View Full Version : The Official "GET OVER IT" Thread

Coping with a deficiency in your Rock Band experience - very often the result of an absurdly detailed demand specific to your case and your case alone, or perhaps an organization or "cult" with similar zeitgeists - can be a painful process. We find it quite helpful during that stressful and emotional time to remember the Kübler-Ross model, colloquially known as the "Five Stages of Grief":

1) DENIAL - The frequent checking and rechecking of gain levels at three minutes and thirty seconds into a certain song's bass guitar track is completely normal at this dramatic stage. Behaviors such as this are in no way indicative of mental instability. They are simply part of the healing process.

2) ANGER - Family and loved ones, keep in mind that the Internet is often a platform for vituperation. This is engendered in a fashion similar to John Gabriel's "Greater Internet F$*#wad Theory." (http://www.penny-arcade.com/comic/2004/03/19) However, any forum topics or responses created by the grieving concerning censorship, audio modification and content choices are NOT personal attacks. They are merely misdirected pains of the heart.

3) BARGAINING - Official Harmonix policy forbids all employees from accepting bribes in any form, be it U.S. currency or Microsoft Points or illicit substances or sexual favors. Attempting to exact one's will in this manner is severely frowned upon. That having been said, the people of Harmonix are still sympathetic to the grieving process and are perfectly willing to hear an alternately raging and sobbing proposition, if only to laugh/reject it/call security, thereby pushing the grieving into the next stage.

4) DEPRESSION - Several psycho-pharmaceuticals are available to the grieving during this period, including - but not limited to - Zoloft, Prozac, Lexapro, Wellbutrin, Paxil, Celexa and Effexor. If traditional prescriptions do not alleviate the pressures of the intense and swirling void of pure, black velvet sadness and hate, then perhaps Viva Piñata (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Viva_Pinata) would better assist.

5) ACCEPTANCE - A new day dawns. All is forgiven, swept away. The journey has been long and arduous, but the travel worthwhile. Welcome to happiness!

Helpful phrases to hear during the transitional process:

"Cry me a river."
"Build a bridge and get over it."
"Deal with it."
"Move along. Nothing to see here."
"Get used to it."

And finally:

"Don't get your panties in a twist."

{NOTE: While username Chris_Gonzalez's "Five Stages" offering (http://loadingreadyrun.com/videos/view/237/the_stages) was indeed enlightening, we feel it might convey the wrong message. Please remember that Rock Band will most likely exacerbate one's erectile dysfunction, contrary to popular belief.}

But whatever will PS3 players do? Folklore is it's most colorful game but that's not gonna help with depression.

At this time, we feel that owners of the Playstation 3 video game console, based on current U.S. market share, quality of titles and non-"Wii-ness," are simply depressed beyond clinical help and cannot be cured even by the most unorthodox methods.

The prevailing professional opinion is that Viva Piñata is a quality software product and, perhaps more importantly, a highly effective antidepressant. Also, it portrays the oft-maligned, hyperviolent, gangland-esque "piñata culture" in a positive, child-friendly light.

If everyone just "got over it" and realized Harmonix isn't here to give them exactly what they want, there would be hardly any threads on this message board.

Nice thread.

I think we can all agree that when that random 13 yr old who only listens to Metallica and Chili Peppers starts complaining how all the music HMX adds as DLC sucks, we can all just say GET OVER IT! This of course being the best thing we can do, assisting them to the second stage of their grief process.

We have taken the liberty of adding a poll, purely for data-gathering purposes, designed to analyze the helpfulness/effectiveness of our approach to the grief issue.

For further details on a similar procedure, please refer to this historical document. (http://www.penny-arcade.com/comic/2005/05/25)

KampfVerein

Thus far, the poll data is unfortunately inconclusive. We might have to rely on our previously conceived notion if the results do not skew in our favor.

We recommend, for those upset over the recently released Grateful Dead DLC, that copious amounts of DMT or THC be introduced into the body - if only for a proper reappraisal of the tracks' quality.

KampfVerein
03-06-2008, 08:54 PM
We feel that the Grateful Dead are still remarkably relevant to this country's "rockscape" and to modern music in general.

Accordingly, we also feel that DLC by said Dead is positively relevant to Rock Band's status as a quality rhythm title.

We are aware that some people (surely a subspecies of humanity capable of only the most savage, barbaric and sadomasochistic activities) actually enjoy the music of Paramore, thus we feel very little disappointment - after all, someone's needs are being satisfied and how - and once again reinforce the overarching theme of this therapeutic thread.

Ps3 has Loco Roco, which is a form of visual a narcotic, visual and auditory anti-depressant. It is also believed to taste like candy.

I am most certainly using this at my next Rock Band party.

I'm sure my vocalist will kick me in the face, but the pain will be worth the hilarity that will ensue from the rest of the band.

Contrary to an alarmingly vocal minority, piano/organ solos are a welcome addition to Rock Band note charts, regardless if the instrument is not present in virtual or peripheral form. They increase the amount of playtime and provide a new sort of challenge. Also, it is a sly and knowing subversion of the game's usual immersion factor.
