Definitely.
In fact, I train in MMA (Shaolin Kung Fu striking mixed with Gracie jiu-jitsu ground). I'm looking forward to the Couture/Gonzaga fight coming up. I love Randy, but the way Gonzaga man-handled Cro Cop has got me worried. Hopefully Randy can ground him early. I don't think he stands a chance against Gonzaga standing up.
I'm also a big Pride fan. Should be interesting if they ever get Fedor and Alexander over the states to take on the UFC heavyweights.

how long youve been training mma? where do you train at?

I started my training in kung fu about 4+ years ago. Recently, my sifu decided to branch out a bit and learn some Gracie jiu-jitsu from a guy named Victor Galdon (who trains with Cesar Gracie and corners for Nick Diaz). My sifu basically decided to teach us everything he learns, and an MMA school was born. It's a very "garage" school... quite literally. It's been a great time training, even if the cauliflower ear might finally be settling in. (Was hoping to avoid that one...)
And there's no question in my mind that Fedor would pretty much destroy any living human being in a fight. That dude is frickin' unreal. I can't think of anyone else that has been so dominant in their sport as he has been in MMA. Even the fights that went to decision were no-brainers. It amazes me to no end how calm he is in the ring. He said once in an interview that he's so relaxed because in his mind he's already won the fight. Actually FIGHTING the fight is more of a formality, seeing as how he's already beaten the guy. I mean... damn. That's just crazy.
Ya' gotta' give props to Alexander, too. By all accounts, he's the only person that can consistently tie up Fedor. Apparently there's a third brother who's just as good, but is still too young to fight professionally. Can you imagine if someone tried to mess with that family????
Gonzaga looks to be a darn good striker. If he can keep Randy on his feet, it'll be a pretty quick fight. Couture's got a pretty good chin, but not good enough to hold off this guy. But on the ground? I'd give the edge to Couture any day of the week. That dude can ground and pound.

Yup but I perfer the old school no weight class tourny format over what it is now. I still remember that like 5'2 170lbs Chinese dude knocking out that like 6'8 390lbs Samoan dude. Sure the sizes are off and might not have been Chinese and Samoan but if you've seen it you'd know what I'm talking about.

i started watching UFC since 05 and from reading your post i could tell youve been watching since mid or late 90's. the only person i could think of right now that could take on the hw division is kimbo slice. he quit that fisty cuffs thing and is now traning MMA with bas rutten. he fought against ray mercer in cffc and beat him with a guillotine. and let me tell you he is now better than he did in those videos. the thing that i notice is that he finally has conditioning. from watching that fight i think he will be dominate just for now. at first iam thinking of bjj but i want to go muay thai. which is better? after learning little bjj from a friend it feels more like wrestling. what do you think?

I missed most of the late 90's stuff. I used to rent them when they came to video because I was too young to go to a bar to watch and didn't have a satilte dish. They stopped carrying them after UFC Japan.
Think Pride is in limbo. They did have an open weight class tourny. Gracie/Saku from the 2000 GP is awesome,90 ****in minutes.
Found what I was talking about before,it was the first ever UFC fight:

or maybe it was 27 seconds into this one (though someone put a linkin park song over it  ) :

at first iam thinking of bjj but i want to go muay thai. which is better? after learning little bjj from a friend it feels more like wrestling. what do you think?
Depends on what you are looking for out of training. Are you looking for exercise and to get in shape? Are you looking for skills you can use to defend yourself and loved ones if someone attacked you? Are you looking to actually get into MMA and competitively fight?
There are hundreds of questions people should think about before choosing a martial art to practice.
Here are my thoughts on BJJ versus MT.
Essentially, BJJ is a competitive form of wrestling. The main difference is the outcome: tap versus pin. Although theoretically useful in the "real world", BJJ is mainly thought of as a competition martial art, mainly because it pretty much assumes you go to the ground. There are some standing techniques, but they are very advanced and not very practical if someone is coming out swinging at your head. So, basically, you need the fight to go to the ground. This can be difficult if you are... say... in a bar or alley. Or even if you somehow get mixed up with a group of people instead of one. Rear naked choking someone 'til they pass out is great, but applying it while two of the dude's buddies are bearing down on you would be.... interesting.
However, if you are looking for pure exercise and a means to get in shape, BJJ is second to none. I can't tell you how many times people have puked out of dehydration/exhaustion after rolling for 5-6 minutes their first night. I can currently roll at a good pace for 30 minutes or so, but it still kills me.
Muay Thai is another martial art alltogether. First and foremost, make sure you are actually learning MT, not the American kickboxing crap. There are easy ways to spot the differences, but trust me... you'll know. MT is a true martial art -- meaning, it was designed as a means of self defense first, and it eventually became a competitive sport. So what you learn is A) deadly and B) real world applicable. You will break bones while training... you will walk home after every class with a fresh set of bruises ranging the colors of the rainbow... and if taught in the traditional manner, you will hate your instructor from time to time. But you will also learn a skill that could save your life someday. Hopefully that day never comes, but if it does, you can have some confidence that you would be able to handle the situation.
So really, it depends on what you're looking for. For me, personally, I wanted a means to defend myself. That's why I went into Shaolin Kung Fu. The reason you don't see more Shaolin practitioners in MMA? Mainly because the attacks are too vicious to really be used effectively in the ring (eye gouges, limb breaks, etc.).
But if you are looking to fight competitively, or even if you just want to learn the stuff you see in the MMA bouts, definitely look into BJJ or MT. Or, even better, find a true MMA school. Learn both.
I know this is probably the longest post ever written, but I hope it helps some.

No problem.
If you enjoyed wrestling, you'll probably love BJJ. Just be prepared to "unlearn" all that you learned from wrestling. Some stuff like sprawling and tosses will come in handy, but most wrestling moves either don't work or actually leave you completely open for a BJJ submission.

wow, I was suprised to see an MMA thread here. awesome. There has been a UFC draught for a bit now. Can't wait for it to come back later this month. Tons of great fights after that too.
