar man Lee Majors will have to be dug up.
Identitytheft, you can remember this conversation all you want as I will never be saying "sweet" to wireless guitars and given the choice between wireless and wired I will always take wired.
I understand that some people really like wireless, but let's face it, it's a luxury, nothing more, nothing less. It isn't required to play the game, and I'm sick of seeing all of these people continually bashing the 360 version ("I'm not getting the 360 edition anymore because it doesn't have wireless!!!111!! even though I have a 360 and no PS3, I'll go out and spend $600 on a PS3 just for my precious wireless") because it supposedly doesn't have wireless (although where these people are getting this information from is well beyond me, harmonix hasn't said a thing one way or another). You don't NEED wireless, you WANT wireless for convenience sake. There is a difference.
We live in a society of convenience and when suddenly something comes along that's more convenient for people the old way of doing things suddenly becomes evil and must be avoided at all costs. Should convenience be the be all and end all? Most certainly not.
Anyways, to sum up this thread wireless is not REQUIRED it's WANTED and some people are just going insane over the issue. I say just stop complaining about the whole thing and wait for official announcements. Even after then, there's no use complaining, it's all been said already

If i may....
The wireless option not being included in the rock band bundle, sucks.
1st there are only three usb ports on the 360 so playing with your friends right away is impossible without spending more coin. Stay with me here...... Clearly everyone that is going to purchase rockband already has GH 2 for there 360. Assuming that the controller for gh2 is compatible with rockband, and a wirless controller came with rockband you can play with three other friends right off the bat without spending more money.
In any case if i read everything correctly there not including wireless in the bundle, but it will be available as an extra controller....Am i correct there.
Wired, or wireless really doesnt matter for me i like both. But in a bundle for a system that has only 3 usb ports??? Come on.
Now ofcourse if one of the other perifials are wireless in the bundle, well that will squash all of my concerns.:D

Okay, this has been addressed many times before, but maybe you haven't noticed it on the boards.
1) There are 3 USB ports on the 360, as you noted. This would allow for wired Drums, and 2 guitars
Oh noez! where's the mic go?!!!111!!!!11
The mic plugs into the controller. Every 360 owner should have a wireless controller as one comes with the system. So there you go, 4 instruments in 3 ports. Simple as that

So I get to hold the controller in one hand and the mic in the other as I sing?

This fact has already been confirmed by HMX, it's not my thinking. So, it's up to them to come up with a solution.
