Do you think we would maybe get to see a RockBand game or any other of this type, with characters faces and body fetures say around the uncanny valley range in the near future?? or would that be to weird??
What are your thoughts?

My immediate thought is.....
What?
What are you trying to say in your post? You are not getting your idea across at all here, please rephrase and think "is this getting my point across effectively" before posting

Oh, it's easy to hit the uncanny valley right now, but developers don't for obvious reasons. As far as when we pass the valley, give it 10 years, and we might be close.

Ok, I get that reference. But I still don't understand the OP.
LZ, are you asking if they are going to use robots to play Rock Band or something? lol I'm completely lost.
If you mean using that technology in order to create characters within the game, then no it's probably not gonna happen. It's probably too expensive to get that technology to use.

I think the question is: when, if at all, will video games, specifically rhythm games, reach that level of technology?

I see what you're saying, but at that point, where is the human playing the game? Wouldn't you be watching a robot play a video game? I guess that could happen in the future.
Just like these robot butlers and flying cars I've been hearing about for 20 years :D
EDIT: No wait, more than 20 years. The Jetsons took place in 1999 lol

It's not robots playing the game, it's the in-game avatars looking ultra-realistic.

That's what I thought the first time around. But as I said in the other post, it's probably too expensive to get that kind of technology. And as you said, maybe 10 years from now. But not in RB2 or anything.

It's funny, because your name is Marty Mcfly, and you're posting in a topic about the future.

I think we should stay where we are in regards to the uncanny valley. If we surpass the uncanny valley, it would be to easy to cause emotional attachment and distress in gamers. It is this reason as to why we won't see it. It would also make it to easy for video games to become extremely regulated by the govt. Video games are already the most restricted form of media on the market as far as regulations, anyway. Making any game, even a Rock Band like game, beyond the uncanny valley would open up a can of worms in some way, shape, or form.

I don't know about other nations, but in the U.S. ESRB ratings are completely voluntary - a game doesn't need one at all to be published. Companies adhere to ESRB ratings because retailing outfits (Wal-Mart, Toys R Us, etc.) won't shelve unrated or AO rated games. As far as these regulations go though, I think it all comes down to a game's content is as to how people would react (think Nintendogs vs. Doom).
Now I have a mental image of cute little puppies with headbands armed with masive guns fighting demons in the dark...

That is why it is the most regulated. Not by govt. but by retailers. Does WalMart keep the Saw movies off their shelf? No. Do they keep Manhunt 2 from being published, yes. Would they keep Rock Band off shelves if you had a "bite the head off of a bat" option? Yes.

when Harmonix or whoever get to the point where they cant make a better game they will just tell everyone to buy real equipment and actually play the music in an actual band. That's the most futuristic "Rock Band" i see right now.

Ah yes, but would you rather have:
A voluntary system, controlled by the industry itself, where even AO games can be distributed through specialty retailers and online.
A government regulated system where development and sale of games is made illegal based on what a government organization decides.

All I would want is fairness in the market. Unfortunately for video games, it is still seen as a kids demographic. That means everything that comes out is perceived as being aimed at children. That is what the big GTA mess was all about. Until video games are seen as 100% multidemographic, it is at a disadvantage....
But to stay with the topic and make my post immune to the ban-hammer, I think that the "play with your real instruments" is an awesome idea! It would rock to have your actual performance graded.
