Im really tired of people praising the GH3 soundtrack so much and hating on the Rock Band song list. First of all we dont even know one half of the songs, and second of all, most of these songs are amazing.
"(Don't Fear) The Reaper" Blue Φyster Cult
"Enter Sandman" Metallica
"Go with the Flow" Queens of the Stone Age
"In Bloom" Nirvana
"Learn To Fly" Foo Fighters
"Main Offender" The Hives
"Mississippi Queen" Mountain
"Paranoid" Black Sabbath
"Reptilia" The Strokes
"Rockaway Beach" The Ramones
"Say It Ain't So" Weezer
"Suffragette City" David Bowie
"Tom Sawyer" Rush
"Vasoline" Stone Temple Pilots
"Wanted Dead or Alive" Bon Jovi
"Won't Get Fooled Again" The Who
None of these songs are on a level of terribleness like "I Love Rock & Roll" or "Miss Murder".
Wont Get Fooled Again? Refreakindiculously awesome.
In fact, I think alot of these songs are amazing like WGFA, Reptillia, Tom Sawyer, Vasoline, Say it Aint So, Dont Fear the Reaper, and In Bloom. All of those are some of my all time favorites. The rest sure arent that bad either.
So what are your thoughts on the soundtrack so far?

The songs I knew are simply phenomenal, and the ones I didn't I simply youtubed and listened to them. Let me just say this: If the rest of the tracklist is like this, RB will absolutely BLOW GH right out of the freakin water.
Won't Get Fooled Again? I hope it's the full 8 1/2 minute version. That would seriously rule.
Tom Sawyer? Absolutely sick. I am so looking forward to playing this on the drums (as with the rest of the songs >.<)

These are the ones in the game that I already knew of; therefor I like them.

Won't Get Fooled Again was number one on my wish list. And Who's Next is pretty much the best possible album for this game. The people picking these songs know what they are doing.

I could do without The Hives, Nirvana, Foo Fighters, Mountain and Stone Temple Pilots.... but what are ya gonna do... can't please everyone.
I still think the overall setlist is focusing on guitar, rather than equalizing the overall experience.

well personally right now song wise. I think harmonix is getting their asses handed to them. the songlist for guitar hero 3 is great. BUT rock band will outsell them because nothing can beat the expierience of being in a band.
the songs i like in rock band:
"(Don't Fear) The Reaper" Blue Φyster Cult
"Enter Sandman" Metallica
"In Bloom" Nirvana
"Paranoid" Black Sabbath
"Rockaway Beach" The Ramones
"Tom Sawyer" Rush
"Wanted Dead or Alive" Bon Jovi
songs i like in GH3:
"Cult of Personality" Living Colour
"The Metal" Tenacious D
"The Number of the Beast" Iron Maiden
"One" Metallica
"Paint It Black" The Rolling Stones
"Paranoid" Black Sabbath
"Raining Blood" Slayer
"Rock and Roll All Nite" Kiss
"Rock You Like a Hurricane" Scorpions
"School's Out" Alice Cooper
"Suck My Kiss" Red Hot Chili Peppers[
"Welcome to the Jungle" Guns N' Roses
but i still think rock band will be better

I think it's great and like it better than GH 3 and it's gonna get even better. No serious complaints or any song that I'd even consider bad. Also it's great I'll actually get to play all the songs no matter what.

For me Rock Band only has a couple tracks that have me saying OMG, for GH3 it's more than half of the setlist.

I think the set list on RB is ok at best. There are some songs that I like, I've been wanting to play Don't Fear The Reaper and Enter Sandman for the longest time, but as a whole I think so far the set list is too bland. They need more metal and 80's songs to pep things up a bit.

It's decent I guess. There are only 6 songs I like, but 4 of those I love. The rest are meh, besides 3 that suck. For anyone that's curious:
Songs I love:
"Go with the Flow" ? Queens of the Stone Age
"In Bloom" ? Nirvana
"Won't Get Fooled Again" ? The Who
"Paranoid" ? Black Sabbath
Like:
"Rockaway Beach" ? The Ramones
"Suffragette City" ? David Bowie
Meh:
"(Don't Fear) The Reaper" ? Blue Φyster Cult
"Mississippi Queen" ? Mountain
"Reptilia" ? The Strokes
"Say It Ain't So" ? Weezer
"Tom Sawyer" ? Rush
"Vasoline" ? Stone Temple Pilots
"Wanted Dead or Alive" ? Bon Jovi
Suck:
"Main Offender" ? The Hives
"Enter Sandman" ? Metallica
"Learn To Fly" ? Foo Fighters
Hopefully we'll get some new songs announced at PAX that will be awesome as the first 4 songs.

As mentioned we haven't even seen half of the track list for RB and what they have shown so far i like a lot and even when we do see the full list and if it turns out not as good as the one on GH3 It still wouldn't bother me that much for one reason.. the DLC, knowing that there will be weekly downloads which could include the tracks that GH3 is providing and full albums not to mention being a Metallica fan and a big selection of their tracks maybe even albums are coming also, for me in the long run it will out do anything that the disc Track list can provide.. that's how i see it anyway :) .

Considering that's less than half the list lookin' good for me; only ones i'd drop are the hives, strokes , and nirvana....no complaints though

I agree with you sushi. To be honest with my taste in songs, I would say Rock Band and GH are tied, I might even be happier with Rock Bands picks, and GH III has released almost twice the amount of songs.
Songs I really like from Rock Band:
"Go with the Flow" ? Queens of the Stone Age
"In Bloom" ? Nirvana
"Learn To Fly" ? Foo Fighters
"Main Offender" ? The Hives
"Mississippi Queen" ? Mountain
"Reptilia" ? The Strokes
"Say It Ain't So" ? Weezer
"Suffragette City" ? David Bowie
"Tom Sawyer" ? Rush
"Won't Get Fooled Again" ? The Who
I really like all the songs 16/16 but I had to narrow it down a bit, to the songs I'm really looking forward to playing a lot.
Songs I really like from Guitar Hero III:
"Cherub Rock" - Smashing Pumpkins
"Even Flow" - Pearl Jam
"Knights of Cydonia" - Muse
"The Metal" - Tenacious D
"My Name Is Jonas" - Weezer
"Paint It, Black" - The Rolling Stones
"Suck my Kiss" - Red Hot Chili Peppers
"Welcome to the Jungle" - Guns N' Roses
"3's and 7's" - Queens of the Stone Age
"Barracuda" - Heart
The difference here is that these are the songs I'm looking forward to, but I don't really like the other ones that much.
So basically I like all the songs from Rock Band, and Im super excited for 10 of them, and I like 10 songs from Guitar Hero III. Although I usually enjoy almost all the songs once I start playing them. I don't think GH III's list is very good in comparison with Rock Band's.

The GH3 soundtrack is tight, but the rock band set is more my type.
So unless rok band has en epic flop I know i'll end up liking that one better.

GHIII has some awesome songs, I can't wait until it comes out.
RB has some cool songs too, but nothing that's telling me I need this game yet. Then again, RB has a tougher job of convincing me because I don't need to get a new console for GHIII.

I think there are two factors that people use to assess the playlist.
One factor is the consistent quality of the songs, and Harmonix does very well here. The only song I really dislike is "Learn To Fly." I'm not super crazy about "Vasoline," and unfortunately "Paranoid" suffers in comparison to "War Pigs" or "Iron Man." The other songs hold up very well over repeated listenings, and as always the joy is in discovering songs that I wasn't familiar with. Harmonix does a great job of picking songs that flesh out key moments in rock and roll history.
The other factor is the number of OH, NO, YOU DI-IN'T songs. Right now, Rock Band has one (Won't Get Fooled Again), and GH3 has several (One, Paint It Black, and Welcome to the Jungle). I have confidence that Rock Band will fare better in this category as we get more song announcements in the coming months.

I think GH3's setlist is a little better, but Rock Band will most likely have more immersive gameplay, so that evens it out a bit.

I think you'd have people disagreeing with you strongly on both the RB side and the GH side with that comment. :) It's so subjective. You're right that Harmonix has done a great job up to this point picking songs (I like a lot of the bonus songs in the first GH and definitely never heard of them before... I haven't gotten to far in GHII bonus songs yet).

In my very humble opinion, I have to say good, but not great at this point.
However, I am confident that it will get better as more songs are released, and with their DLC promises I am hopeful that many of my favorites will ultimately be available.

The number of songs on GH3 that have made me do double-takes and scream OMFG outnumber Rock Band, but overall I prefer the soundtrack for RB. GH3 has too many songs I would rather clean out nursing home bedpans than listen to. So far, no such songs in RB.
So, song by song comparison favors GH3 in my book. But overall soundtrack definitely favors Rock Band.

I think the setlist is great. Me and my flatmates all play GH (There are 5 of us) and we all have different music tastes. I can see us swapping instruments quite a bit, I can see one of my flatmates love belting out the lyrics to Suffragette City where I would prefer rocking out to Enter Sandman. Some of the tracks don't appeal to me, but when you're rocking out as a group, there will be something to suit everyone.

Honestly..... NOT one of those announced songs for RB has me excited. Not one. Some I actually Loathe. Some are OK.. But shouldn't we get better than OK. I'm still betting on HMX holding back the real goodies till later. Like when the game is about to roll out. And RO/Act has already pretty much shot their whole wad.

I think the big difference for me right now is that I look at Rock Band's list and find myself saying "Wow, these songs kick ass, and are going to be a blast to play!", whereas when I look at Guitar Hero 3 I find myself saying "Wow, these songs kick ass, and they'll probably kick my ass!"
Not saying Rock Band doesn't have hard songs and Guitar Hero 3 doesn't have fun songs, but it's how I view the lists. I'm a big fan of both of them, but Rock Band caters more towards my musical tastes, so as of right now I prefer the Rock Band list.
Personally?
Rock Band
Look Forward To: (Don't Fear) The Reaper, In Bloom, Learn To Fly, Mississippi Queen, Paranoid, Reptilia, Say It Ain't So, Suffragette City, Tom Sawyer, Wanted Dead or Alive, Won't Get Fooled Again, Vasoline
Meh: Enter Sandman, Go With The Flow, Rockaway Beach
Not Interested: Main Offender (I got /really/ into The Hives a few months before they got popular N.A. radio play and at this point I'm just burnt out on this song.)
Guitar Hero 3
Look Forward To: Barracuda, Cult of Personality, Knights of Cydonia, La Grange, Lay Down, My Name Is Jonas, Number Of The Beast, Paint It, Black, Paranoid, Reptilia, Sabotage, School's Out, Slow Ride
Meh: 3's & 7's, Cherub Rock, Cities on Flame With Rock and Roll, Go That Far (the guitar part sounds interesting, but I dislike the song overall), The Metal, One (I look forward to it on Hard, not so much on Expert because I'm bad), Raining Blood, Rock and Roll All Nite, Rock You Like A Hurricane, She Bangs The Drums, Suck My Kiss, Welcome To The Jungle (would have enjoyed vocals/drums more than guitar I think)
Not Interested: Even Flow, Miss Murder, She Builds Quick Machines, Talk Dirty To Me, Through The Fire And The Flames (I don't like songs I have no hope of clearing -- although I loved /listening/ to Jordan)

i still think RB needs some MUSE...guitar, drums, bass, singing (lol) would all be insane...
i also think RB needs some faster songs, and preferably more late 80s and modern stuff, like velvet revolver, guns n roses (as u can see i love slash's music), maybe some rhcp, incubus, AUDIOSLAVE, a7x, welcome home by coheed and cambria (not a fan but love this song), and definately, definately some more WOLFMOTHER...imagine joker and the thief...that would be sick

"Suck My Kiss" ? Red Hot Chili Peppers
Wait, how are they going to do that? References to sex, and the 'f' word a couple times. Hell, a lot of people might even see 'Suck My Kiss' as an offensive lyric.

So far I Like the GH3 list more then RB. Even when they both had roughly the same number of songs there was just more songs I already owned.
BUT
Everyone I know will like the RB track list more so those songs are going to see waaaaay more play time.
I like the patterns I see from both so far. Guitar Hero is pushing a lot of guitar heavy stuff and songs that wouldn't really work in RB. Rock Band seems to be concentrating on accessibility.

I haven't read this whole thread so if this is repeated sorry.
Both list for the most part look great. I'm looking forward to playing both but the GHIII list looks like a lot more filler. Now since RB's list is smaller and when they wanted to start releasing songs they released what they felt were their strongest. I'm just looking forward to RB songs more. I'm not a huge metal fan, I like faster chord changes instead of lighting speed single note.

Metal effing sucks...sorry to P.O. about 60% of the people on this website, but the only good ",metal song on the setlist is Enter Sandman...and it's really not metal..slayer is just a bunch of r-tards screaming into a microphone. please..more classic rock and RUSH! GH's has better songs, but also some songs I really hate. It also has announced more than twice the songs RB has. I don't hate any of the songs on Rock Band's setlist, and I think HMX is holding back the big guns until it's closer to release. And that's not even mentioning DLC.

You're wrong!! Black Sabbath are considered by many as the first metal band so you don't really know anything about metal do u. If u want some metal bands to listen to then try these:
Metallica
Megadeth
Iron Maiden
Anthrax
As for the topic, GH's setlist is way ahead for me with songs like Number of the Beast, One, Paint it Black, Welcome to the Jungle, Raining Blood, The Metal.
I know RB's isn't finished yet but all I like up to now is Enter Sandman and Paranoid. They are the two which stand out for me.

I think I read somewhere that extremely musically inclined children and people with above averge IQ's enjoy the complexity of the riffs in a lot of metal tracks. Take Yngwie Malsteem for example. Terrible songs when he sings, but good lord can he shred. If I can find the article, I'll post a link.
I like the set list so far, but I won't be stoked until I see more. I would go crazy if the had The Pot by Tool in there. Maybe make a Slipknot song an unlockable. Any song where you have to scream to duration shouldn't be part of the main campaign, anyway.

I agree we do need some more metal. *cough* Iron Maiden *cough*
However, the game is definitely lacking in 80s tunes. That's not really subjective either, this is going off the list on the site and the new songs. Maybe they're just waiting for the GH80s buzz to die down a bit. Might be some duplicate songs. I'd love to see some cheesy, fun 80s songs that would be a blast to play in RB, but would not really make it for GH.

Actually I'm not wrong, the members of Black Sabbath once publicly stated that they didn't consider themselves a "Metal" band and they didn't want to be seen that way, but Black Sabbath has always been a band that strongly believes in it's fans and their opinions.
As for your suggestions...I'd appreciate some specific song recommendations...I really liked Hangar 18 and I'd agree that it is heavy metal...I also like The Trooper and Enter Sandman...haven't heard anything from "Anthrax".

I'm probably more of a classic rock guy myself, but I do also agree that there needs to be more metal.. Even if I wouldn't neccessarily listen to it at home, it's damn fun to play.
Megadeth is awesome though. Gimme one of their albums for DLC.
Maybe "no double bass" is playing into how they're choosing songs?

I can't say I'm blown away by RB's setlist so far. I am loving the CONCEPT of Rock Band but not the MUSIC as of yet - this could change thanks to the marvel that is DLC.
I really won't be satisfied until Dire Straits makes an appearance - Money For Nothing, or Sultans of Swing would make me much more of a fan of the setlist.
I'll still buy it on Day One though.....

White Zombie/ Rob Zombie
..and Sabbath is the grandaddy of all metal whether they like it or not....

I'd be blown away if they put Tommy the Cat in there, even if it wound up being DLC. The bass, the guitar, the drums..hell, even the vocals sound like they'd come out challenging. All those dead notes would be crazy for the bass part. The vocals would definitely be interesting, no doubt there. If it turned out anywhere near as challenging as it is in real life..well, that'd just be peaches.
It's becoming increasingly obvious that I like Primus way too much, but it just feels so damn right.

I'm kinda shocked at the people that don't like it.It's officialy tied with GH3 in song greatness.

I was hoping for some NIN and they went and picked the one and only NIN song I didn't want ugh, I still see it as a good thing though because it opens the door for more Nails and it could be a pretty fun song to play.
Other than that I like the soundtrack quite a bit, Nirvana, Pumpkins, Queens, Stones, Radiohead, etc some of my favorite bands are being represented. \m/
Heres hoping for some Muse, Tool, Manson(anything but the new album), Rob/White Zombie and official confirmation on Nirvana's Nevermind. *crosses fingers*

i agree with you about NIN, i would much rather want something off The Downward Spiral rather than the new ****. also, i think they could've had much better choices for Radiohead and Smashing Pumpkins(good song, but they could've picked something not already on GH3)

Agree with the NIN. 'March Of Pigs' would be killer on drums.

The Perfect Drug needs to be DLC.
