The Cure is enough reason to like it! But the rest is nice too actually! :) (Especially Radionhead's Paranoid Android)

It's a good list, but I think that it is lacking in balance and diversity. I wouldn't have a problem in seeing most of the songs in RB. I just think that there needs to be a good balance of Classic, 80's, Metal, punk, pop, and etc Rock in ROck band.
Like I have said before, Rock Band will be customizable for the user through DLC. I think so many people forget that most of the fun in this game is the DLC.

I thought it was great except for Fleetwood Mac. Some bands could use different songs though.

Well seeing as how I ripped all of these songs from Rolling Stone's top 500 rock songs of all time, I would say that it's pretty accurate of what rock songs people like.
That and almost all of the announced songs are also on that same list.

good stuff. rolling stone can still put together a great list of rock songs. not much else...

good songs>popular songs. rolling stone goes for popular songs. not too bad, but there are so many better bands that have never hit uber mainstream.

oh without ?, i completely agree. rolling stone has probably never heard of half the bands you and i and most other people on this forum listen to.

Those seem to be some pretty accurate assumptions. If not the songs, the at least the majority of those bands will show up. It's hard not to like that list. Also I love the poll choices...

Like what? Are you guys talking about metal stuff, or is there good classic rock stuff I've never heard?
FatWilma
08-15-2007, 05:44 AM
i wasn't specifically talking about metal, but what i said goes for the metal heads and myself. rolling stone just isn't in the know anymore.
as far as classic rock u've never heard, idk what to tell you. if u're into classic rock, u probably know and have heard most everything you would wana hear. for modern rock, there are an endless amount of great bands out there...

They thought Bohemian Rhapsody was a good song. I have to disagree with that choice for rock band. Substitute any other Queen song, I'd have to go with Another One Bites the Dust.

Anyone who knows Rock music can't be upset with this list. This is the definitive"Rock" list! Only a couple good songs? There are 41 songs that I assure you are both extremely fun to play, and appealing to a wide variety of people.
If you want more modern stuff you'll have to wait for DLC.

Having to pick one Zeppelin song was torturous. And what do you care? You think they're over hyped.

I like it, i don't see how the "mass appeal" ties in, that would mean it has LOTS of variety.
But still, i dig a lot of the songs. Good stuff.

If you want more modern stuff you'll have to wait for DLC. While most of the songs are good, it's hardly a definitive rock list. It's not even a definitive classic rock list, which is what your list focuses on.

See i just can't get past where you think this whole list will apply to a "wide variety" of people. I can guarantee not everyone likes the same stuff you do that "defines" rock.
But again I like it, and hope many of the songs end up in the game.

Led Zeppelin - Immigrant Song*
NO.
It has four seconds of guitar repeated over and over with no solo, and the bass and drums are just as repetitive. Like most of your songs, it's a great song but it wouldn't fit well on Rock Band.
On the other hand, if you can watch/listen to this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FiL1sjGIcew) and not want it in Rock Band, you might be terminally ******ed.
P.S. The Bob Dylan song should be Subterranean Homesick Blues; accept no substitutes.

haha liked the way u put "i know absolutely nothing about music"...anyway, i like a lot of the songs on ur list, classic 70s-80s music that we've all heard, but once again, like in most unbalanced setlists on these boards, u have hardly any new stuff...i mean, u included maybe one song that came out after the year 1998, weezer for god's sake...and beck's loser just wouldn't work, one looping guitar, same drum beat, and lyrics most non-beck fans would dispise (don't get me wrong, i love beck)...also throw some muse in there and your good, they own radiohead a.k.a. the most overrated band ever next to nirvana

First, let me say. Picking one Led Zeppelin song is too hard for me. Besides, they're realistically not going to be in the game.
Second, This list really isn't my list to begin with. I picked a majority of songs that I liked from Rolling Stone's top 500 rock songs of all time. If you want my list, I made one, and it's totally NOT going to happen. Look at that one.
Third, I stand by the FACT that this list is the definitive ROCK list because it includes the greatest rock songs that define the genre. Hence, "definitive". Sure there are a lot of songs out there that people would like to have in the game, but as we all know, there are only 40 song slots for the final game disc. The rest will simply have to wait for alternative delivery methods.. (DLC or expansion packs)
newwaytodie
08-20-2007, 08:33 AM
Also, anyone who votes no really DOES NOT know rock music. That's the reason for the poll subtitles. Period. You don't know rock music if you haven't heard those songs...
If you don't appreciate what they are, you don't appreciate rock music. Simple as that.
Everyone here should know that I'm a huge metalhead. That notwithstanding, I really like all of these songs on this list. I'd love to see some real heavy metal on Rock Band, but lets be realisitic... We're going to have to wait for DLC.

Wow, I remember people saying that about Metallica two months ago.
And picking a Led Zeppelin song with a guitar solo isn't hard, but you managed to somehow screw that up. Good going.

A definitive ROCK list would have Rock songs that both fit the game AND are popular. You decided to go just for popular, and at least half the songs on the list would suck in Rock Band.
Anyone who knows Rock music can't be upset with this list. This is the definitive"Rock" list! Only a couple good songs? There are 41 songs that I assure you are both extremely fun to play, and appealing to a wide variety of people.
On the contrary. Anybody who knows real rock will be disappointed with this list because it goes for the radio-friendly songs over quality.

so i'm assuming you know wut real rock is??
WingsOfSteel
08-20-2007, 08:47 AM
I know that songs where the guitar repeats four seconds worth of music for the vast majority of two minutes would suck in Rock Band.
That puts me at least a step or two ahead of newwaytodie.
the_polite_force

that doesn't answer my question about REAL rock though

appealing to a wide variety of people? if this is "mass appeal", why would i be complaining that your list sucks?
just because they were in a list of the most POPULAR(notice i left out good, popular and good don't always go together) songs of all time doesn't mean they're the best songs you could have in this game.

Replace "Sharp Dressed Man" with either "Cheap Sunglasses", "Just Got Paid" or "La Grange"(despite it being in GH III) and add CCR's "Suzy Q."

if this is "mass appeal", why would i be complaining that your list sucks?
Because your musical tastes are on the "fringe". The same can be said for me, but I do enjoy all the songs on this list as well as more obscure genres/bands.
Just because it doesn't have a song by The Human Abstract doesn't make it "suck", it just makes it "more accessible". Compromise doesn't always have to be a bad thing, usualy it does, but not that much in this case. We always have DLC to look foward to.

When half of the songs are on a difficulty level best described as "First Tier," it sucks.
They're good songs, and it would be a great album, but it would suck as a Rock Band setlist. How can you not understand this?
newwaytodie
08-21-2007, 07:33 AM
I do understand. So maybe a different song from each artist?
xenopherus
08-21-2007, 11:23 AM
It's a pretty good list. But it does need more Queen! I'd be very happy with the game if all those songs were in it.
